The Brethren
The Brethren
by John Grisham
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars The Brethren, Jun 24 2002
The Brehren is a good book by John Grisham , not one of his best work , but it's good and diferent from the rest.

It's about 3 ex-judges who are now in prison and they extort money from people via ads on a gay magazine. Until they try to extort a presidential candidate.

I say this is diferent from the rest of his work because the main characters of the book are not lawyers or people with principles. The main characters are 3 convicts that extort people so I've never read anything of Grisham where the main characters are bad guys .

I liked it , it's interesting , a good plot with a lot of twists in the story and you never figure what's going to happen next.

A good book , not the best of Girsham , but it's not his worst either . Don't expect a court room drama like "A Time to Kill" or "The Firm" , but I'll just say it's a enjoyable book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Grisham at his worst, Jun 24 2002
I consider a John Grisham fan myself , I love his work , except for this one.

This is the story of a lawyer named Michael Brock who works on a corporate law firm . He was a promising young lawyer and he was on the fastlane to become a partner of the firm , until some homeless guy took him and other lawyers of the firm as hostages.
After that , all his life change totally , first he started helping people in churchs , then he changed everything he had to became a lawyer of the homeless people.

I didn't like this book for many reasons , there isn't a strong plot that keeps you reading ,in fact the book starts interesting but after 4 or 5 chapters it keeps getting worse and worse and it doesn't stop (expect the worst at the end of the book).
It is easy reading , but that doesn't mean it is fun , you can read 20 pages and nothing happens .

Mr. Grisham focused on showing the world of the homeless people, and his political ideas . I think that's what he really wanted but I think he could do that with a better plot.

So , I just have to say I don't recomend this book unless you are a John Grisham fan or you are really interested in the homeless people. This is not a courtroom drama that you would like to read on a Grisham book. So if you want a good Grisham novel , skip this , and look for his great books like 'The Chamber' , 'The Rainmaker' , 'The Brethren' or my personal favorite 'A time to kill'.

3.0 out of 5 stars My first J.A. Jance experience, Jun 24 2002
This is the first book I read from J.A. Jance, so I'm not very familiar with her work , so I'll try to read more of her later.

This book tell us the story of a Joanna Brady, a sheriff from a samll town in Arizona.
It tell us the story of a murder , a missing teenager and the fight for a will , everything happens just a week before her wedding takes place.

This is an ok book , it has an interesting begining with a good plot , and it is really interesting to read .

It would deserve 4 stars , but I didn't like the ending , it was a very good plot and I didn't like the way it finished , but that's just my opinion.

Read it , it's a good book , it's just not that great , after reading this , I'm more interested in reading more books of J.A. Jance and more about the Story of Joanna Brady.

The Eleventh Commandment
The Eleventh Commandment
by Jeffrey Archer
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book of Jeffrey Archer, Jun 24 2002
I was a little surprised with this book , I expected a lot more from Archer , but this book is full of non believable characters like Helen Dexter and some others.

It tells the story of a secret CIA agent who does a lot of non ofcial work , he was about to retire when a last job was asked to him , kill Zerimski , a russian presidential candidate but he didn't knew this was a trap for him to get caught and for the CIA to get hands clean on the murder of a colombian presidential candidate.

This book is fast and easy reading but most of it is non believable , it's like a movie , short and with a lot of plot holes.

I recommend this book only for Archer fans , I like his work in general , but I didn't like this one that much , it's not that bad but like I said , most of it is non believable.

If you want to read a short an easy reading book maybe you'll like it , but in my case I didn't.
