5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful quirky British show set on a fictional island in ..., July 15 2014
A wonderful quirky British show set on a fictional island in the Caribbean. We originally starting watching the third season that was being broadcast with a new DI. So now we are catching up with season 1 and 2 and find out what happened.

The show has an excellent cast, it is well written and acted. Each story has twists and turns. While it is a procedural drama the endings are not as predictable as some similar North American police TV shows. The peppering of humour and family character building makes the show's murder investigations seem more realistic.

Well worth the money and time spent watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting short movies of early BR service., May 31 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I enjoyed this 2 disc set of 4 short documentary movies. A lot of the footage was stock shots dating back many years. It showed the steam and the early diesel electric eras. As an adult learning about this bygone era it was informative, as a model railway builder it gave me great ideas for my BR layout. They informed you about the rise and fall of steam and the the BR system as a whole.

The reason I took off one star was that it was designed to be educational, therefore it wasn't too captivating too watch, it lacked all the modern "pizzazz" that is now used to keep the younger ones attention. Also, some of the footage was repeated in the different documentaries so while the voice overs were different you recognised the video they were using.

Other than that it was an excellent video source for me to reference and too watch when I need a shot of BR steam!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant as always!, Aug. 24 2013

Love the show, love the DVD. Without the commercials the B&W stills with percussion hit between acts in the episode is a little dramatic, but they are there for broadcast reasons.

The extras were great I did miss a gag reel, especially for such an intense season. As always the final cliffhanger leaves you waiting for season 11....

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Introduction especially for a model railroader!, Aug. 24 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent guide to the main manufacturers and producers of American Diesel and Modern American Electric locomotives. For someone like me who did not work with the real beasts and is relatively new to the model train world, it is a wonderful reference guide. Informative, good pictures and great ideas for what your layouts might like to look like.
(It does contain any how to on modeling, it deals with the real locomotives only)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great handy reference guide to British Diesels, May 20 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A very handy book with many pictures of the older British diesels. As a model railroader I found it a useful guide for setting, appearance and backstory about the multiple locomotives. The only drawback I found was that all the photograghs were in Black and White. While this is artistically pleasing, some colour shots would have helped with the realism.
Clear, well written and not cluttered with lots of technical specs. (which are easily found on the web) It complimented my locomotive reference collection very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars The last season..., Jan. 6 2012
This dvd set completes the trilogy. This series had various leads come and go, but the main 2 vampires lasted through the series. My wife and I found the series to be wrapped up reasonably well, the stories were well written and acted.
I had not seen many of the episodes for many years and they were not too dated, as long as you didn't compare vehicles and downtown Toronto to that of today..(2012) It was nice to see the A&A's and SAM'S lights again..
Before there was Buffy, True Blood or Twilight, this series told stories that involved people vampires and events rather than teen angst or vampire lore. The time flashbacks were used to develop the current stories and charactor development not to show off the techno-wizardry like a lot of todays shows.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Silly Romp for the Adult who Liked the 80's Action Movies, Jan. 21 2011
Somebody had an idea, let dig up all the old action guys from the 80's and throw them together in one last blow-em-up movie.
Apparently there was a plot, but does anyone really care? Rambo meets Commando, meets Die Hard, and Dolph meets any Jet Li movie... etc. Conmpletely unbelievable stunts performed by guys who apparently have superhuman abilities romp through some poor 3rd world nation complete with a damsel in distress. If this is your thing, you will like this one, if not keep walking.
One highlight was the outakes, they were quite hilarious. Apparently the actors and directors didn't take it too seriously either.
A good laugh, a violent laugh, but still a good laugh.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sit at Home Read, Jan. 21 2011
This review is from: Third Cadfael Omnibus (Paperback)
Great book, and since you cannot seem to get them as individual novels anymore, this is the only way to buy the ones that you missed while reading them separately. This collection is nicely bound and printed. It is a good sit at home read, not so good for reading on the train, bus or public transit as it is bulky.
An excellent author with an excellent story telling style. Worth the purchase and the read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Got it to Complete the Set, Jan. 21 2011
This review is from: Family Guy: It's a Trap (DVD)
Like a lot of sequels, it is okay, but not great. Maybe the bloom is off the rose, or the humour was too repetitive from the previous 2 Star Wars spoofs, but we thought that they "mailed this performance in".
It has funny moments, it has slow moments, and it generally hangs together but it lacks the crispness of the previous two Family Guy "treks" through the Star Wars movies. I have heard that they will not be spoofing the first 3 episodes of Star Wars, and that is probably a good thing.
It is good to have the complete the set of three and it made us laugh through most of it. If you don't want it, rent it and save your money.
