3.0 out of 5 stars great musical score, May 30 2009
i have no doubt that if i had seen this when it first came out in
1980,it would have scared the crap out of me.in the present day
though,i didn't find it scary, mainly because i have seen so many
horror/slasher movies since then.this movie is hardly graphic or
shocking at all compare to today's feature film, and even some TV
shows, for that matter.however,i will say really enjoyed the musical
score by Henry Manfredini, who must have been influenced strongly by
Bernard Herman, who scored Psycho.i believe Kevin bacon makes his big
screen debut here, but i could be wrong.the acting for this type of
movie is fine, although i have to single out Betsy Palmer for really
standing out.this movie spawned,i believe,10 sequels,all differing in
quality.my vote for Friday the 13th is a 3/5

3.0 out of 5 stars slightly better than the original, May 30 2009
for me,this sequel to the original was just slightly better, and only
because there is some suspense in this one.i don't think the first one
had any.if it did there was very little.otherwise,it's not that much
different, just a different group of people that end up getting
slaughtered.there are no acting stand outs in this one,but i get the
feeling that Amy Steel was supposed to be the next big thing.this movie
was slightly more graphic than the original, but not much.there's a bit
of nudity, and one instance of the F word being used, but that's it for
coarse language and nudity,as far as far as i can tell.for me,Friday
the 13th Part 2 is a 3/5

2.0 out of 5 stars mundane and boring, May 30 2009
i remember watching this movie way back when it first came out on VHS
video.it was the first horror movie i had ever seen, and it scared the
crap out of me.i had nightmares for days.but, that was then, this is
now.this time,around,i wasn't scared.in fact i found the movie to be
boring in parts.plus, this movie was originally filmed in 3D,so it looks
gimmicky(and annoying)when viewed in 2D,since there are no 3D glasses
with it.and there is no option to view it without the 3D.(since then a
3D version has come out).this particular edition is part of the 5 disc
box set From Crystal Lake to Manhattan and features the first 8 movies
in the series, along with a bonus disc of special features.anyway,to
me,this movie is a bit more mundane than the previous 2.plus,Jason(the
killer)swaggers around like a macho man, which is laughable.my vote for
Friday the 13th Part III is a 2/5

3.0 out of 5 stars great ending, May 30 2009
this fourth entry in the series is actually not too bad.i liked it a
bit better than the other 3,mainly because of the ending, which was
pretty climactic, unlike many movies.plus,it was better paced.this one
features a 12 year old Corey Feldman,but i still liked it.it pretty
much follows the familiar formula of the last 3.it's called the Final
Chapter, but if you've followed the series at all,you know it isn't.it
probably was going to be,but then the filmmakers realized they had a
cash cow on their hands, and couldn't pass up the opportunity to keep
churning them out.whether that's good or bad is a matter of opinion.in
any case,my vote for Friday the 13th:The Final Chapter is a 3/5

3.0 out of 5 stars part 5 (2.9/5), May 30 2009
this fifth entry in the series has an interesting twist that is hinted
subtly(or maybe not subtly)a few times throughout the movie.i liked the
ending to part 4:The Final Chapter, but i liked this ending even
more.otherwise, there's not much straying from the familiar formula
mined in the last 4.masked psycho slaughters several people for no
apparent reason.some of the characters in this one are just plain
unlikable,or stupid.once again the acting is nothing special, but then
again, that's to be expected when your characters are merely plot
devices, and nothing more.for me,this movie wasn't as good as the
fourth.my vote for Friday the 13th-Part 5:A new Beginning is a 2.9/5

3.0 out of 5 stars he's back (2.9/5), May 30 2009
int this 6th installment of the series,Jason once again stalks,
campers, counselors and any one else foolish enough to get in his
way.there is not much new in this installment, although there are some
exciting moments,particularly the climatic ending.and there is a clue(a
small clue, but a clue)about why he is so unstoppable and never seems to
stay dead,and why he kills.unlike a lot of people,i don't hate these
Friday the 13th movies.sure they are redundant for the most part, but i
still get a kick out of seeing Jason in the mask dispatching his
victims.i think it's because the character is so iconic, like
Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series,or Michael Myers from
the Halloween franchise.i thought this movie was as good as part 5:A
new Beginning,but then what do i know.for me,Friday the 13th Part
VI:Jason Lives is a 2.9/5

3.0 out of 5 stars has Jason finally met his match? 2.8/5, May 30 2009
it seems like it.but(as usual)he certainly leaves a lot of carnage in
his wake before that point.will this be the end for our psycho in the
hockey mask?maybe, maybe not.after all,Jason is an unstoppable killing
machine.this 7th installment is decent enough, but slower than the other
6.Terry Kiser is in this one in a serious role, which he does very
well.Lar park Lincoln also stars.there is one really unlikable
character here who i couldn't wait to see killed.as for Jason,it's nice
for him to have an adversary who might be his equal or more
powerful.did i like this installment?sure,i did.the only thing i didn't
like was the slow pace, like i mentioned.it's pretty much that way
through most of the movie.but it's not quite boring.all in all,i give
Friday the 13th Part 7 a 2.8/10

2.0 out of 5 stars boring, May 30 2009
this is one boring movie.i had to fight from turning it off before the
end.there are a couple of funny moments,particularly the reaction(or
rather non reaction)of the New Yorkers to Jason.mostly though, the movie
is just silly.i guess most of the movies in the series are silly, but
this movie is silly even in the confines of the series.for me,it's the
worst one of the first 8.but that's just me.my vote for Friday the 13th
Part VIII:Jason takes Manhattan is a 2/5

2.0 out of 5 stars part 9 (2.4/5), May 30 2009
this ninth movie is in the Friday the 13th series, pretty much ignores
the previous ones.sure,it's still Jason, and he still psychopath with a
hockey mask.but otherwise there isn't a lot of similarity.for one
thing,in this one they offer an explanation for his unstoppable
evil.it's an interesting explanation, but it adds things to the lore
that were not in the previous movies, except fro a very brief hint in
the 6th or 7th one,i can't recall which.anyway,this movie starts off
very promising, but loses traction and end up becoming boring save for a
few exciting moments.i viewed the unrated version and it's pretty
graphic in its violence.i thought this was slightly better than the
previous effort,Jason Takes Manhattan,but only slightly.for me,Jason
goes to Hell is a 2.4/5

3.0 out of 5 stars where no Friday the 13th movie has gone before (2.6/5), May 30 2009
this 10th installment in the never ending Friday the 13th series of
films is is a blend of science fiction, action adventure and comedy.it's
set in space in the year 2455,and is pretty much ignores the rest of
the films, other than still having a hockey masked Jason slaughtering
people.it's somewhat entertaining,and funny on occasion,with a fair
amount of action.and Jason gets an upgrade of sorts,so that was kinda
interesting.it also has its slow moments where it's a bit too talky.and
i feel the acting in this one is worse than in any of the others.but
the idea to set it in space is fairly novel,if nothing else.for me,this
10 movie in the series gets a 2.6/5
