An Important Message of Our Age from the Past, Sep 14 2003
In the history of film, few Christian movies have really made an impact with a profound message like 'Time Changer' has since it's release. It's a mixture in the genre of Christian, sci-fi and drama. In the year 1890 a Bible professor, Russell Carlisle (D. David Morin) has written a new manuscript, "The Changing Times." Carlisle's book is about to be unanimously endorsed from the Grace Bible Seminary board until his colleague Dr. Norris Anderson (Gavin MacLeod) raises an objection. If we remove Jesus' authority. There are no standard of living. Satan's goal is to remove Jesus Christ from human morality from all aspects of life. Dr. Anderson believes that what Carlisle has written could greatly affect the future of coming generations. Anderson persistance of a sceptical Carlisle journey into the future pays off. Using a secret time machine, Anderson transports Carlisle over 100 years into the future to the year 2002. In the future, Carlisle is offered a glimpse of where his beliefs will lead. Once Carlisle enterd into our present time, he experiences things that shock and dismay him. He meets Eddie Martinez (Paul Rodriquez), a good guy who says it's all he needs to get by. Carlisle quickly learn the way of modern society. He visits a modern day church and witnesses it's new doctrine of teaching. Carlisle also visits the University Library on the advisory of Dr. Anderson to meet and tlak with Michelle Bain (Jennifer O'Neill). His meeting with her is an eye-opener. In the meantime he meets with some other interested parties while attending a movie at a local theater. During their conversation, Carlisle gives these two fellows some lead about his past and a clue that send them in an investigative trail about Carlisle's mysterious origins. Back at the University Library, he lectures to a class and relates Dr. Anderson's teachings in relation to Jesus Christ. The teacher rebuts Carlisle and tells him that his lecture on religion is not allowed. With Carlisle's disappointed it was worser than he could imagine. Carlisle has another meeting with Michelle Bain while back in his room the undercover men break in to find his bible dated 1865. In his discussion with Ms. Bain, she tells him society's not built on biblical principles anymore (based on the ruling of the Supreme Court of 1962 ending school prayer). A sign of the times. People rely on their own goodness that can't save them. In relation to her own life, Bain had success but emptiness. She found God is patient. Her work at the library gave her a chance to tell people about Christ. Secular entertainment is the biggest tool Satan uses to mislead people. He desensitizes us through profanity, violence and sexual immorality. Even with cleaner morals, Satan is the deceptor who kept Jesus Christ from society. The fear of God is beginning of wisdom and if we don't what can we expect. A prayerful Carlisle sees his wrong. On his last night he's asked to speak at a church meeting. He shares with these people some matters of the heart. Matters of culture different from theirs. The lifestyle he observed was startling. He quotes from 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Society is blanant and open as much as in the days of Noah. Through his own fault we try to reform the teachings of the Lord without the Lord of the teachings. Jesus died for our sins. Our eternity depends on it. Society will go through troubled times. Carlisle leaves them in silence. He says goodbye to Eddie and gives him a bible and Christ's message. He hurries to the designated place of return. The men who had been following him show up. They're in for the surprise of their lives! He vanishes in the speed of light. Carlisle is back in 1890. He tells Dr. Anderson he was wrong in his thinking. Without Christ people are lost. Could he have witnessed the last days? Carlisle presented his new manuscript to the Seminary Board called "Time Changer." Time must change or time as we know it will end. Over 1900 years ago Christ came to save us and complete the task of salvation. How far could one go into the future to witness the last days? 2090-2080-2070-2060-? The future is in God's hands. A spectacular movie I highly recommend.

Good Start for Illustrators, Sep 13 2003
Treld Pelkey Bicknell's 'How to Write and Illustrate Children's Books' is really more for illustrators of children's books then the writer's aspect of the book. It's a good source for that particular purpose. If you want a more indepth instruction on the children's book writing process I suggest Barbara Seuling's 'How to Write a Children's Book and Get It Published.' Bicknell's book is valuable for it's comprehensive topics and illustrations. The first part include topics of constructing a story from beginning to end (planning and plotting, story structure, dialogue). There's a section on getting to know your reader and choosing the right words. Plus other informative information like looking into the world of children and the influence of new writing. The second part is devoted to illustration and discusses getting to know your audience, the types of picture books (board, pop-ups, zig-zag, flap, half-flap, holes, pictorial consequences, long text, minimal text, wordless, picture strips). It combines pictures with interpeting a text and using your imagination. Building the porfolio follows in the creation process. The last part is devoted to getting published. Starting from making the book, preparing the roughs, the right style for the right job. The author tops it off with factual writing and researching, Fad & Novelty books and finding the right publisher. To find what's in the market I also suggest the 'Children's Book Writer and Illustrator's Market Book' as a directory in that field to find the right genre of which publisher to contact. This book is a handy source like the other two I mentioned.

One of the Best Songwriters of the 50s, 60s & 70s, Sep 12 2003
Where have all the great entertainers gone? Their songs were fun to listen to and you could understand their meaning. Well Neil Sedaka is one of those performers from the late 70s that had a number of hits that at least one has sung many times by other singers like The Captain and Tennille who did "Love Will Keep Us Together." You can hear "Sedaka's Back" at the end of the song. He's accompanied by his daughter, Dara on the lovely ballad "Should've Never Let You Go." Sadly, "Your Precious Love" wasn't another great selection with the father-daughter team. Who can forget the memorable, "Bad Blood" jive-funk song with Elton John as back-up vocals. Let's not forget his #1 hit song, "Laughter in the Rain." That's why I love those rainy days. Not only is Sedaka a great performer, he's one of the best composer in the history of music with a milestone of over 40 years. Sedaka turned out many hits during the 50s and early 60s. Most of his hits were written before The Beatles. Sedaka still wrote songs for other groups. A short stench in England introduced him to Elton John. Even into the 70s and early 80s Sedaka proved a non-stop survivor in a changing music industry. His songs still carry on. It brings back alot of memories of the early days of high school when I listened to Neil and other artists of the same caliber like Marvin Gaye, Carole King, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, etc. This is Sedaka's definitive album, if not his finest. If you like a trip back to the 50s, 60s and 70s, definitely give this one a try!

The Truth of Our Future Revealed, Sep 9 2003
If you never read prophecy teacher Grant R. Jeffrey's 'Messiah,' 'Apocalypse,' 'Prince of Darkness' and Armageddon,' you got to read 'Prince of Darkness' first. It's the most important book you'll ever read in this present day. It contains everything you need to know of the biblical prophecies that reveal the secret globalist conspiracy and the current events surrounding it. From the beginning struggle of Planet Earth. Satan has attempted to rule earth as a "god" and destroy what is good and the Holy people of God. Since the time of his fall, Satan's diabolical plan is to destroy the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ from the time of the Great Flood to Christ's crucifixion. That's why it's impossible to fully appreciate or understand Western culture and history without a tremendous role played by the Holy Scriptures. Amazingly, 'Prince of Darkness' was published in 1994 before some present day events happened. Since then most things mentioned in this book has already come to past! If you need to find answers about what's wrong with the world today-this is a must. Jeffrey explains about the ancient writings about the prince of darkness and his plot to destroy mankind. Jeffrey explains the meaning of the prophecies from Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah and Isaiah and how they relate to our present time scenerio. Thirty-eight astonishing prophecies fullfilled sinced 1948 point to the imminent return of the Messiah-Jesus Christ. Research that reveals in depth and detail from bible prophecy to shocking truth behind today's headlines: • The rise of the Roman Empire is already implemented in the "1992 Plan" of the European Union another deception of the globalist plans to enslave people in the one world government. This is headed by the Tri-Lateral Commission. • The Council of Foreign Relations and the Tri-Lateral Commission key players in the move towards abandonment of national sovereignty that will lead to the AntiChrist and one world government. Along with this will come the economic and stock market crash ushered in by financial conspiracies. • Implementation in technological electronic surveillance where phone calls are monitored, and plans for a world currency is produced in the United States of America. • The rising threat of big government putting assaults on our privacy and personal freedom in ways you could never imagine by using every means possible in their sophisticated art of deception. • Rise of Anti-Semitism and Christian presecution. Propaganda forged by Russian secret police with an attempt of an Inquisition against Christian and Jews. • The rise of Russian imperialism and their deception to the world to disarmament fraud, and the secret agenda behind the PLO-Israeli peace agreement and Arab control and elimination of Israel. • Illegal Arab boycott of Israel since 1948 still being operated today in an effort to gain access to Arab oil. The unneccessary dependency of North America on cheap Middle East oil sparked the rise of Arab terrorism, hatred of Israel, Desert Storm and the present Iraqi War. All due to the wrong deliberate choices the governments made. (*also revealed in Jeffrey's 'War on Terror: Unfolding Bible Prophecy' on video). All of this and more was predicted before our present day. Most of the prophecies mentioned in this book have already come to past! This is an astounding book. If you need to find answers about the coming events of current issues this will help in your search for truth.

The One...The Only...The FABULOUS...DUMBO!, Aug 29 2003
'Dumbo' is one of my all-time favorite Disney classics. It's timeless! Everytime I watch it the story never gets old. There isn't another sweeter movie to match it. It's a darling story of how a little elephant with unusally big ears finds that no matter how unique you are you're always have a purpose in life. Who says that a character gotta speak in an animated film or any film for that matter? It's the emotion and facial expressions that speak louder than words. The innocence and sentiment surpasses it peers to a priceless treasure. You'll fall in love with the characters Dumbo and his circus companion, Timothy Q. Mouse. Other highlights of the movie is the scenes with the Crows and the music score (won an Academy Award in 1942 for Best Music Score), "When I see an Elephant Fly" sung by the Hall Johnson Choir, the pink elephant (could this be an 1941 anti-alcohol message?). You'll find yourself shedding a tear to "Baby Mine" (nominated for an Academy Award in 1942 for best song). If not, I pronounce you clinically brain dead. I always feel lulled into a calm state-of-mind every time I hear it. Try it sometime! In my honest opinion, the Top 10 all-time greatest Disney classics would be: 1. Dumbo, 2. Mary Poppins, 3. The Jungle Book, 4. Winnie the Pooh, 5. Pochantas, 6. Tarzan, 7. The Lion King, 8. Lady and the Tramp, 9. The Love Bug, 10. Fantasia.

Essential Ancient Church History, Aug 29 2003
Flavius Josephus was a first century Jewish historian who recorded Life in Galilee at the time of the Gospels of Christ. It's an excellent research source of insight on Jewish thought, background and ancient history. Josephus' documentation helps one to understand the world of Jesus and the Apostles. A Loeb numbering system makes it easy to locate passages referred to in other reference works. Each period set in an interval of 3,833 years. Josephus draws on his own experiences and the writings and knowledge of other historians. It's a complete chronology of the antiquities of the Jews. The histories are laid out according to the ancient scriptures, from the Creation to the Jews departure out of Babylon. It consists of a list of ancient testmonies and records of the Old Testament in comparsion to Josephus' histories. These also list the Wars of the Jews from the evils of Antiochus Epiphanes, Herod the Great and Nero to the Besiege of Jerusalem, The Great Extremity, the Taking of Jerusalem and the Sedition of the Jews at Cyrene. This makes an excellent indepth study tool alongside the Holy Bible regarding the ancient Jewish history as witnessed by this foremost authority of his day.

Harmony-a Place Close to Your Hometown & Heart, Aug 22 2003
If you ever read Sherwood Anderson's 'Winesburg, Ohio' or tuned-in to Public Radio for a night of Garrison Kiellor's 'Prairie Home Companion,' you would certainly take a liking to Philip Gulley's down-home tales in 'Home to Harmony.' Gulley takes us back to a time when we were all young and small being with loved ones-in a small town, sitting on the front porch after supper, watching the sun go down on another day. The sky in beautiful hue of orange and pink. You can hear the crickets serenade. In the distance you can hear a neighbor's door shut. The porch is a time of the conversation-listening story after story. Gulley takes us the again into every season of the year where life shimmers at every corner. Gulley reflects on his own life experiences some told by his grandfather with all the warmth and humor in each story. Imagine a tiny town where you bearly notice on a road atlas. Gulley portrays himself as Sam Gardner, a Quaker pastor of Harmony Friends Meeting. Sam's life begins as he's chose by the folks of Harmony after the passing of their former pastor. Sam speaks of his first year leading his hometown church. From there the reader and Sam join in some of the most heartwarming and funniest characters and situations you'll ever know. Makes you wish there was a Harmony near you. Experience life and adventure in small-town revival and the laughable incongruity of Billy Bundle, former wrestling champ billed as the "World's Shortest Evangelist." Get to know every cherished and sometimes oddball letters printed in Bob Miles Jr.'s Harmony Herald's controversial "Bobservation Post," much like the Reader's forum in some local newspaper you know of. When the day slows down visit the Legal Grounds Coffee Cup where a painting of the Last Supper hangs on the wall behind the buffet. Just think, Jesus and His disciples gazing over the salad bar. There's always some fish story to fry at the Coffee Cup. Namely the swordfish that appeared in Vinny Toricelli's pond-referred to the Loch Ness of Harmony. Sam's best friend from childhood, Uly Grant a direct descendant of Ulysses S. Grant whose son settled in Harmony, married a Quaker and opened the Grant Hardware Emporium. According to some historians, whether it was all true or not-we leave that to your opinion. Each place in Harmony town square has it's own reminiscences through every page. Each one entertaining to bring back some old memories of your old hometown. Reminds one of simple and ordinary moments of life that are treasured sacred gifts of faith, hope and love we have in family and friends. If you want to settle into a gentle, heartwarming, faith-inspired world and escape the rat race-then come home to Harmony. Talking pigs, dogs and ducks, oh! my!ï¿Delightful Tale, Aug 22 2003
Since my childhood days of watching episodes of Mister Ed, the talking horse. I often wondered how long it took to teach Mister Ed to just move his lips? The voice man stood in the wings and through his voice. Finally, this little gem came along. I never thought they could pull it off technically and visually adding voice and mouth movement to the animals. And the animals acted so well. Just as convincing as their human counterparts. 'Babe' was such a hit in 1995 that it was nominated in five categories and won one for the visual effects. A very worthy and well-deserved win. 'Babe' can be enjoyed by everyone young and old. I would recommended it as one of my top favorite children's film. As with some fate, Babe is saved from an unfortunate destiny, where all pigs must go. Babe and Farmer Hoggett paths cross at a country fair. Hoggett and Babe from that moment something passed between them. Hoggett guesses the weight of the little pig in a contest. Later that that week, Hoggett is notified as the winner. It's when Hoggett brings Babe to his new home, Babe meets a menagarie of farm animals that take a liking to their new addition to the Hoggett farm. Babe is adopted by Fly, an Australian border collie. Babe makes friends with a duck who thinks he's a rooster as cover from being a main course for Christmas dinner. Babe also makes friends with an ailing old ewe, Ma. One day, Farmer Hoggett allows Babe to accompany him and the sheepdogs in the fields where the sheep grazed. There Fly teaches Babe the art of being a sheep-pig. But, Babe also learns another valuable lesson in tending sheep. It's a test if Babe is cutout to be a good sheep-pig. With Ma's help the sheep co-operate with Babe. To Farmer Hoggett's amazement in Babe's special gift he enters Babe in annual sheepherding trials. In due time, Babe is put through the practice and confronts wolves who kill one of the sheep. Farmer Hoggett thinking Babe killed one of the sheep. Does it mean the death sentence for poor Babe? But Fly comes to Babe's rescue and saves the day for Babe. There's the jealous, bad cat out to get Babe when she snidely tells Babe of the pig's true purpose. Babe thinking that the Boss would in time eat him, Babe goes to Fly and ask if it were true. When Fly tells Babe the truth, Babe runs away in the rainy night. Next day, Fly and Farmer Hoggett find Babe taken by the cold rain and Hoggett nursed him back to health. Then the big day come and Hoggett and Babe go to the trials with a little surprise for the judges. Can Babe the sheep-pig prove himself good and be the next sheepherding champ? Bet you know the answer already. I'd recommend Babe to anyone of all ages, especially to parents with small children. It's a darling, captivating tale with a lesson for all. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something, until you prove them wrong. There's another film about another talking pig, 'Gordy' you may like, too.

The Granddaddy of the Star Wars Novels, Aug 22 2003
Alan Dean Foster's 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' is the very first Star Wars sci-fi novels to come out after Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope in 1978. How come I know is that I got it when it first come out that year. It an entertaining read with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia and the aid of the droids, C3PO and R2D2 while on a mission to enlist Rebel recruits become marooned on an uncharted swamp planet. They must go to search for the Kaiburr crystal on the hostile planet Mimban. The crystal is said to have power to anyone who possesses it make them invincible with the Force. Will they find it secret hiding place before it's in the hands of the evil Empire and Darth Vader? The confrontation of the two heros with Darth Vader gives one an idea of future story lines in the upcoming movie, 'The Empire Strikes Back.' At the time it was to earlier to tell if this was a mediocre tale compared to future SW novels. But since this was the first it was a great start as Lucas would put it a further adventure. One thing about this novel it doesn't include Han Solo or Chewbacca. So Luke and Leia seem to do pretty well on their own in this vintage adventure tale in the Star Wars galaxy. Since this was the novel that started deserves it's place in the SW novel hall-of-fame. Who knows if it weren't for Foster penning the first one would there still be the SW novels today?
