5.0 out of 5 stars Your privacy is ending - fast!, May 17 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Enlightening, demanding read for anyone without a technical mentality. Ultimately scary, providing the context for what is sure to be an onslaught of new ways to invade our privacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MEMORY OF NAOKO LINGERS ON, May 8 2011
This review is from: Naoko (Paperback)
HERE IS A MASTERFUL NOVEL THAT IS NOT SET IN CALIFORNIA, HAS NO VIOLENCE, NO FOUL LANGUAGE, NO TERRORISTS, NO RAPISTS, NO GRAPHIC SEX, NO GOVERNMENTAL PARANOIA. IT IS THE SPELLBINDING TALE OF A MOTHER OCCUPYING HER DEAD DAUGHTERS BODY. THE CONSEQUENCES TURN THE PAGES. SET IN JAPAN, THE CULTURE IS DIFFERENT, THE EMOTIONS UNIVERSAL. THE AUTHOR, HIGASHINO, IS A STORY TELLER OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. IF YOU LIKE THIS BOOK MOVE ON TO HIS "THE DEVOTION OF SUSPECT X"

4.0 out of 5 stars understanding the unfathomable, March 11 2011
in spite of the authors claims of simplicity, i didnt understand 98% of this book. however, its the 2% that i got that has changed my perspective on how i live my life now."we live within a galaxy containing a few hundred billion stars, it establishes that ours is but one of hundreds of billions of galaxies, and it provides evidence for unseen dark energy permeating every nook and cranny of this vast arena" WOW!
this means there is another "me" out there in all of this "billions of everything", this is all mathematically verifiable (if not now - some day) and i could be living in a "SIM", an artificial environment created by a super computer. furthermore ours is not the only universe - there are lots of parallel universes. how big is infinity?
if the authors credentials were not harvard/oxford/rhodes scholar/cornell/columbia, one would think he was certifiable off kilter. as religion has tried to explain to us, there is something happening out there that is unexplainable.
however to take all of this one step further, you have to read the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars great read, Oct. 16 2010
This review is from: Pilgrims (Paperback)
tired of vampires, terrorists, serial killers, sexual deviants? how about a story with a beginning, a middle, and a nice twist at the end? throw in the author as a character for good measure. "pilgrims" is the antidote to the type of fiction that dominates the weekly top 10 best sunday new york times best sellers.

5.0 out of 5 stars the endless war syndrome, Oct. 11 2010
for a layman, washington rules confirms everything about global u.s. military involvement that you suspect you knew, but never had confirmed.
