I can finally throw out all the episodes I recorded on VHS about a dozen years ago. Many episodes is Season 5 have been released on DVD many times in public domain collections that were terrible quality. The episodes on the current full Season 5 release are terrific quality. One episode, Lucy and Pat Collins, has been edited by about 1 minute due to a problem with music rights.
Could someone tell me why Season 5 was on sale after Christmas 2011 for $18.00 but Season 4 is still the same price? You'd think the older releases would have been on sale instead of the most recent one.
I've only watched a few episodes so far, and each runs about 26 minutes, which is proof that they are the full uncut episodes. It's great fun to be able to choose to watch the episodes with the regular opening credits or choose to watch them with the original openings which includes the "brought to you by" sponsor messages for products like Jell-O. The Lucie Arnaz interview is useless and doesn't tell anything you didn't already know, but the Jimmy Garrett interview is more interesting. Picture quality is top-notch!!! Original cast commercials for products such as Jell-O and Swan dishwashing liquid, unseen since they first aired in 1962-63, are hilarious for the fact that you can see the cast (especially Vivian Vance) obviously reading their lines off cue cards. My only minor complaint is that all four discs are in a flip storage system rather than individual cases. Other than that, I am happy with my purchase and look forward to the release of more seasons!
