I love Nora Roberts writing style. Her female characters are strong, witty, intellegent women as are the men. They balance each other out and you become part of the book. The whole trilogy captivates and draws you in until you cannot rest until you've finished all three books. Loved them all.
This is a 700+ page turner and I've read it completely from cover to cover three times in the past 5 years. I felt a real connection to the main character, Isabella Buchan and once I began my geneoligical journey tracing back my ancestors, I realized why! My Great-Great Grandmother's name was Isabella Buchan (maiden name) Everything happens for a reason and even without this connection to Ms Erskines real life characters, I loved the story, the passion, the gut wrenching scenes of death and evil men. Once you read this move on to Daughters of Fire.
This was one of the first books I read when exploring the pagan/wiccan path. I didn't find her frightful but nor did I find her believeable on some topics. I kept seeking through meditation and other books and by talking to people until I found those who simply told it like it is, the good and the bad. It was from my own research that assisted me in making the decision to leave my Christian life behind and become a witch. What the author fails to mention in this book, is that to learn all of the Wiccan ways, what it entails to be Wiccan/pagan/Witch, it will take many lifetimes as we are learning as we go by what our instincts tell us is the truth and not what one author puts forth as truth. We have to stop and listen to the earth, the water, the air and the sun for they will direct us. The moon and the sun will give us energy and love us. We must adore each other and treat each other with respect. I am a witch and I won't put my head in the sand but neither will I shove it in another religons face. This is not right and I sincerely abide by the "harm none" rule, one which I believe Ms Ravenwolf needs a refresher course in. Blessed be to all.
I have just about completed a course with the withes rune cards and book. I have learned so much more than if I had read the book only. I highly recommend getting someone to guide you through the cards and book as you will retain more of the information written here. There are so many variables concerning the cards and how they are read. Learning to trust the intuitive is crucial. Blessed Be.
