5.0 out of 5 stars Simply expectacular!, May 17 2004
It's hard to find words to describe this movie. I usually wonder why we do not see more movies like this....The soundtrack, the photography, the actors, etc. Everything is so well connected and interrelated that the whole movie is like a long meditation, but not action-free. Ang Lee had done a wonderful work with the characters, because you see then fighting, but at the same time their emotions are under control. The path of a master is full of challenges where emotions have to be controlled in order to achieve the higher mountains of realization!

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting fiction with historical facts!, Jan 20 2004
I knew Dan Brown with "Angels and Demons". "The Da Vinci Code" is similar in its action and structure. I liked both books because they combine fiction with history and an excellent description of museums, churchs and other esoteric/historical landmarks.
If you are looking for a literary book, this is not. HOwever, if you are looking for an excellent thriller, intelligent and very well written, this is the book.
In fact, I want to read Brown's previous books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homer's second best!, Dec 29 2003
This review is from: Odyssey (Paperback)
First the Iliad, then The Odyssey. Both epics are essential to understand the western civilization in its origins. Of course, they are not easy reading. One not accustomed to verse might find both epics boring. However, if you are willing to know why all classics writers mentioned them as precious jewels that inspired them, there's no other way than going through their pages. For me it was hard at the beginning, but after a while, I was not able to leave the story/history behind. Like most things, first things first! And both the Iliad and the Odyssey must be read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, witty and true!, Dec 29 2003
Even though I'm not an US citizen, I found this book very interesting and honest. Michael analysis is daring, and I understand that Michael is not friend of many. However, his honest and clear-cut criticism of "white men" attitude towards the world is great. The only thing I disagree with Michael is his support of abortion. I do not understand his criticism of death penalty while on the other side he supports the homicide of innocent children. This is not clear.....
However, the book's themes are excellent written. I admire Michael's courage to denounce Bush's corruption and blunders, as well as all the white man terrible damage to the human race.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychologically strong!, April 21 2003
This film is great.
It captured my whole attention during the 2 or more hours is lasts. The back and forth story is tricky, but so well edited that really one has to focus, otherwise one loses the thread.
The suicide ingredient is strong for someone who's not accostume to hear or deal with it. Depression, HIV, suicide, homosexual and bisexual relationships, psycosis, etc.., are some of the elements depicted in this wonderful story.
Excellent. Great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great,great,great!!, April 21 2003
If I could put it 6 stars I would do it!
This book is really fascinating! Of course, is longer than any other Hesse's books. If you're looking something like Siddartha or Demian, this is not the case. This book is quite longer, but it takes you to a world totally different.
Hesse's writing is so magical and spiritual that it caught me all along the book.
If you are a Hesse's follower, you should not miss this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars The human tragedy seen as drama..., April 21 2003
This review is from: Hamlet (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read Hamlet in Spanish, so I guess I may have lost most of its magic. However, the translation was good enough to transport myself to Shakespeare's wonderful drama.
Hamlet is so human, so well depicted that all the things said about this drama is true.
I would have loved to read it in English, but it's not my native language, but I'm sure might lost many of the word meanings.
This is book is very interesting to start reading Shakepeare.

5.0 out of 5 stars A return to the origins!, April 21 2003
This review is from: The Iliad of Homer (Paperback)
It's difficult not to give 5 stars to "The Iliad" of Homer. I must admit it was not an easy reading, mainly because I've read a version in verse. However, it was a wonderful journey to the origins of the Western Civilization, its myths, heroes, wars and more. I always wanted to read it, but always postponed it for any reason. It took me two months to read it because it's not like a fiction novel you could read today. It's history, it's mythology, and among it the story about Achilles, Agamemnon, Athena, Apollo, etc. Wonderful book. Anyone who's interested in learning its roots should read it.
Now I look forward for "The Odyssey".
