It's a great album, but you always compare from previous albums by the same artist. It's certainly not as solid as On an Island. Different as he always is and very ambient - at least to my ears. Does that make a great album?, probably not. I need to listen some more, so this review is a little premature. But you can't take away his skills on guitar - sublime, sweet, tender - the back up musicians are fantastic, the arrangements very good and his wife is writing the lyrics to some songs. Solid but lacking somewhere?..

Haven't listened to anything from this artist in a long time. I got fed up with Dire Straits, thought they had outlived their usefulness.
This album takes quite a lot of listening to, but it really grows on you. It's subtle and gentle and proves that he hasn't lost his touch either as a guitar player or song writer. Play it over, it will grow on you.

This guy never disappoints. Another solid album. Tinged with country and blues and a welter of great singers and musicians. Praying For Rain is probably my favourite. Food for thought and music to soothe the soul, this is one great album. He said he had so much fun doing this as many of his co-perfomers were funny - laughing and making music - does life get any sweeter?.. Kudos to you Don. I've heard people say mean things about you, words are cheap, music is salvation.

I've been listening to The Eagles since the 70's. Always loved their stuff. This album is no exception. Great original songs, perfect harmonies, great musicianship. If this makes it MOR, then I'm glad to be there and after I saw them live in Western Canada recently, they only re-affirmed their reputation as a great live act and recording band. Keep it going boys, we luv ya..

2.0 out of 5 stars what a letdown, March 21 2013

Being a huge fan of Tolkien and loving the LOTR movies, I feel extremely dissapointed with this lacklustre effort.
The movie is way too long, the dwarves unpleasant and largely pointless and the childish stabs at humour totally unfunny.
Bilbo comes across as a kind of clownish figure, Gandalf doesn't really know what to do or say and the other characters just bumble around.
The excitement created in LOTR is gone, the special effects are as good as ever, but without a good story line it just plods along from one silly scene to the next. What were you thinking Peter Jackson?. Tolkien I'm sure would be turning in his grave.
