5.0 out of 5 stars What a FIND!, May 10 2003
Let me tell all of you reading this, these are two of the most unbelievable jazz albums you will ever own. If you love a piano as chordal as Red Garner and as full of crescendo as the classic "Blues for the Night Owl" by Ramsey Lewis, prepare for a find of a lifetime. Look, this man is almost unheard of these days, but he backed Gloria Lynn in the early 60's with a piano styling that made her vocal breaks welcome. "Dancing In The Dark" is a well worn tune that Foster reshapes to a crescendo beyond anything you have ever heard. Now to what makes this disc and this artist so different. Foster builds such fantastic chords that will floor you. They start out very softly and moderately slow then gets more dynamic and powerful until your speakers are pushed to their limits. I have played these two albums until the jackets are worn out. Buy this one, and you are going to get hooked on this guy. God knows whatever happened to him, but thank God, these 2 are a find you will never forget and will share with everyone as I have. By the way many audiophiles may remember Grisella Oliphant, the drummer. You have not heard anything yet! You are about to find why the piano is a percussion instrument! These have been gone for too long. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait There's More!, Mar 1 2003
This review is from: Album (Audio CD)
If you haven't made up your mind about this recording from the previous comments, let me give you the bottom line. Don Costa had worked with Sinatra on the WB /Reprise label, but Rankin could not have timed the effort better, for Costa passed away not long after this was made.. This IS one of the truely magnificent vocal albums in history. Why it never got the recognition it deserves I will never know, but the session is unreal. "When Sunny Gets Blue" and "Here's That Rainy Day" will show you a "lush-ness" beyond belief. I would bet anyone, that more than half of the people who own(ed) the LP have the CD, it is simply that good from beginning to end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gringos can jump!, Feb 22 2003
This review is from: Descarga (Audio CD)
I am humbled by Greg C's view of Tjader and can expain why this along with about 40 others by CT are a must. This guy was never seen by his peers as a gringo, he WAS "simpatico." He could hold his own with being the vibist with George Shearing, playing percussion with Dave Brubeck or letting it all hand out with Eddie Palmieri. He was discounted by too many critics of jazz because he saw a jazz classic in a McCartney/Lennon tune as much as a Gershwin piece. He was able to make more albums than just about anybody short of Miles,Dizzy or Oscar Peterson. I know it went into the hundreds! This LP is only refined by its inherent digital longevity. Hope my great, great, great grandchildren love it as much as I have.

2.0 out of 5 stars What is This?, Jan 16 2003
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This cd is a total waste of money. The version of "High Heeled Sneakers" sounds more like Ray Coniff does Iron Butterfly. Look I do not where these cuts came from, but Jose has got thirty different versions of every song he's done. Why, I have no clue. BUT, buyer beware. On this especially.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sgt. Peppers vol. Dui?, Jan 15 2003
Look, as music goes, variations on a theme is part of any genre. This album, however, yells out "leave well enough alone." A remix of Sgt.Peppers LHCB might thrill a person born in 1986, but when you hear the real thing, you ask why change it? This album is a total waste of a truly great disc. Like Gipeto said to Pinocchio, "stay wood!"
