one of the great american films from the 1980's., Jun 22 2001
With only philadelphia and silence of the lambs to refer to, I never could fully understand why Johnathon Demme was so highly touted. But After viewing this film I can see That Demme certainly was an American voice to be reckoned with at one point. This film crackles and gyrates like no other American movie at the time , except for perhaps the categorically similar After Hours. The way this film seems to be so thematically aware of the time it was taking place in is almost revelatory. a true achievement that all too sadly illuminates the sheer and utter waste of Demme's later career, much like what My Own Private Idaho does to that of Gus Van Sant.Plus the great American rock band the Feelies make an unexpected cameo.

I feel grrreat!, Jun 21 2001
Show me one thing in the entire John Lennon/Beatles catalogue that's as evocative and transcendent as Big black car. I also re heard it through the grape vine that Holiday Inn just recently sent twenty grand to Alex chilton in order for them to use the song in a series of commercials starring nathan lane.

It's the treble gang, May 27 2001
If I can ever get a few of my right wing notions to ever materialize into some sort of gruff backwoods militia I think I'll choose the track "Barmy" as our march song.So government fat cats beware, no longer will we allow you to invest our hard earned cash into an efficient postal system or noble social programs.

the press is out and Yakoff smirnof loves this book., May 7 2001
Hallow muh american frends, in sovet younyun we don't watch t.v instead weh watch uncule boris shave neck, is this great country or what? not only can you watch uncule boris shave neck but you can opt to watch him doo et in espanol from privacy of own home now thats great country.Don't forget folks to chech out mie won man show entitled "Yakety-Yak off, dont come back-off" playin all through the months of may to september right here in byootiful branson missourri, where my good friend john gaddis will be opening for me with his most hillarious act ever,a dramatic reading of chapters 4 through 8 set to a gritty and most decidedly funky beat provided by his backup performers RACKET. They use brooms and tea kettles as instruments, forget perestroika now thats great country.

perfect, April 21 2001
enough has been said about rear window's attributes. Yet one thing that has never really been discussed is the films amazing evocation of the period in which it was made. Hitchcock either deliberately or by accident captured the social and sexual currents of the 1950's with an almost hyper amount of dexterity. This film may not reflect the year that I am living and it may be nearly a half century old but when I watch it it lives and breathes more than most American films since, not to sound pretentious or overtly abstract when i watch rear window I can almost smell jimmy stewart's apartment and for two hours it's 1954 again.

yes., April 21 2001
I don't blame any one for hating the swans, i really don't. This music is violent , abrasive, and very unfriendly. Not in a generic trent reznor sort of way, but in a way that is ambitious beautifully conveyed and ultimately highly rewarding. The work presented by the swans on this wonderfully packaged album(s) presents yet another case for the 1980's being the most creatively fertile period in the history of rock.

a plead to the edge., Mar 15 2001
yeah I loved U2 in highschool and still regard their work up to zooropa as valid, but come on these boys are over. But not you the Edge, you are and will always be the most important component of that band your guitar playing still remains very fresh and exciting. So why don't you drop bono and team up with someone who's more with it. Bottom line it's always been you kid those other guys are just the wrapping paper.

soul's tongue, Mar 2 2001
Greg sage is a national treasure pure and simple , and it is very disheartening to know that he isn't recognized for what he brings to music. he sings with clarity and a certain degree of compassion that can cut through the middle of most rock musicians out there. long live greg sage, his message, his humanity , that marvelous echo enhanced voice of his , and the memory of his dog.
