Arnold wrote these in war time for varying members of the London Philharmonic as they toured. So then this marvelous variety of istrument combos: flute, violin, horn, viola and bassoon on the first in a Quintet, which is cheerful and vibrant.
The Duo for Flute and Viola is marvelous, with its fine matching of two exquisite sounds.
The Divertimento for Flute, Oboe and Clarinet is my favorite, since is highlights these premier wind instruments in fine piece, punctuated by a miniature Pomp and Circumstance.
The finale "Three Shanties for Wind Quintet" is known as the most played among these pieces and most loved of Arnold's music, since revolve around dance movements between the instruments.
All nicely done by this fine British chamber group.

This is a plethora of ideas about gardening in places where room is limited, or for those neglected areas that need special attention or concentration.
It offers material on preparing area, soil and drainage for plantings; what I think is the best chapter, that on "style." Also includes chapter on keeping garden fit as well as "working in tandem with nature."
One-third of the book is devoted to a dictionary of plants that are recommended for small spaces. Well illustrated, this is good reference and idea book.

Another reviewer penned it so well, that this production is not "pretentious," and I believe that is why many enjoy it so much. It is not slick "techno" glittery Americanized hype production, but simple sets and passionate performers who seem to delight in performing it so much.
Was taken very much by the orchestration, so well done in this case the Drottninghom Court Theatre Orchestra and Chorus directed by Arnold Ostman on period instruments. Bravo!
Each of the opera writter by Schikaneder was very well done, but my favorite is the delightful Pagageno! What charisma this guy Samuelson exudes in this part! He is the best! Also, the queen's three and the three boys who lead the trials are excellent as well!
The story is delightful, but spiritually is troublesome, due to Isis et al. Too much of Mozart's and Schikaneder's Freemasonry in this for me. The serpent, sin and evil, are themes but not dealt with in true spiritual reality. If this is proposed as the fairy tale which permeates it, then so be it.
All in all, just a delightful opera so well produced and performed. Wonderful entertainment!

For those of us who love baroque, this is just an exquisite collection of some of the best, fourteen to be precise.
From Bach to Handel to Vivaldi to Telemann, plus Albinoni, Corelli and Marcello, this is awesome. There is great variety of instrument emphasis, from strings to winds, and organ.
Most of these are very well known, but there for me were several new entries on my baroque favs now, including Handel's Larghetto from "Xerxes" with its great oboe solo.
What a bargain! Baroque lovers rejoice and indulge!

This is light and breezy chamber music at its best. Although not having the depth of Bach, Telemann's compositions here while in the employ of the court at Frankfurt are entertaining and inventive.
With lots of playfulness and color, these overtures or dances are just right for enjoyful baroque listening sessions. Just wonderful for a meal's background, or anytime.
The Cologne Chamber Orchestra plays with enthusiasm and sparkle, led by Helmut Muller-Bruhl.

The pacing and dynamic interpretation of Brahms Symphony No.1 is exquisite, with sublte tension infused. Their is fine balance here, polished yet warm.
The Serenade No. 2 is soft and silky played, and a fine addition to this recording.

This historic restaurant has enchanted many diners. Such was some friends who bought this cookbook as gift for me after such.
The recipes inside are American, enhanced by European and other world spices and ingredients which have since become central foodstuffs of our heritage.
Unique are many, such as: Chestnut Fritters; Pecan Crusted, Honey-Glazed Roasted Duckling; Pork Medallions with Oatmeal Stout; Tavern Lobster Pie; Orange Ricotta Coffe Cake; Thomas Jefferson's Sweet Potato Biscuits.
Fun of going back to good ole American standards from such a historic place in our nation's past. Neat feature is this history told in very front section of the cookbook.

Rodgers is a prolific cookbook writer of all types and sorts, including his Christmas and Thanksgiving 101 books, as well as the more serious and magnificent cookbook on Vienna, et al Bakery.
This is focused on a comeback entry, fondue. Many of us from sixties and seventies went through the rage for this and had not thought of it for awhile. Now this resurrgence, and Rodgers provides us with a quality work to explore this new appetizer, main course and dessert entry.
He provides equipment section, that although brief is usuable and reliable info. Would have been nice to have photos and source info, but these aren't really that vital to this food venue.
His creativity in collected these recipes is what makes this book valuable: feast your fondue spear on such as: Sun Dried Tomato Pizza Fondue; Caribbean Edam and Habanero Chile Fondue; Rosemary Ragna Cauda with Vegetables; White Chocolate and Raspberry Swirl Fondue; and Double-Berry and Riesling Fondue.
Each is helped by a "What To Dip" box with many times dozen and more items suggested.

You won't find such creative stuff anywhere else, trust me, one who's a cookbook addict collector and searches many sources for great recipes. Marcel is truly creative and stand alone in his relentless search and publication of such collections, all geared not for restaurant or competition but for us home chefs. Ingredients, equipment and techniques are all tried and prepared with us in mind.
This volume on cakes is divided into five groupings: Baby cakes, Mom's cakes, Celebration cakes, out-of-state cakes, and sky-high cakes, with the common theme of chocolate. This guy really knows how to get to my sweet tooth, with nuts and fruit and decadent chocolate.
Try the likes of: "Chocolate Porto Enchantment Cake"; "Milk Chocolate Peach Pecan Upside Down Cake with Peach and Bourbon Ice Cream" or "Chocolate Mai Tai." Truly, there is too many good ones, but feast your tastebuds on: "Martha's Chocolate Frecles Fresh Blueberry Ice Cream Cake" "Chocolate Caraway On-The-Rock Trifles" "Chocolate Tender Passion"
As with each of his cookbook offerings, there is the super photos, Chef's Touch section with its fascinating background and prep and serving tips, and section on sources, ingredients and techniques, one especially awesome here is a Table of differing chocolate melting times using both double broiler and microwave methods.
This one does take the cake
