kind of stuck on this one, July 14 2004
For anyone who has more than three PS1 games, your going to need one of these. Now that PS2 is out, these really aren't in demand as much, since many kids are just jumping on the gaming band wagon with the PS2 and have no PS1 games to speak of. For all us others who have been around since the SNES was a baby (me being 16) it is almost a guarantee you'll need, and probably already own one of these. Obviously this is your only choice, and it does what it promises, it saves your games, and will keep them their, inless you wash it (an infuriating mistake.) Unfortuneately, this is a very inconvienant way to store data, since there are only 15 blocks, and many games can take upward of three blcoks just to save one file. Since these aren't in demand in much these days, they're also very cheap. I own about 50 PS games, and hav the saves spread across about 4 memory cards. I found a great deal at target, that can get you three memory cards, just like this one, for the same price as this one. Another alternative to the space dilemma is getting a super memory card, that can have upward of 100 blocks of saving space for just a bit more cash.

not the best place to start, but RE gold for veterans, July 14 2004
Resident evil is one of the longest run PlayStation titles out there. It is really a shame that Gamecube is the exclusive RE platform now, because Playstation always did it best. Since th very birth of PS, there has been resident evil, and RE 3 does not dissapoint. RE 3 puts a great new spin on the series, through the arch super villan nemesis. Nemesis (as you can see from the box art) is a menacing tyrant, much like the tyrants in RE 2 out for the lead character Jill's blood. The great part about this game is the difficulty setting. While they really make no difference, it can give the new gamers to this title a bit more edge, since this is one of the harder RE titles. The thing that makes this game so adicttive to survival horror junkies like myself is the claustrophobic action, Throughout the game you have the idea in the back of your head that nemesis could be, and usually is, behind every corner. For some this good, for some this is bad. Some people enjoy walking through the city for hours and not having to worry about running themselves out of herbs and ammo every ten minutes. However, for most others it adds a great suspensful feeling to the game, and makes you feel more and more like your action do matter a great deal. As for the controls, no one will like them at first. It is sort of an acquired taste that most survival horror games have when ti comes to controls. Since all the camera angles are stationary (it makes the game look better so don't complain) this game utilizes the up arrow as always being forward. Some people seem to understand it better if you explain as being an RC car, whether face south, north, east or west, up wil always drive you forward. There realyl is no way around this configuration, it really is best to dive right in and get used to it, even if it means being massacred five minutes in a bunch of times. In conclusion, I would not pick this RE in particular for anyone new to the series. With the inclusion of nemesis, you are required to make split second decisions, and it will often confuse,a nd ultimately lead to the death of more novice players. If you are new to the series, try RE 2, RE 1 has a few problems present for newer players, but RE 2 is the perfect balance of horror, and simplicity. If your a veteran to RE, look no further for fun, just don't expect it to be a cake walk!

The new capcom poster boy!, July 8 2004
from the makers of the Resident Evil series comes Devil May Cry. Very few video game heros can so poeticly pull off there moves like Dante does. with the use of both a sword AND two guns, you and Dante travel through a haunted castle obliterating everything in your way. This game excels in making you feel like you are Dante. You feel like you can take down any obsticale, and over all you just feel cool! This game's controls are some of the best that i have ever seen. You move fluidly, chop effectively, and juggle enemies to death. The two weapon combo really helps to amp up your combo strings, for example using the sword to slash the enemy into the air, then filling him with a barrage of bullets until they die.The game also has quite a nice way of leveling you up. Through collection os red souls, you can pay to level up Dante's move arsenal. Everything from a power slash to a double jump can be yours, for a price of course! As for the storyline, it is worthy of a movie. You really feel like your accomplishing something when you run around the castle for the cause. Very few video games can pull you around like this one does, it can make you feel sad, angry, it can make you laugh, but over all it makes you feel cool! inc onclusion, this is a must own game for anyone who has ever liked action. The controls are spot on, the storyline is amazing, and you have never felt cooler playing a videogame, BUY IT NOW!

just not the same, July 8 2004
When the first devil may cry was released, the public was blown away. Dante was cool in everyway, he had bad ass moves, even more bad ass weapons, and just new how to give the baddies a hard time. Devil May Cry 2 was looking to be the breakaway hit that surpassed the first in everyway. However, it almost falls short in evry single aspect form the forst game. There only two points that have improved in Devil May Cry 2. the first being the controls of the game, they still say much the same, very fluid and easy to adapt to. I also found it a nice change to have a second playable character. The problem with this character is that her moves are almost exactly the same as Dante's she just moves a bit faster. As for the storyline,...well there really is no storyline. The first Devil May Cry was great because not only did you get to obliterate hoards and hoards of baddies, but it was all packed to gether with an excellent storyline. Once you finish this game, you feel like you actually know less about who Dante actually is, because the storyline is EXTREMELY confusing. Another adition, which could have come off as either a good or bad thing, is that the level size is MUCH bigger. Unfortunately in this game, it is a very bad thing, since you spend most of your time brainless tapping the button that fires your guns. As a matter of fact, when you get to the flying bat on the roof top, the only way to hit it is to continously mash the fire button, and since the game has auto aim, there is no strategy! The whole point of having both a sword AND guns is so that you can use them both, and in this game you will find yourself using your guns MUCH more than your sword. This also makes leveling up your sword with red souls pointless, since most of the time your not using it! I'm not saying this game is completely empty of any entertainment, there are shining moments when you find yourself creating huge combos, and yes you still feel like a bad ass, SOMETIMES. If your looking at this game because the first blew you away, you may just want to rent it, because the game is EXTREMELY easy, and you will probably beat it within five hours of picking it up. If you haven't played the first one and your thinking of buying the second. DON'T! Buy the first one, rent the second, believe me its not worth your money to buy!

epic, truly a PS2 treasure, July 4 2004
This is one of those games that you look thirty or so years down the road, and its going for 100 bucks a pop on eBay. Final Fantasy encompasses everything that a final fantasy title should, and still manages to innovate, thus making the game completely different in every aspect from the last. It is impossible to truly explain all this game has to offer in the 1,000 word maximum, but here's my best shot. Since telling the storyline to all you readers would ruin the fun, I will tell you about some of the better features. there is a new method of leveling up your character, and there really are no levels at all. you are given sphere levels, which can then be traded for a move on the huge sphere grid. The grid is somewhat like a giant maze, with each stop containing a sphere. These spheres can contain defense power ups. strength power ups, and even be blank so that you can fill them in with your own choice of defense, strength, luck, and so forth. Tidus is the star player of the local Blitz ball team, the Zanarkand Abes. Blitz ball is a game played inside of a suppenended ball of water, and is somewhat like soccer in its idea, but then again is completely different. A whole set of rules has been made for this game, and you actually play through it to gain items. This shows off a theme that has carried through most final fantasy titles, mini games. You can play blitz ball, race chocobos (a type of large, rideable bird), and countless other time consuming mini games in conclusion, this is only the very tip of the iceberg. There are countless things to be said on this epic game. The storyline is top notch, and there are countless things to unlock. Pick it up as a rental first, many people don't like the turn based action this game has (although it only helps you toward strategizing as best you can.) If you love the game, as i think you will, buy it, its only 20 dollars, and you will get tons of play out of it (i have about 35 hours on mine and im no where near done!)

patience WILL pay off!, July 3 2004
I bought stuntman about a week after its release. I started it up and was immeadiately hooked on the adrenaline pumping scenes. With that said, this game is HARD! I've had it since the release and i am still two levels from completing it because i get so mad at it i can't play it for a month or so! The idea of the game is great, your a hollywood stunt driver, and you work on several fictious films. Although these films are not real, they have very obvious ties to films that are real (such as Indiana Jones and James Bond flicks.) Once you have finished the required stunts, you view a movie trailer, with your stunts spliced in, which is a great idea. As for the controls, they are something to get used to. Your average racing game will have X button to accelerate, Square button to brake and reverse, and the R1 button for handbrake. On stuntman this all the same, but the handbrake is moved to either the O, or Triangle button. Why this is neccasary, i have not the slightest idea, since the R1 button does nothing anyway. i also found it a bit bothersome that you were forced to work with the controls they gave you, there wasn't a certain number of predecided settings, let alone a custom configuration. As for the driving mechanics of the game, they also take some getting used to. Every car will handle a bit differently and since you are in and out of new cars throughout the entire game, it does take awhile to familiarize yourself with the controls. in general the cars glide a bit more often than in most games, which can be both a good and a bad thing. It can be good when trying to make quick U turns, and bad when trying to weave in and out of traffic, and both are equally used throughout the game. This is only a small problem, because after about a 1/2 hour of actually driving, you get the light, or sometimes rough touch that the vehicles require. Another very nice aspect of the game is the stunt builder. Through the stunt builder you can actually set up your own show in a big arena full of fans, complete with roll bars jumps and loops, and then wreak havoc on it, and ultimately destroy your vehicle. Through the career mode, you gain more and more complex toys to insert into your vitual destruction derby, from stacked barrels, to a giant loop. In conclusion, you must understand that this game is EXTREMELY difficult. You will find yourself restarting the scenes of the first movies anywhere from 75, to even 200 times before you have 100% completion. Once you reach the final movie, you may find yourself restarting 100 to 250 times, depending on how good a driver you are. The game wil definately test your patience, but once you finish a movie and see that commercial, there really is no better feeling because you know that you finally did it! P.S. Many people complain about the long load time everytime you have to restart a scene. To remedy this problem, simply open the disc tray once you power on PS2, and switch your system's speed, load times will be much faster!

a very interesting way of getting a point across, July 2 2004
I have recently gotten into punk music. Im not talking the new wave, fake pop punk, i mean the old 70-80s punk, when the songs actually had a statement. Obviously, i ran into the Adicts, and i loved them. I heard that they are loosely based on Alex's "droogs" in this movie, in how they dress in boiler suits, so i thought i would check it out. Right from the out start of the movie, Alex begins to beat a homeless person, simply because he doesn't like the homeless. From that point on, you can't help but get the feeling that you shouldn't be watching the movie, yet you can't keep your eyes off of it. The movie throws you into a whirlwind of emotions, what with the hate that grows in you towards Alex for his truly hanous acts of rape and violence (or "the old in out," and "a bit of the old ultra-violence," as Alex puts it.) Kubrick does a great job of truly making you think that Alex deserves all he has coming to him. Alex and his droogs are out one night, ready to take their next female victim, and the group agrees, without alex of course, that they are tired of him being the boss. Alex goes into the womans house, and after killing her with a giant ciramic male organ (if you know what i mean), runs out the front door, only to meet a milk bottle directly to his face from one of his droog buddies. his friends make a clean getaway and Alex is taken by the police and put into a catholic prison of sorts. While their he learns about the bible, and begins thinking things quite disturbing, such as being the one whip Christ on the way to his death (like i said disturbing.) Eventually Alex gets in the good graces of the pastor and is sent to a program which is basically a complete brainwash. By giving Alex a drug before forcing him to view films of group raping and ultra-violence, he becomes physically sick at the very thought of commiting a violent act, or raping another woman. Through all of the violence and rapings that run rampent in this film, kubrick is delivering a very strong message on politics. Through this movies eyes, the government is making all of the decisions, and subjecting Alex to a life of torture. In conclusion, this is no happy-go-lucky flick. The high amounts of violence and rape will be enough to make you feel uncomfortable. It really is best to push past all of that, because after Alex finishes his treatment, the film really begins to shine and deliver its message. Believe me, take the time to sit through it, or at least come back to it and wathc it and hour at a time, you will feel like a changed person afterword. PS To dan who wrote the comment about punks in the last line of the review above me, you dont understand what im saying. I never insisted that you must see this movie to be a punk, you might just enjoy it if you are a fan of the Adicts like i am, since much of their music is loosely based on the film (such as the song "smart Alex"). To say that being a punk means seeing a certain movie is foolish, you have to feel punk and the ideas that it carries inside, and i know that!

comedy at its best, July 2 2004
Young Frankenstein is one of the few movies that EVERYONE knows. The actors do an excellent job of delivering the great "slap-stick" comedy throughout the film. The entire movie is also delivered in black and white to give it that old horror film feeling, and takes place mostly in the castle of Dr. Frankenstein. Now that the infamous Dr. Frankenstein has passed, his grandson, Fredrick, goes to the castle. While in the castle he falls upon his grand fathers old library and realizes that bringing people back to life after death could work, and creates a fully operational hulk! This movie is great if you ahve a sharp grasp on humor and a bit of information from the timespan. Some jokes will pass right over the heads of some of the younger viewers, such as the scene where Dr. FRONKenstein (as he likes to be called) arrives at the train station at track 29 and a boy asks if he can give him a shine. Me being a high school student, i am greatful that my jazz choir sang the chatanooga choo choo or i would have never understood that one. in conclusion the movie is a hilarious collection of old cliches about horror movies, yet never gets tiresome like some of monty pythons movies. A great, entertaining trip to Transylvania awaits you!

a recipe for punk!, Jun 28 2004
bad religion has had quite a history, and this CD does not dissapoint. Kerosene and American Jesus are my personal favorites. to get back to the roots of bad religion, and away from the more PC lyrics that you hear on the radio today, pick this one up, and learn about REAL punk!

fun while it lasts, Jun 27 2004
Kirby is one of the few title where you can say, with full confidence and sanity "i just kicked a whole army's ass with a pink, puffy,.....thing!" nightmare in dreamland is definately not the kirby for the ages. The game itself is classic kirby fun, witha few new added morphs. unfortunately, the storyline is sketchy and hard to follow, and the game is extremely short and easy. i personally put abot two of my gaming hours into this game, which is a meer drop compared tot he 37 hours i have saved to my final fantasy X file. Also, once you ahve run through the game, there really is no reason to do so a second time, because there are NO unlockables waht so ever. Don't get me wrong, the gmeplay of this game is still good fun, but if you have a super nintendo, you will find much more entertainment in kirby superstar.
