5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Comedy!, Feb. 6 2007
Dr. Katz is one of the funniest shows from the 90's. Although not hugely popular, it's wit and subtle sense of humour will leave you laughing all the way through. Dr. Katz is a middle aged therapist who lives with his mooching 23 year old son who is always schemeing of ways to either not to go find a job or coming up with crazy money making schemes. ie. Buying a couple of vietnamese pot-bellied pigs and getting into the field of "animal husbandry". Dr. Katz patients are all either famous actors or comedians. If you like intelligent and subtle humour (if you like The Office), than Dr. Katz Professional Therapist will not leave you wanting.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Ol' Popcorn Action Flick!, Jan. 21 2007
This review is from: Crank (Widescreen) (DVD)
This movie isn't meant to have any meaning or even a sensible plot; the one we get is as loose as you can get. It's just a good excuse for some senseless violence, a car chase and some rather quite funny moments, all for the pure pleasure of entertainment. If you like action movies or just wanna spend a few hours having a good time on the couch than this movie is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's a reason he's #1!!, Dec 24 2006
This review is from: Tiesto in Concert (DVD)
Tiesto is and forever will be the number 1 dj in the world. He is absolutly amazing. I've never seen him live, but this dvd is the best thing to being there. The track selection was awesome, the editing great, and the light show amazing. I so wish I could have been there, but with this dvd and it's 5.1 surrond sound and HD picture, I can feel like I really am over and over again from the comfort of my living room floor, where I can dance the night away, every night, watching this dvd. A must have for any trance/electronica fan and Tiesto fan in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book on Communicating Love, Dec 18 2006
This was a very good book describing the 5 Love Languages. Just knowing what the 5 love lanugages are will help anyone communicate and emotionally connect better with those most nearest and dearest to them. We don't learn how to connect with people properly, but if you can learn to speak a persons primary love lanugage, your chances of having a more meaningful and loving relationship with that person is enhanced by a 1000%. Noone said learning how to and than speaking someone's love language was gonna be an easy thing, but if you put the time, effort, and commitment into doing so, your rewards will be more than you'd ever expect!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Eternal Classic!, Oct. 26 2006
Robert Fagles has done it again! Coming on the heels of his superb translation of "The Illiad" before it, this translation of Homer's epic "The Odyssey" is nothing short of brilliant. In clear, modern english he has been able to convey and capture the imagination of the modern day reader in the way that Homer's original greek must have captivated our ancient brethren 2500 years ago. The Odyssey was a masterpiece than and still is a masterpiece now. If you want to read and experience an epic from western literary tradition, there's no better place to go than to the first and best example of one, Homer's Odyssey. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further..., Sept. 15 2006
This review is from: Plato Complete Works (Hardcover)
This is by far the best and most complete collection of Plato's works. And they are amazing. After reading a few of the dialoges its easy to see why Plato has had such an impact on philisophical thought for the last 2500 years!! Since the time of Plato himself to the present people have quoted and used Plato's ideas to either influence or be used as a basis for their own lives and/or views on philisophical and intellectual thought. The translations and introductions are superb. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone, truly a masterpiece in world literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Illiad Translation There Is!, Aug. 25 2006
This review is from: The Iliad (Paperback)
Robert Fagles translation of the Illiad is supurb! It's very easy to read and yet still retains its essence which has captivated readers for 2800 years!! I would highly recommend The Illiad to everyone, the story is a timeless one and one can relate to it as much now in the year 2006 as the people did back in 1200-800BC, before it was even written down, and just passed down generation to generation orally. This translation is definitly the best english translation there is to enjoy this timeless classic.

Do yourself a favour and read one of the most brillant stories ever written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Edition of Thucydides!!!, July 13 2006
As someone who has always been interested in ancient Greek history but have never studied it in any depth, Thucydides' "History of the Peloponnesian War" was the best place to start. More importantly with "The Landmark Thucydides"! First of all the translation was excellent, very easy for a contemporay of the 21st century to understand. The introduction, appendices, footnotes, glossery, and index all accumulate to give you a wealth of knowledge and perspective. Not just on clarifying whats happening in the narrative, but all the background information, and extra insights into the Classical Greek world really puts everything in context and allows modern readers to really appreciate why the different Greeks acted as they did.

By the end of the book it leaves you with a wealth of information that leaves you craving more, and in so doing, prompting you to go out and find other works, by both ancient and contemporary writers about this fascinating period of western civilization.

I owe a great debt to the compilers of this edition, not the least of which Thucydides' himself, for at least in regards myself, taking a spark of knowledge and appreciation of this wonderfully fascinating time, and turning it into a full blown firestorm of inquiry and excitment.

This is an excellent book and an excellent edition!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Master of Language in History!!, May 29 2006
I came across Cicero by sheer chance, and was greatly rewarded. This is a collection of just a small amount of his work but what a collection it is! For someone who has never read Cicero before this I was not disappointed. His mastery of language is so profound that it left me almost speechless at times. Cicero speaks with such conviction and with such elegance that it is practically unknown in todays modern world. For me personally, I have never heard anyone talk as Cicero does, with a masters in rhetoric, it is a shame that this art is all but lost in todays world.

Micheal Grants translation and especially his introductions alone are worth the price of this book. For anyone interested in the time of the fall of the Roman Republic or Roman society and life in general, Cicero's Selected Works are definitly a good place to start your journey into learning more about this fasinating time of the people who lived it.
