Product Description

From Amazon.com

Frustrated by the exorbitant costs and uneven quality of available wedding accessories, a mother-and-daughter team set out to rectify the situation by designing their own. The result is a lovely book filled with nice ways to add a personal touch to all aspects of a wedding, from the preplanning stages to the ceremony, honeymoon, and long after. Although many ideas are typical wedding-craft items (bridal purse, ringbearer's pillow, keepsake garter, sachets, and the like), the presentation is appealing, with good photos and instructions for 52 step-by-step projects, plus dozens more ideas for simple craft items, from picture frames to scrapbooks to party favors. Most items are relatively inexpensive to make and require only basic sewing or crafting skills. Sidebars offer useful advice on finding a good photographer, getting a passport, caring for fine linens, and much more.

Before things get too hectic, make a pretty accordion file to keep everything organized, and choose meaningful gifts for the wedding party from a list of three dozen suggestions. Rather than expensive, short-lived cut flowers, consider dried topiaries as centerpieces. When it all gets overwhelming, relax with easily concocted, soothing bath and beauty products. To keep the celebration going indefinitely, a section of "happily ever after" projects covers anniversaries and everyday reminders of the wedding (such as a breakfast-in-bed tray adorned with bridal lace and dried bouquet petals). Be sure to leave the book where family and friends will spot it, and perhaps they will surprise you with little extras, like a small hope chest or a bon voyage basket of reception goodies tucked in the getaway car. --Amy Handy

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very original - OK for a few "first ideas", Feb 14 2001
By A Customer
I had read good reviews of this book and wanted to get some ideas for my upcoming wedding. After looking through the entire book, I found only one or two ideas I liked -and I'd already seen them before. I hoped for lots of neat favor ideas - instead, it had the completely unoriginal "almonds in tulle".

This book might be good for people who haven't been to many weddings, or as a first book you look at for ideas. But if you've been to a wedding or two or read any other books or Web sites, you won't find anything original here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!, Oct 19 1999
By A Customer
I recently purchased this book, and was thrilled to see the number of projects that are included. It has an excellent selection of projects that can be realistically completed by even an amateur crafter. I have marked practically the entire book with notes on how I plan to incorporate the various projects into my wedding. I was already planning on doing alot of the things myself, but this book provided some additional insight into the projects I already had planned and then gave me some new ones. An excellent investment for anyone interested in saving money on wedding planning and decorating and willing to put in the time necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars well-balanced, great book, Dec 29 1998
By A Customer
What a great idea - combining upscale but affordable wedding crafts with informative sidebars. My favorites are the party favors and Honeymoon at Home - I plan to use it for my own wedding, then keep it to use for making gifts and brainstorming for ideas for friends' weddings.
