Don't buy this!, Aug 14 2001
I love the old Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce adventures. Actually, I own all of them on VHS, so when they were going to be released on DVD I quickly placed an order. To say that this is a disappointment is to put it mildly. First off, the movie quality is incredibly bad. Sound and visual is all a mess. And in the "restoration" they have edited key scenes! A great example is in Terror By Night when they don't introduce us to Watson's friend (Who plays an important part later). The VHS copies I have of the old films show that there are prints out there of high quality. It's too bad they just didn't transfer those prints to DVD as compared to this mess they created from the old stock.... If you enjoy these films, avoid these DVDs and head over to the VHS editions released by Key Video.

Let Lucas Be, Feb 22 2000
To be honest, I am really getting sick of reading negative reviews against this movie. It seems people almost feel it's cool to dish this film. Frankly, it just comes off in my opinion in poor taste... but since I am in the review section I have to say something of more substance. George Lucas is in the process of creating new myths with his Star Wars films and I believe to compare it to the other three films is unfair. When this series is done all the speculation and debate over what he was trying to do wih the films will be answered. Until then we can only guess what things mean and what is the best film in the series. Who knows? An incredibly minor point in this film might explain something in the third movie which would link it to Return of the Jedi... This is George Lucas' world and I enjoy being a part of it from time to time. So let's enjoy them for what they are. Good stories told by an exceptional storyteller.

Best Album of the year, Dec 16 1999
I clearly remember the first time I heard the song "Sweetest Decline." I was driving home from work and it came on WYCE. I had never heard of Beth Orton until that moment. I was stunned by it. I pulled my car over to the side of the road and sat in awe of the beauty escaping out of my car's speakers. One hour later I owned the CD.Everyone I have played this CD for has purchased it shortly after. Beth Orton is not only a singer, but a poet. I recommend buying this album and then keeping it close. You won't regret it.

Where is the Woody Allen we once knew?, Dec 16 1999
I grew up a Woody Allen fan. I never thought I would see once of his works that could possibly turn me away... Well, that was until I saw this film. With a background in literature I do know what Woody was trying to say in the film (So please don't write a review trying to explain it to me), but couldn't he have done it without such perverse and disturbing plot twists? The sad thing is when you finish seeing this film you begin to think of his other films... For example, how many films deal with prostitutes (pretty much all of them) and how many contain people with little sexual self-control (pretty much all of them). That's a problem. I wish there was a way I could go back and not see this film and remember Woody as the man who created The Purple Rose of Cairo, Love And Death, Radio Days, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and Hannah and Her Sisters.

The Demise of Literature, Dec 16 1999
If anyone wants stronger proof of the demise of literature I point to the five stars that 72 people gave to a Stephen King book. I weep for the future of literature.

In the beginning..., Dec 16 1999
I find that the saddest thing today when I talk to people about Ben Folds Five is how few know about this first CD. This is one of the finest CDs of the 1990's. I highly recommend it. "My Philosophy" is my favorite track on the CD. Buy it!

BNL at their best, Dec 16 1999
This is the best album made by Barenaked Ladies. It's not only witty and fun but also filled with many creative and musical experiments. Another note is you can hear many of their musical influences on this CD. A great example of that is "Everything Old is New Again" which sounds very much like The Beatles.... A must have CD.

One of the best, Dec 10 1999
The first time I saw this film was probably one of my greatest experiences in a movie theater. I didn't know what to expect and every scene and line was a delight and a surprise. The theme of the movie is great and very justified today- logic vs. Imagination. I'm on the side of Imagination and the Baron. I highly recommend this film and on DVD it is beautiful. Buy it!

Incredible Movie, Dec 10 1999
This has to be one of the finiest romantic-comedies ever made. Amazing and full of life. I look forward to the day it is out on DVD in widescreen...However, one special note to first time viewers. See the subtitled version, not the dubbed version. The voices they chose for the dubbing are all wrong. Keep with the original.
