works well as a straight action movie, April 18 2011
i actually enjoyed this movie based on a Saturday Night Live character.most movies based on an SNL character don't work too well.but this one worked,at least in my opinion.it's billed as a comedy/ action film.i didn't think it was overly funny, though there were some amusing moments.for me,the movie worked as a straight action film.i found it entertaining on that level.if it had been made and marketed as a straight action film,it may have done better at the box office.never having seen the SNL character the movie is based,it's hard to say how funny the character was on the show.all i know is,i was entertained for 90 or so minutes. for me,MacGruber is a 3/5

great cg animated film from Disney, April 18 2011
i thought this was a great cg animated film from Disney.it's one of the best animated film i have seen in a long time.the colours are vibrant, the animation is excellent.i liked all the characters.the songs were all good.i liked the story.i thought it was well written.it's also a fast paced movie.kids and adults alike should enjoy this film.it's basically about Rapunzel the girl with the really long golden blond hair.it's rated PG for some brief mild violence,so it might be a bit too much for the really young kids.parents should use their discretion of course.generally, though it's a movie the family can enjoy.for me,Tangled is a 5/5

would you push the button?, April 18 2011
in this film James Marsden and Cameron Diaz play a couple barely making ends meet who receive a box on their doorstep.they then receive a visit from a mysterious stranger(Frank Langella)who tells them if if they push the button the on the box,two things will happen.first, someone they don't know will die.second they will receive a million dollars in cash.of course, there is much more going on that that.this is certainly an interesting and original premise as far as i know.it's based on a short story by Richard Matheson, called,Button,Button.the movie certainly is thought provoking, and makes you think.i thought it was very well done.for me,The Box is a 4/5

not quite as exciting as the original film, April 18 2011
while i found this film to be very good,i didn't think it was quite as good as the original.the film follows the same formula as the original, but takes longer to get going found it a bit slow going-in some parts, and it wasn't quite as exciting.the first film was thrilling from almost start too finish.whereas this film wasn't. get me wrong.there are still some thrilling moments, just not as many as as i had hoped or expected.plus, there were a few absurd moments even in the context of the film.still,it is entertaining and worth watching.this time around,Ed Harris joins the cast as does Helen Mirren who adds some class to the film.for me,National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a 3/5

not Your Grandfather's Sherlock Holmes, April 18 2011
this is not your Grandfather's Sherlock Holmes.this Sherlock Holmes is just as much of an intellectual, but also shows a physical prowess.he isn't afraid to get down and dirty.he's also much more liberal in his thinking than previous incarnations.he's not so staid and stoic about things.and there's no deerstalker cap here.Watson is also shown to have quite the intellectual prowess himself.he's also handy physically.guy Ritchie directed this film, and did a good job.my only complaint is that the movie drags in a few spots and i feel it could have been shortened.overall, though a fine effort.for me,Sherlock Holmes (2009)is a 4/5

altitude, April 18 2011
i liked this movie.its not completely original, but than again most movies today aren't.i liked the tense atmosphere it had.it also has some moments that get your adrenaline pumping.the acting was pretty good,in my opinion.there's not much in the way of character development here, since the movie jumps right into the action fairly quickly.but that didn't bother me in this picture.you get enough of sense of each person as the story goes along.the music is not memorable at all,and i'm not sure if that's good or bad.overall, this was not a bad movie.in fact,i'd say it's pretty decent, especially for a lazy weekend, when you have nothing else going on.for me,Altitude (2010)is a 3/5

one big fun fest, April 18 2011
this is one movie that's not for the squeamish or the faint of heart.there's tons of gore and blood in this one.lots of severed bodies.lots of nudity too.and a fair amount of strong language.the whole movie is over the top, including the acting.i'm pretty sure it was intentional.it's not meant to be taken seriously.if you try and view it as a serious film, you will be disappointed.there are some thrilling, nail biting moments though.but really it just a one big fun fest.there are some funny lines through the movie.it's like Jaws on steroids, the fun version.i wouldn't recommend it to everyone though.for me,Piranha (2010)is a 4/5

Piranha Part Two: The Yawning, April 18 2011
this movie marks James Cameron's feature length film debut,(he also wrote the screenplay)and i gotta say,it's not good.unlike the first movie, which did not take itself seriously, this one is played straight, and that is its major failing.it's just too ridiculous too be taken seriously.plus,i found it to be one ginormous snooze fest.i really had to force myself to stay awake,in the hope that the movie would improve.sadly,it was all in vain.there's almost zero tension in the film.maybe if they had at least tried to inject some comedic elements in to it,it would have been more bearable.i can't in good conscience recommend this one.however,i have seen worse than this.for me,Piranha Part Two: The Spawning is a 2/5

fun times, April 18 2011
this actually is not that bad a movie. it's a bit too melodramatic in parts for my taste.and those moments don't fit for me.but mostly it's intentionally cheesy, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.and on that level,it works.the acting actually is not that bad, from both the main character and the supporting players.the extras on the other hand, that,s a different story.i nearly died laughing at some of the death scenes.overall, the movie is fun,and it does get your adrenaline going.i don't think it's a movie that's meant to be taken seriously, and if you approach as a serious piece of work, you will be disappointed.for me,Piranha (1978) is a 3/5

a victim of the over hype machine, Mar 28 2011
i might be in the minority here but i was not blown away by this film.don't get me wrong.i enjoyed, ans it's well made, and has an interesting concept(the art of stealing a person's secrets from their subconscious while they are dreaming.but to me,it didn't(or couldn't) live up to the hype.it has its good point.it isn't boring and the acting is first rate, especially by Leonardo DiCaprio.i liked the look of the film too.many people i know have said it was so complex that they had to watch it more than once to understand it.i don't agree.i didn't find it complex at all.think it's well worth watching, but like i said,It just had too much hype to live up to.but that's just my opinion.for me,Inception is a 3/5
