This is an amazing story, and one that truly needed to be told. It just amazes me (movie AND short story) how even-handed and well put together the whole thing is without being heavy handed and sappy. The author and Ang Lee really hit the nail on the head with this one. And anyone who has read up on the West and what went on will tell you that this how things were and are. Does anyone remember the song "Frankie and Johnnie?" It was made to sound like it was a man and a woman, but in actuality it was REALLY two men. Duh? Frankie and Johnnie? Think about it. But aside from these facts, even if the film and short story weren't based in some truths it would still be great. I'm normally one to go with some bestselling pageturner such as McCrae's "Katzenjammer" but decided to check this out instead. Glad I did. Enjoy.
