4.0 out of 5 stars fun movie, May 26 2001
it's so annoying to hear or read reviews about how 'unrealistic' this movie is and so on...it's supposed to be an URBAN LEGEND! it's not supposed to be realistic because that's not how it happened. watch the end and you realize that perfectly. as far as someone figuring out the killer after 15 minutes...i'd like to know how, no one i know had a clue at all about who the killer was. and we're college students, we're not that stupid or anything. i really enjoyed this movie, but what got it four stars was the commentary...it was so enlighting and very funny, i always watch it with the commentary on anymore because it is so much fun. of course the deaths are going to be predecitible, they're urban legends...we've all heard them but that doesn't make it dull. i thought there were several times when the deaths were done in creative variations of the origianl ULs. this isn't a groundbreaking movie or anything but if you enjoy teen horror movies i think you'll enjoy this movie plenty.

4.0 out of 5 stars lots of fun, May 26 2001
i've been a terry gilliam fan since i saw 'brazil' and have rarely been disappointed. this lives up to his usual work in many ways, although it lacks the certain darkness that is present in much of his stuff. a fairy tale for adults is how i usually describe this movie to anyone who asks...unlike 'time bandits' and 'brazil' (the first two movies in the unofficial trilogy) which both show society and rationalism defeating man, the baron deals with the final victory of fantasy and belief over rationalism and science. this is just a fun movie to watch and to dream about. trying to think through it doesn't really work, you simply have to let your imagination go and accept it. not many movies challenge adults to do that anymore, and it is cool to have one that does.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's been done better elsewhere, May 26 2001
this was a worthwhile book to have, it hits on most major points in the lives of the subjects and does a decent job but i thought that it was a bit dry and sometimes hard to read through. there were also some selections that i thought were unnecessary while i found myself wishing that others had been included. but overall it is a good book to have on the shelf and nothing is poorly done so it gets three stars from me. but i would recommend 'invitation to christian spirituallity' by john r tyson. i'm probably biased because he was one of my professors but i still just feel that it is better written.

i had heard 'one step closer' once or twice and happened to see this cd in the store when i was in the mood for something harder so i bought it and i'm so pleased that i did. i really think this is one of the best rap-core type albums to come out in a while. limp bizkit has long over stayed their welcome as far as i'm concerned, crazy town is pretty weak, and pod just doesn't have the right edge for me. but linkin park has what i was looking for, a good mix of rap and rock lyrics and music. there are times when the vocals are almost metal like screaming and they might switch to nearly straight rap the next minute, and the music is varied as well. another thing i really appreciated about this album is how clean the language is. it is really refreshing to find a bunch of guys who can rock hard without needing to use foul language just for the sake of putting curses in. for that alone, i would give them five stars. but they earn it anyway as far as i'm concered by taking elements that they've obviously taken from others and using them well as their own music.

I've been a fan of Orgy since the first time I heard their cover of blue monday and I enjoyed their first album so I was extremely happy to hear that a new album was finally coming out. And i can thankfully say that I'm not dissapointed at all. Orgy has shown a lot of growth in this album. The sound of this new album takes a mix of the best synth-techno rock like depeche mode and mixes it with the awesome drumming style of nine inch nails and other harder bands while keeping their already good style of guitar work to create a really good musical sound. That and the improved lyrics make for a much more consumer accessible album then candyass was. The album has an odd sort of futuristic sound to it that most bands like powerman 5000 have tried to acheive and failed. I feel that the best songs on candyass would be considered only average songs on this cd, and not a lot of artists can accomplish that on their sophomore album. I think that this album will please all orgy fans as they hear the band grow and it will aslo help orgy reach out to some new listeners as well.
