Eat to live, or Live to eat, Sep 25 2012
Dr. Fuhrman painstakingly provides evidence to how an average person has the power to choose between health and illness. This choice is based on what we choose to eat, and not eat. Let me state this again. Each person has the power to choose health over illness by choosing what to eat. His health equation that states health = nutrients/calories is an excellent way of looking at food when shopping or dining out. However, there are two things to clear up about this equation. First is that "nutrient" technically includes carbohydrate, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water. However, by nutrients, he specifically means minerals, vitamins and water. For example, a typically fast-food chain meal would be very high in carbs, proteins, and fats, but relatively low in minerals and vitamins per calorie consumed. He means you to not consume these. Instead by high nutrient foods, he means plant sources, especially leafy vegetables. Second, health is a state much greater than just eating the right types of foods, although food is a major player. Health also requires caloric restriction to reduce the oxidative burden, daily movements to pump the lymphatic sysmem, and correct perspectives in life. A healthy person with good diet can get quite ill due to the excess amounts he eats, or the incorrect views he has in life. Overall, an excellent book that I highly recommned. It was a joy to read this book. We need more people like Dr. Fuhrman. Albert M. Not just wheat, but may also need to eliminate other flour products, Sep 25 2012
I agree with Dr. Davis in restricting or removing wheat from diet. But I do see that patients who are severely intolerant of wheat products (bread, cakes, etc) do not have the same reaction to them while their stay in France. I concluded that the certain local French wheat must be of different strain. However, to nit pick, I haven't seen the dramatic weight loss changes that Dr. Davis reports such as 20, 30 or 50 pounds being off wheat, and I have put many people completely off wheat, sometimes for several years. And I also hope Dr. Davis meant, "fat loss" not simple overall "weight loss." Since the body's "weight" is made up of the good mass as well, such as muscles, bones, organs, water, etc, the term "weight loss" gives no meaning one way or the other in reference to the changes in someone's health status. People want health, not just weight loss. Two individuals of same height, sex and weight can have dramatic differences in their body composition. Significant fat reduction occured in my practise only when ALL FLOUR products (corn flour, rice flour, oat flour, rye flour, spelt flour, etc) were removed from the diet. This is because all flour would significantly raise insulin level usually peaking at 30 minutes after consuming these products. And to maintain a healthy body and mind, the hormone imbalance should be ruled out as well. This you should check with your doctor. This was a great read, and I thank Dr. Davis for the tremendous work put in. Dr. Albert M. Human beings are capable of continued growth, Sep 25 2012
Growth involves letting go of what we already know, and boldly entering the land of the unkonwn. When you are in this dark space, it is certain that mistakes will arise. Mistakes are not signs of descent, but rather signs of ascent. Failures and successes are merely the different rungs of the same ladder. And at the very top of the ladder sits your achievement--your wishes fulfilled. Life offers joy to those who continue on the journey of growth. Dr. Albert M. Kim, ND Author of Mind Your Healing. Excellent TV historically documentary, Jun 19 2012
Every culture has a hero who stood up for a group that is weak and vulnerable. Jumong is about a man who sees the pains in slaves, and rises up to the occasion to create a nation to protect these vulnerable individuals. It takes a few episodes to really appreciate the wisdom, compassion and courage that runs throughout the series. I highly recommend that you bear through the first two episodes to get your head around it, especially if you are not familiar with the Far Eastern culture. One caveat is to ensure that the subtitle translation is done properly. I have seen one version where the translation was a "google translation" that was impossible to follow through. Because I speak the Korean language, I didn't have to rely on the substandard translation. If you are purchasing this, perhaps ensure that there is a way to return this product if the translation is poorly done. Dr. Albert M. Kim, author of Mind Your Healing. Heart-warming, July 2 2007
This is a great movie for both young and old. The detail artwork is impressive. There are some confusing parts, such as the cat showing up that the main character pursues, but I fail to find it at all weaving into the whole story tight. This movie rekindles something that has been forgotten in many people--innocense. May you enjoy this show. Dr. Albert M.
