5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not essential, July 7 2010

In these days of GPS Navigation, as long as you don't run out of batteries, or power for your laptop, celestial navigation is becoming a thing of the past. This book explains the ins, outs, ups and downs of this ancient and venerated form of finding your way from point A to point B. With a good sextant, it is an invaluable tool, but one that must be studied extensively in order to be of much use. At the least though, this book explains what one can do and how to do it in a situation where we rely too much on the new and modern. It is an excellent and essential resource for anyone planning on sailing on the ocean, out of sight of land. Probably just as good a resource for Great Lake Sailors, but not as essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you plan on buying a used sailboat, July 7 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is an invaluable resource for anyone planning on buying their first sailboat. It is also a very good resource for those who already have sailboats, but want to know more about what to look for that can go wrong. Before paying someone to inspect and survey a prospective purchase, which can cost considerable money, both to buy and to have surveyed, read this book cover to cover. Then go shopping for your dream used sailboat. Armed with the stuff in this book, you can likely eliminated a lot of boats that a survey would discard. Then when you find 'that' boat, you know, "the one" for you, you will only have to shell out for one survey. At a minimum of $300 per survey, this could save you a lot of coin. Buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars HDMI for less, July 7 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This inexpensive HDMI cable works perfectly, in fact, as well as it's much more expensive cousins that can be purchased about anywhere that electronics are sold at a much higher cost. Research online told me that one did not necessarily have to spend fifty dollars or more for an HDMI cable, and this cable bears out that claim. It is carrying the digital Signal from my Pioneer Bluray player to my Sharp 60" LCD Flat Panel TV, and for all intents and purposes with absolutely no difference compared with a much more expensive cable that I had the misfortune of buying previously. I would definitely recommend this cable. Size and expense may matter when dealing with analog Audio cables, but this exception proves the rule that expensive does not necessarily make better. I now purchase only inexpensive HDMI and Toslink cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, but MUCH BETTER, July 7 2010

Underworld took the world by storm as a much more action packed Vampire versus Werewolf film. Kate Beckensale is awesome as Serena, an avid hunter and killer of werewolves. She is the center and anchor for the entire series, which now numbers three. I have the first in Bluray, which tempted me into buying this, the second installment, also in Bluray. When Rise of the Lycans comes down in price, I will buy it also. This is simply one of the best Vampire movies that I have seen, albeit a bit dark. This is corrected by being Bluray, which does not change the darkness, but increases the clarity to a point that perfectly visible scenes are possible. Now the darkness of the movie does not hide, but simply enhances the viewers immersion into the film. A must for Vampire fans - all three installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Movie, July 7 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What can I say. I have eight different copies of this movie, and could be considered a cult fan of Blade Runner. This copy is in Bluray, which gave me a new experience in that the movie almost jumps off the screen in this media. It is still the same Blade Runner that I know and love, but so much more vivid and viewable. I saw things that I had not seen in prior viewings, and am very impressed with Bluray. I don't know what they will follow this media with, but it will need to be impressive. The movie? What the hey, I ain't no film critic, but I love it. There are only a few movies that I watch more than once and this is one of them. Give it a go. You also may love it like I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must for the sailboat shopper, July 7 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book will teach you more about the ins and outs of how sailboats of different manufacture were made than any other that I have found. It is an excellent resource for the sailor who wishes to upgrade to a larger previously enjoyed sailboat, as well as for the soon to be sailor who is just looking to get into the life. It reviews several fairly well known sailboats, as well as some fairly unknown models. It is the unknown or not as well known models that I found this book most valuable for. This book enabled me to realize that Allied Princess boats were virtually immune to osmotic blistering. So I bought one of those too. And it had no osmosis. Proved the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars More and more, July 7 2010

I have watched only so far "The Fellowship of the Ring" from this set, but the video quality of bluray is awesome. As far as the plot and storyline, well everyone knows of the Lord of the Rings, so I won't bother. I ain't no film critic. I am however a bit of a videophile, and this has been remanufactured to bluray with a more than satisfactory result. I will be upgrading a lot of my video collection to bluray. I was a bit of a holdout, and only got a bluray about six months ago, and I really have to say, firstly, I wish I had done it sooner, but secondly, I am glad I waited till they came down in price. This Lord of the Rings collection is a nine disk set, so the price is very reasonable. It has all three full length movies, plus a complete special features disk (in bluray) for each of the three movies showing things like the making, planning and excution of the Lord of the Rings. In addition it comes with the three movies on DVD as well. And as a final extra, until sometime in 2012, I believe, you can download a digital copy of each of the three movies for use on an IPhone, IPod or other electronic device similar to these. I have not yet done this, but will in future, and if possible, will then add to this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Breathtaking, July 7 2010

What can I say. It is BluRay. Watching this movie with it's vivid colors and snappy action in Bluray played from a Pioneer player to a 60" Sharp LCD flat panel tv is simply breathtaking. Aside from the storyline, the playback is awesome. The movie is pretty good also. I am not a film critic, so all I can say is WOW to the picture quality, and "I liked it" to the movie. It has lots of action, lots of strange looking people, lots of quirks and a satisfactory ending. But the picture quality is fantastic. I have not yet watched it on my 100" screen, but will soon. I will get back to you on that.

I would definitely recommend this cable.
