A good ending, July 13 2004
I could have done without the first section of this book (about the first 90 pages). The author essentially informs the reader that his/her lack of proper and appropriate parenting is the root of any and all of is/her adult troubles. The other thing that I dislike is the author's arrogance. At one point he even says that according to his definition he is practicing psychotherapy all the time and therefore feels it ok to bend and break ethical guidelines. Professionals are supposed to follow a code of ethics...that is what separates professions from other jobs. Another annoyance is the author's apparent need to show off his extensive vocabulary. Yeah, that's great that you went to school for 8 years but how gives a f*ck if you know words that are not commonly used. Having said that...The latter parts of this book are amazing!! I especially like the ending dealing with the subject of grace. The author presents practical knowledge, with examples, of how grace can work in everyday living. I also enjoyed the section on love, in which the author points to the illusion of romantic love and explains how 'falling in love' is nothing more than a fantasy that inevitably fades away. The structure of the book is perfect, an English professor would love it. Mr. Peck states and supports his opinions very clearly and for the most part, he presents opposing points of view as well. If you can get past the wordiness and the first 90 pages, then you will find some very useful and encouraging information.

Not worth the S&H, Jun 28 2004
I can see now why this cd is selling for $0.01 I wouldn't care so much if all I wasted was a penny on this cd, but I paid $2.50 after shipping and handling. This is a classic example of a band that releases a single and then creates an album of songs that sound absolutely nothing like the single. I bought this cd because I really like the song 'Walk Away'. The rest of this cd is just a bunch of filler to me. I just can't stand the shakiness of the lead singers voice...up and down, wobbling in and out of harmony. The music doesn't match the voice, the voice doesn't match anything. There isn't even a consistent sound. I get the impression this band had no idea what they were going for on this album so they just threw a bunch of stuff together. No wonder these guys never made it.

What happened??, Jun 27 2004
This is one of the worst cds I have ever purchased. Based on 'Throwing Copper' and 'The Distance To Here' I figured this album would be just as good. I was so dissapointed. I bought this cd mainly for the song 'Overcome', and it is the ONLY song on this entire cd that I like and that song is worth the 1 star that I give this lackluster effort. In fact it is the only song that I can listen to at all. The rest of this album sounds like a bunch of filler...the music just seems dead to me, like the band was reading off of cue cards or something. Maybe it is overproduction, maybe it is lack of emotion, but something is definitely missing from this album, especially compared to Live's previous releases. If you liked 'Throwing Copper' and 'The Distance to Here'...then DO NOT buy this album. I still consider myself a fan of Live...but I have to say that I am now a fan of their 'older stuff' since this album was/is such a dissapointment. The last straw for me was the very last track on the cd in which the leader singer attempts to rap...yes, that's right..Live playing a rap song...you can imagine how bad it sounds.

Classic, Jun 25 2004
The Chicks rock. This cd 'made' the Dixie Chicks the superstar trio they are today and for good reason. I would have given 5 stars but I had to save that for 'Home' their best album. What I love most about the Dixie Chicks is that they actually play instruments. They are not just 3 good looking ladies singing in a studio somewhere. They are 3 good looking, talented, touring, harmonizing, mothers...no really they are all mothers now.

Love it, Jun 25 2004
This one is a little more laid back than some of their other releases. Lyrically, this album is strong and for the most part there is a mellow kind of depressing feel. Any number of these songs could have been singles. If you like 'Lucky' the rest of this album has a similar tone. I pretty much like all of Seven Mary Three's stuff but this album really stands out, to me.

started my journey, Jun 20 2004
A friend gave me this book as a gift, as it had been given to him as one. Having no idea what to expect I figured 'why not?'. Once I started this incredible book I only became more amazed with each page. This one book laid the foundation for my current spiritual beliefs and started me on the quest for more/different spiritual perspectives. This book refers often to the Bible but not in a traditional way. Mr. Butterworth essentially says that Jesus was simply a living testament to the power within us all. Jesus and other 'masters' were no better than anyone else, they simply expressed the highest and truest 'self'. I love this book also because it is very practical. Each idea that is presented is given examples of how to apply the principle in everyday life. My favorite chapter is entitled 'Your thought is your life'. There is also an excellent chapter on prayer. I keep this book in my car, so that whenever I need a good read it is right there. This book truly changed my life 'god is nowhere'.

A masterpiece, Jun 16 2004
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is indeed a history of philosophy but is revealed through the interactions of Sophie and her mysterious 'teacher'. There seems to be 3 stories going on at once throughout the book, which keeps it interesting. There is a twist near the end that totally blew me away. The ending was a bit 'out there' for me but overall I loved every bit of this book and plan to read it again. Anyone who has an interest in philosophy, human history, or just interesting stories will like this book. I also enjoyed this book because the characters are not American and the story does not take place in America. New perspectives are always a good thing for me, and Sophie's World is a marvelous window to see the world through.

Start to a Beautiful trilogy, Jun 15 2004
I recently finished the 3rd book of the CWG trilogy and loved it just as much as the other two. Book 1 is obviously what hooked me. I must warn any hardcore religious fanatics that this book is NOT RELIGIOUS. The subject matter here is life and the entire book reads as a conversation with god (hence the name). I love this book mainly because it offers practical advice and knowledge for dealing with questions that philosophers can only guess at... how does the universe work? Is there heaven and hell? why is there 'evil'? ..... and on and on. If your mind is open enough and your beliefs flexible enough then this book and the 2 others in the series offer very practical and real insight into the past, present, and future of the human race...although the books also reveal that time is an illusion. So if you are ready to question everything you have learned, then start here!!

Classic!!, Jun 5 2004
I love Jessica's music. She is probably one of the only artists I listen to that has a more happy 'poppy' sound. All the lyrics on this album are catchy and the music is perfect for a clear summer day. Jessica's voice is easy and soothing. Sure this could be considered pop, but I love it and am not ashamed to admit it. Jessica rocks!!

Good Stuff!!, Jun 5 2004
I am usually not a fan of teen girl singers, but Jessica is my exception. This album has a very happy feel to it although there are some slow songs. I love Jessica's voice...she can show her power without shouting and expresses emotions very well. I consider this a 'pop' album but it is good and I have all of Jessica's other releases as well. If you enjoy feel-good-pop-country then you ought to give Jessica a listen.
