1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS VINYL PRESSING, Feb. 26 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
the album Pretty Hate Machine is somewhere between 4 and 5 stars in rating if you ask me. I've owned a cd copy of this since the mid 90's when I about 10 years old. I've listened to this album close to 1,000 times probably, so when I saw it on vinyl for such a nice price I said why not. so I got it in the mail and put on my turntable right away (LP-60). the first song Head Like A Hole is classic and as it went to the first chorus it started to skip and I didn't stop skipping. so I did a little research on the internet about this and the news is this Pretty Hate Machine vinyl pressing is terrible. Trent actually warned his fans about this releases, the vinyl will skip on most record players (maybe it won't on really high end ones) the record sounds like trash as well, there's another pressing on this album with a bonus track which I probably won't buy for it's at a crazy price.

with all that said go buy the cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars all 5 albums are 5 star albums, May 1 2014

the packaging is a little cheap on these 5 Classic Albums series. it's basically an ugly box with 5 cd's in it all in little cardboard slipcases. no extra artwork but the covers (even the back of the slipcases lack) and no notes of anything. for the price it's alright but not worth much more.

the music on these albums in 5 stars since these are really 5 classic albums.
Merle Haggard is classic country and anyone looking for that will be pleased.

tips of advice.

lift the lid off while still running, so you don't leave marks on the disc from the pads.

use white pads with yellow cream and then spray disc with water for one last cycle.

some discs aren't fixable... any holes or things that can go through the disc aren't fixable, or any snag like scratches. use yellow pads with red cream first if scratches are deeper and let the machine scratch your disc even more in the pattern it does. then use white/yellow.

change your pads after every couple discs to get the like new look to them (if you don't care about that and just want okay shape discs with buffing wheel marks then use the pads until they break)

great for cd's with very minor faults, truthfully they turn into LIKE NEW! Awesome for pawn shop shopping.

rebuff cd's over and over for best looking cd's to get that LIKE NEW look.

blue pads are pretty useless unless you just want to take off fingerprints.

this is an awesome product, but it might take you awhile to learn how to make them look totally mint. I know I can. buy this machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Airport 5 meets Vampire On Titus, Jan. 17 2012
Well here it is the new GBV album. I remember 2004 buying Half Smiles of the Decomposed thinking that was it for Guided By Voices, listened to it over and over in my high school years, along with many other albums from Pollard. See the thing was after that album i didn't care if there would ever be another Guided By Voices album, Robert Pollard released solo album and made new bands. Since 2004 Robert Pollard has released over 11 solo albums, and started new bands like the amazing Boston Spaceships, also still releasing many albums with Circus Devils. So it's 7/8 years later, i've got over 60 albums with Robert Pollard. It's time... LET'S GO EAT THE FACTORY. This is the new GBV album, back with the Bee Thousand line-up and it's back to the lo-fi sound you heard from the albums from that time period, does it rank up with Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes? NO. Does it rank up there with Under The Bushes, Under The Stars? Maybe. This is more like Airport 5 (Tobin Sprout & Pollard) mixed with Vampire on Titus. It has it's charm and is well worth getting, i pre-ordered mine so i got it early from Rockathan. It's like if you're a fan, why haven't you got this yet? But if you're new to the band get Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, and Under The Bushes, Under The Stars first. It's only really a 4 star album, unlike those 5 star ones. The extra star is for the fact that the second GBV album of this year comes out in May and they're recording the follow up to that right now, three Guided By Voices albums (along with a solo Robert Pollard in March). Keep Putting Records Out!

5.0 out of 5 stars my friend asked me what kind of music is this, i simply said good music, March 2 2008

this cd is amazing, as is most of the music of Drag City records.
it's like laid back folky countrist kind of music, dual vocals male/female.

just buy it already.

1.0 out of 5 stars is this a joke?, March 2 2008
This review is from: Zeitgeist (Audio CD)
Sure it will sell more units than his solo album of 2005 and the Zwan, album. But is that the joke? Write a horrible album, slap the familiar name on it and sell. This album is bad!

the single Tarantula is basically Geek Rock U.S.A redone
and i haven't heard a second single.

i bought this album the day i came out. i bought adore and machina on they're release dates too, along with the Corgan solo album.
But i will never by another Pumpkins cd cause of this piece of trash.

Billy should of just reworked songs from the Aeroplane flies high box set.

i'm a huge fan of Julie Doiron as a solo artist and her work in the 90's with Eric's Trip. I try to see her everytime she comes to my city, got to see for the tour of this album, she played with Calvin Johnson. This album starts with with a surprise... It's Eric Trip again!!! well not really but all members are playing on it. Rick White produced this one. As for the music it's electric folk, fans of Cat Power, Thao, or maybe even Feist will love this forsure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joe Lally (bassist), Feb. 28 2008
This review is from: Nothing Is Underrated (Audio CD)
you might of heard of Joe Lally as the bassist and what a bassist of the band Fugazi, this is his second solo album. It's very laid back, with the bass in the front. Some songs are just bass and voices maybe some drums. Guy Picciotto does some guitar, and Ian Mackaye produced the album. Well since Fugazi isn't releases albums right now you got to pick Joe Lally's work and The Evens which is Ian's new project, also Brendan is drumming on the new Bob Mould albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars if i could 4.5 stars., Feb. 28 2008
This review is from: Women As Lovers (Audio CD)
well this album just came out in jan/08 i believe. Heard a download off the Kill Rock Stars website for the song I Do What I Want, When I Want and decided to purchase this fine album, well when i got it first listened to i thought it was alright but with repeat listens it's getting better and better as i start to understand it a little more, each song really does have it's own feel and as an album it holds together very nicely, a great release, worth checking out.
