5.0 out of 5 stars subterranean homesick chili peppers, April 24 2004
This review is from: Off the Map [Import] (DVD)
The red hot chili peppers are a band which never fails to please. Here they released a concert film, with backstage footage, and interviews called off the map.

THE CONCERT:
They play great. But you know, it doesn't have that huge stage and that atmosphere like in live at slane castle, but i like it. Anyway, they play some really old songs like me & my friends, and blackeyed blondie, and many more. They even play pea, which is from one hot minute. The musicianship is great like in live at slane castle. But the problem is that what you see is not what you hear. Like in otherside, it shows them playing much faster than you hear. And the same thing in more songs. The audio concert is one concert if you didn't know, so that's good. It's just that video is made up of a few. Anyway, it's really funny in the end where balls and makaroni starts falling on chad durring me & my friends. It was a joke by the opening act, the foo fighters. But the audio in that song was edited, so that it would be better to hear, and that annoys me! I wanna hear how it really sounded. So that's the problem, but everything else is perfect. Especially the performances. Search and destroy, sir psycho sexy, give it away, scar tissue, me & my friends, skinny sweaty man, blackeyed blondie, i could have lied, fire, if you have to ask, around the world, suck my kiss, blood sugar sex magik, what is soul, pea, easily, parallel universe, ussually just a t-shirt #3 are great. I mean seriously. And it also has great jamming. Flea has to be the best bassist of all time. And chad really rocks the drums. Not to mention John frusciante, who's one of the most amazing guitarists next to jimmy page and jimi hendrix. Anyway, the concert is great.

THE BACKSTAGE FOOTAGE & INTERVIEWS:
I think the backstage footage is too short. But it's really funny sometimes. Like when anthony warms up singing. Or when chad is fooling around. And it's interesting to watch them in the plane, practicing yoga and stuff like that. But you can't hear the interviews very well. But who cares. It's all about the music.

Anyway, I'd rate this DVD 5 stars, because it's very enjoyable, and highly recommended to any peppers fan, and music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than the original, April 3 2004

This one's really better than the original. It has the live hurt, and only one eraser remix. It has a ruiner remix. And heresy. I really would recommend this instead of the original further down the spiral.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, April 1 2004
This review is from: Mother's Milk (Audio CD)
Mother's milk is a masterpiece for many reasons. First, it's one of the first rap-rock albums. Second it's the first classic line up album. It has john frusciante on guitar, and chad smith on drums. Now, the songs here are really good too. This album has pretty much rock vibe, and that's one of the reasons it's great as well. Now i'll go through the songs.

Good time boys - Unfairly underrated song. Really great rapping mixed with funk metal. 5/5.

Higher ground - The only song from this album which is on the greatest hits cd. It's a cover of stevie wonder. 5/5.

Subway to venus - Very funky. The horn section is great. This is actually a very underrated song. 5/5.

Magic Johnson - It's a slogan about that basketball player. Not too much a song, and actually there's no other peppers song like this. Excellent. 4/5.

Nobody weird like me - A noisy track, but still good. I kinda skip it. 3/5.

Knock me down - A tribute to hillel slovak. I saw the video, and john looks more than weird. Anyway, it's a pretty cool song. 5/5.

Taste the pain - This was a single too. It's pretty cool. It reminds of if you want me to stay. 5/5.

Stone cold bush - This one's a hard rocker. But it's still funky. Great. By the way, flea's bass slapping is great. 5/5.

Fire - A cover of jimi hendrix. This one's actually from the uplift mofo party plan sessions, and it originally appeared on the abbey road ep. Here's hillel slovak on guitar, and jack irons on drums. I believe it was recorded in '87. Great. 5/5.

Pretty little ditty - A short instrumental. Crazy town ripped off the whole riff off this song for their song. Here's actually flea playing trumpet, if you didn't know. 4/5.

Punk rock classic - A very fast punk rocker. And short though. Frusciante's solo is really fast, and I was surprised. 4/5.

Sexy mexican maid - A pretty slow song, with a cool saxophone solo. It's very good. 4/5.

Johnny, kick a hole in the sky - Probably the weakest song, but still listenable. It's funky though. 3/5.

Overrall, a great album, I believe it's one of their best, and if you like it, get freaky styley, one hot minute, blood sugar sex magik, and the rest of the peppers. And please vote not whether you agree or disagree with me, but for the information.

3.0 out of 5 stars good music, bad production, Mar 28 2004
This review is from: Extended Versions (Audio CD)
This is a bootleg called extended versions. It's by an old, infamous british rock band called mountain.

The guitar playing and everything else is good. This cd really sounds like a bootleg, but I think here's just too much jamming, and playing-whatever. And also, the package sucks. No details at all. I would like to know, when this was recorded. Anyway, it's still worth three stars, because the music itself is not bad, but the production sucks. This is something good for classic rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than the 20th century collection, Feb 8 2004
This review is from: Molten Gold (Audio CD)
Free is one of the very greatest bands of all time, and this is their best collection. It still has a very few missing songs, but that's ok. If you don't wanna buy albums, this is it.

Free is a very influential band, and you can hear it. For instance Paul Kossoff definetly influenced angus young from acdc, or Paul Rodgers definetly influenced David Coverdale from deep purple/whitesnake.

This is really better than the 20th century collection. And I highly recommend it, as a introduction to a wonderful band. But if you want albums, get fire and water, tons of sobs, free at last, free live, and highway.

1.0 out of 5 stars two good songs, Oct 25 2003
This review is from: St. Anger (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I think this album is bad, because here are no guitar solos, and it's very noisy. I actually don't have this album, but I listened to it in a CD store. And I also listened to it on the internet. I don't recommend it to you.

1.0 out of 5 stars terrible compilation, Sep 28 2003
This review is from: Deep Purple, Best Of (Audio CD)
This is terrible. Don't buy it ! Don't buy Deep Purple's compilations at all. Take instead Fireball, Machine Head, In rock ... Because these albums are MUST-HAVE albums. Forget about
it. Or if you really wanna have a compilation, buy the very best
of deep purple, instead of this one.
