Tall, dark, and handsome are three words that can be used to describe Jacque. Other words can be used such as wild, crazed, and lethal! He is a carpathian who was captured and tortured and left buried with a stake in his chest for years. He survived but as a result is a wild man who does not remember his past. His only link is with a woman's mind. He cries out for her to help him but when she doesn't he waits for revenge... Shea O'Halloran was studying one evening in her dorm when she felt horrible pain and was mentally linked to a man she did not know as he was tortured and staked. She thought that she had been hallucinating and whenever the man spoke to her she thought it was a hallucination. She had always been different from others. She had a rare blood condition which required that she need blood transfusions. She could connect with her patients and use her gifts to help ease them. Shea is suddenly on the run after a confrontation with some men who showed her pictures of people they had killed and beheaded. She ends up in the Carpathian Mountains and tries to save the man who had been in her head for years. She saves him only to be attacked by the wild man. Shea must save him and help keep him sane as they are hunted by vampire hunters and an unknown traitor.
Christine Feehan's books are different from the other romance novels on the market. Each book captures readers and shocks them from the first page to the last. This book begins with Alexandria and her brother being captured by a vampire. They are not rescued until after the vampire has taken her blood. When Aidan, the gorgeous Carpathian vampire hunter does come to save them he thinks that Alexandria has been turned into a vampiress and almost kills her before realizing that she is his lifemate. The fact that he is rich and gorgeous pales beside the facts that he drinks blood and sleeps in the ground and has made it so that she must do the same to survive. Alexandria must deal with the emotional conflicts in herself, the jealousy of having to rely on others to help care for her brother, and added to that the fact that she is a target for any vampire in the area. I recommend this book to all readers. It has something for everyone.
I love Christine Feehan's books and this was no different. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel. The suspense of when Jaxon's stepfather was going to strike and who he would kill was built up throughout the book. The ending then disappointed me. The suffering that the stepfather had inflicted on Jaxon was so great that I felt he should have had a battle with Jaxon or a more gruesome ending than how he was dealt with at the end. My friend who read the book also agreed with me. The book was great until the ending. It disappointed me so much that I am only giving this 3 stars. The book is worth reading but readers will find the final battle a disappointment.
