5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Biography of Jim Morrison, July 5 2004
I have not read any other bios on Jim although I know there are quite a few books on his life however, I believe this is probably the most accurate so far. I read this book a long time ago and I remember being mesmerized from the first to page to the last. Danny Sugerman (who worked for The Doors for a long time) was not an only an associate but a close friend to Jim and he was able to achieve what very few people ever could: Get to know who the real Jim Morrison was. This book not only talks about his life and career but also talks in great length of the human side of Morrison as well. NO ONE HERE GETS OUT ALIVE, is an almost day to day account of Jim's life from his birth to his untimely and very mysterious death in Paris in 1971. It also talks in great detail about his poetry and the things that interest him the most like films, psychology, philosophy, sex and death. This is a great read and is never dull or boring. The only downside to this book is that the print is too small. It would a good idea if they can publish the same book with a larger print. The book also includes several pages of photographs of Jim and the band and with the woman that he called his "muse" Pamela Courson who was Jim's girlfriend from the time that that the band was being formed right up till the end of his life. Again, I would like to say that this is a great book for anyone who has ever been interested in knowing about Jim Morrison, who he was and what he became and what most of all wanted to become. I highly recommended is a very good book about a man an artist who died way too young who lived life so on the edge that found life itself impossible to bare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strangely Beautiful as is eccentric and erotic, July 5 2004
I like this movie for many things but mainly because of its frankness and eccentricity. One of the highlights that makes this movie great is without a doubt Maria Schneider's revealing nude scenes (...). She is also very pretty, however getting serious for a moment this film was in 1973 when it was release and still today a milestone in filmmaking largely due to Marlon Brando's outstanding performance. He really was one of the greatest actors of all times and his performance in Last Tango in Paris more than proves it. I really like the chemistry that both Brando and Scheneider had together through out the movie but especially in their key scenes together. Marlon Brando sadly enough passed away on July 1, in Los Angeles due to lung failure he was 80. Lucky for all of the people (myself included) who admired and appreciated his great talent as an actor, he left us a thrilling and fantastic collection of wonderful performances that are forever capture on film for all of us to enjoy time and time again. Anyone who is not aware of the contribution that this legendary actor left on American Cinema can begin by either renting or buying some of his most dynamic movies (All of them are available on DVD or VHS). These are my personal favorites and in which feature some of his greatest performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Doors at Their Psychedelic Best, Jun 26 2004
This review is from: The Soft Parade (Audio CD)
This album has receive in the past and still to this day a lot of negative feedback. I realize that everyone has the right to voice their own opinion but I actually like this album. The Doors were experimenting with a lot of new and different sounds on THE SOFT PARADE and is clear that they were trying to perhaps confuse their listeners and they succeeded I believe but this album has a strong dosage of blues, rock and even a little funk but overall is a very well crafted album and the songs are very original and they are all very different. This album is perhaps the strangest that band had recorded up to that point but that doesn't diminish the great quality of the music contained herein. TELL ALL THE PEOPLE, is perhaps my favorite track on the album and I really like Jim Morrison's voice on this one, it is very clear and direct. TOUCH ME, was ofcourse the album's big hit and a great song to listen to this one is definately a Doors classic. WISHFUL SINFUL is another great song in which Jim's voice is really good as is the rest of the band. EASY RIDE, I think is really funny, I laugh sometimes when I listen to it and it is not out of disrepect to The Doors by any means but that is my take on the song, it is fast and has a strong country feel to it. RUNNIN BLUE, is another good one and a bit funny as well but still a good song. The album title song THE SOFT PARADE, is a real trip to listen to like Jim says in the beginning "this is the best part of the trip, the part I really like, proud to be a part of this number". Is a cool and long song to listen to. Finally I would just like to add that this may not have been The Doors best selling album or their greatest masterpiece but with all the negative reviews that it has receive in the past, THE SOFT PARADE still stands as one of The Doors most original and eloquentely conceived recordings. A must for any Doors fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Charming and Romantic, Jun 26 2004
This review is from: Mr. Jones (DVD)
This is a pretty good movie I thought. Richard Gere plays Mr.Jones a man who suffers from manic depression who has suicidal tendencies. When I saw it I thought this is one of Richard Gere's best performances in a long time. He really did a great job and it is probably the best acting that I've seen him do in quite awhile. Lena Olin is also very good as the psychiatrist who takes an interest in him both as a patient and in the personal sense. I really liked this movie and have added to my movie collection. It is one of those rare movies that you can see just about anytime. Overall is a good movie but if you need more convincing than that then see it beause of Richard Gere he is excellent in this film and that should be reason enough I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good movie with excellent performances, Jun 3 2004
This review is from: Earthly Possessions (DVD)
This is a good road movie, I really enjoyed it. What makes this movie good is without a doubt the great acting from its two stars. Susan Sarandon and Stephen Dorff are excellent in their roles as kidnapper and hostage. The movie is also funny at times and very serious at times which I really like. Stephen Dorff is a very good actor and if he keeps doing roles like this one he could very easily follow in the steps of Johnny Depp which is one of my favorite actors. Susan Sarandon is always good and this film is really worth the time again the acting is excellent and is the reason to see this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie, one of Ms. Stapleton finest roles, Jun 2 2004
I just saw this movie last night for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I bought the DVD because it seemed like a very good movie with a terrific cast and I couldn't agree more. Maureen Stapleton is excellent in this film and she plays Bea Asher, the recently widowed wife with great warmth and sincerity. She even sings in this movie and she does it very well I think. She is also a wonderful dancer who makes ballroom dancing very interesting to watch and learn. Charles Durning is also great in this fantastic movie and they both have great chemistry together. QUEEN OF THE STARDUST BALLROOM, is a magical film and the acting of both Stapleton and Durning is superb. I couldn't help feeling a little sad in the end (I won't tell you so I won't spoil the movie for you). However this is a wonderful movie and it shows that you're never too old to fall in love and follow your heart. They certainly don't make movies like this anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her voice is exquisite like no other, April 26 2004
This review is from: First 10 Years (Audio CD)
What I have always love about Joan Baez is her exquisite and crystal clear voice. She is a dream to listen to and her songs fit her vocal range just perfect. This album is excellent all the way through and the songs included on the CD is the best of her repertoire from 1960 to 1970, which is why the album is called THE FIRST TEN YEARS. All of the songs on this collection are great but there are six tracks that are truly wonderful and is why I bought this album aside from the fact that she has a beautiful voice. The songs that I love from this great recording are "Ghetto", "If I Were A Carpenter", "If I Knew", "No Expectations" (which is a cover of the Stones original and she sounds far better than Mick on this one.) "Sweet Sir Galahad" and "Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word". They are all excellent and as I said before perfect for her glorious soprano voice. This is a great album to have and enjoy for many years to come and if you're a Joan Baez fan than this one is a must for your collection. GREAT and EXHILIRATING.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Carly Simon Classic, her best album I believe, April 14 2004
This review is from: Boys in the Trees (Audio CD)
This is in my opinion Carly Simon at her peak. Her best album ever I think. Every song is a timeless classic and her voice is excellent and crystal clear. The musicians that played on this album are also very good adding their own classic touch with their instruments in the background and letting Carly's voice take center stage as it should be. James Taylor who at this time was still married to Carly also lends his unique and soulful voice and guitar to this classic album.

"You Belong To Me" is a soulful classic even to this day which is still being played on FM radio. Carly co-wrote this song with Doobie Brothers lead singer and keyboard player Michael McDonald.
Every song on this CD deserves honorable mention because they are all great. After this album was release in 1978, Carly Simon never achieved the same level of success in her recordings and has never recorded another album as superior as this one. She still is a great songwriter and fine singer but she is definately not what she used to be. In the 1970's I don't think there was another female singer more successful than Carly. There was Linda Ronstadt and Joni Mitchell as well as Carole King and Phoebe Snow and Olivia Newton John but Carly was always ahead of all of them. For what is worth for Carly fans that like to remember her when she was in her prime both as a singer and songwriter this album is the best of its kind and should be included in the music collection of not only her fans but anyone in general who appreciates beautiful music that was back then in 1978, ahead of its time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feliciano is brilliant as usual a must JF fans, Mar 23 2004
This review is from: Jose Feliciano (DVD)
This is a fantastic package a beautiful CD with songs from two of Jose's great spanish albums from the 80's, followed by an excellent live performance from Chile in 1984. Feliciano is always a joy to watch and listen to, he is in my opinion one of the most verstile and gifted entertainers the world has ever known.

Jose has always been a highly underrated artist (I don't know why this is) however he is a fantastic singer with an incredible smooth and silky voice who has been capturing the hearts of music lovers since the 1960's. Add to the fact that he is without a doubt one of the greatest guitar players that's ever live. Jose Feliciano is the real thing what you see is what you get and this CD/DVD package is of excellent quality in both picture and sound. Feliciano is an artist in a class all by himself he is a rare breed that only comes along once in a lifetime. Just like Elvis and The Beatles, there is only one Jose Feliciano and there will never be another one like him.

You will not be dissapointed when you see this excellent CD/DVD. This is the best Feliciano package to come along in many years. As opposed to other artists and groups who need to rely on special gimmicks and massive publicity to let themselves be known, (lucky for us) we have a brilliant musician like Jose Feliciano who can light up any stage in the world with just his voice and guitar. AMAZING!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a classic but still a good album, Mar 19 2004
This review is from: Draw The Line (Audio CD)
By the time "Draw The Line" was release in December of 1977, the members of Aerosmith were going thru severe problems in their career mostly due to the alarming rate that their drug addiction was taking. Still compare to the music that the band is doing today this is a pretty good record considering all of the problems that they were going thru at the time. Joe Perry actually call this record their "blackout album" because both he and Steven Tyler were so wasted during the recording sessions that they would literally black out (pass out) in the studio.

This album has a few songs that are worth mentioning I feel. Perhaps my favorite on the album is "Kings and Queens" a medieval ballad with an incredible piano arrangement. Another song that I like is ofcourse the album's title track "Draw The Line" which in reality was the only hit to come out of this record. I have never been able to understand what Steven is saying in the middle of the song because he does nothing but scream to the top of his lungs, I can only hear the beginning before the screaming starts where he says "checkmate don't be late". Even with all that screaming it is still a great classic from Aerosmith.

"Milk Cow Blues" is a remake that they did for this album and it sounds very nice I think. The other songs on the album are just fillers I believe, but as I said before compare this album to the albums that Aerosmith has been doing since about 1990 and "Draw The Line" would be defined as a classic Aerosmith album. I'm sorry but I just can't get into their music now. I don't know why they had to go and change their style. In the 1970's even with all the drugs and all the problems that plauged their career Aerosmith was in my opinion the greatest American rock band in the world. I find it sad that they have never been able to sound as good as they did in the 70's. "Draw The Line" like I said in the title of this review is not a classic but still a good album.
