5.0 out of 5 stars lamp lady, May 26 2004
i saw this film a long time ago, when I was 3 or 4. Of course I didn't know who Ginger rogers was, and the only thing I really remember about her performance is that she puts a lamp shade over her head. well, no wonder I'm not surprised that she brings a smile to my face in all her movies. she's a natural.

This was the first Astaire ROgers film I saw. I saw it on TCM, but only the last ten minutes. Since then, I've not only seen the whole thing, but I've bought it. GInger was never cuter than in Lovely Day, the team was never more seductive then inCheek to Cheek, with Ginger looking as light as a feather. (NIght and Day is a close second) Ginger's rendition of the Piccolino would run the depression out of an undertaker. I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars what a film, May 26 2004
This review is from: Swing Time (VHS Tape)
Wow! what a terrific film. This deffinately among their best. Look at Ginger's face when she finds out that Fred can dance in the PICK YOURSELF UP number. what a look. she truly had the most expressive eyes. the numbers are great. SWING TIME, NEVER GONNA DANCE, and others are great. highly recommended.

one of busby's best.ruby's adorable, alice macmahon is hilarious, and Joand Blendell is wonderful, especially on "forgotten man" Ginger Rogers is Fay Fortune, the rival of those three. (mostly just alice)she sings "we're in the money" in pig latin, and steals every scene she'a in. (about 6) but she's still hilarious.
Ginger: If Mr Brown could see me in clothes... (meaning repesctable clothes of course)
Alice: He wouldn't recongniza ya!

5.0 out of 5 stars early success, May 26 2004
I love this movie for 2 reasons.
1: The friend relationship that Fred and Ginger have. They get along so well and that helped to heighten the chemistry.
2:Ginger's wisecracks. SHe still has that wisecracking-second-lead-chorine type attitude that she would lose in coming pictures. she sings "music makes me" with an adorable smile and swiveling hips.
the best scene is in the cafe, where ginger can't take her mind off food.
"OOH, cookies"
"I'd rather split a banana split 3-way"
"Wanna cookie? Take your choice!"
This is just an early sampling of the greatest dance teams magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic, May 26 2004
who says this movie isn't classic? it's one of the funniest. Ginger somehow manages to be a surprisingly good little girl. (if not 12, then 14 maybe, but who cares?) she should have been nominated for an oscar at least. i don't know how this one made it past the censors untouched! on the train, when Ginger wakes because of the lightning, and Ray MIlland comes down to comfort her in her bed (he doesn't know she's really an adult) we can only imaginge what's going through her mind! and when she presse her cheek against his chest? HOLY MACKERAL! He thinks she's shaking because of the lightning, but we know better, heh heh...
Ginger is also Hilarious with all the looks and wisecracks that she gives. One of the best lines she has is, after being compared to a lightbulb (moths like lightbulbs) when Ray sees a cadet smooch her. He explains ( in another risque conversation!) that she should be careful around the boys, becase they're attracted to her. She replies: I'll try to be a well behaved lightbulb! Also watch for a little tap-dancing on her part, brings back memories of the thirties. But this movie is definately one of my favories dancing or no.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, May 26 2004
this movie is so sweet. After seeing eight preceeding films (all wonderful no doubt)where they squabble, it's so sweet to see them really act like a couple. The scene on the balcony of the Paris apartment, where Fred kisses her is aborable. Not to mention the acting is ducky. It would be easy to overact in a film like this but they pull it off fine. Ginger is a little scene stealer. (what else is new)
