Not groundbreaking, but not bad, either!, Nov 14 2003
There are many negative reviews just for the sake of showing hate for Hilary Duff. This is not the mature way to make a review, because if you have not even listened to the CD, you cannot possibly have an opinion on it. It's useless for your input if you have not even listened to the CD. This CD can be compared to all of the major blonde pop stars, but with more innocent themes and songs. The music is upbeat and the singing sweet-sounding. Her voice isn't mature yet, so it is very sweet sounding. If she gets voice lessons, I would bet that she would become a remarkable singer like the other pop stars out there. If you hate pop, then of course you will hate this cd, no questions asked. I'm not particularly attracted to pop because it just isn't to my liking, but this is a typical pop cd. Nothing wrong with it, nothing ground breaking. 15 year old Hilary Duff, Disney Channel star, makes a debut album because she enjoys singing and, because she is famous, people buy her cds. Nothing wrong with that. If someone I like on TV makes a CD, I'd probably be interested in it. Of course Hilary is not opera star and does not have the best voice of the century, but no one said that she did. She's just experimenting with the music world because it is a dream of hers. Wouldn't you do the same thing if you had the chance? The songs are upbeat and if you like pop, you will enjoy them. If you are indifferent like I am, then you probably won't feel one way or the other. If you hate Hilary and hate pop, then why are you even wasting your time reading this review?

A fascinating story that will keep you reading, Nov 8 2003
I loved this book because it made me want to solve the mystery of Kwan's yin eyes and how it affects her half sister Olivia. Olivia's father is Chinese and her mother is American, and her Chinese father has a full-blooded Chinese daughter named Kwan who lives in Changmian, China. Changmian is a city of ill reputation because years earlier there was a massacre of the villagers and Christian missionaries that lived there. Kwan moves to America to live with Olivia and her family, and Olivia hates her with a passion. Olivia's mother does not pay much attention to Olivia as a child, so Kwan takes over as her mother figure. Olivia plays mean jokes on Kwan because she is embarrassed of her; all of her friends say that Kwan is retarded. Olivia soon learns how to speak Chinese with Kwan, and Kwan reveals to Olivia that she can see people in the world of Yin, which basically means she sees ghosts. Olivia gets Kwan sent to the mental hospital, but Kwan holds no hard feelings towards Olivia. She loves Olivia dearly, and you find out why towards the last hundred pages of the book. It is a great book full of mystery, and some parts will send chills down your spine. I highly recommend it!

5 star movie, but poor dvd, Nov 5 2003
Of course this movie is a classic about a little pig who is won by a farmer. The pig is adopted by Fly, the mother dog, and the farmer soon realizes that the pig can herd sheep. It is a cute movie that the whole family can watch together. It is heart warming and touching at parts. I recommend this to everyone because it is so great! My only problem is the dvd- not only are there virtually no extras, but you cannot skip the previews and commercials- it won't allow you to press MENU or skip them- if your remote control has a fast forward function, then that will work, but it is still VERY ANNOYING. I think this is inconsiderate and tricky of the company to do this.

For all Les Mis fans!, Nov 3 2003
I was a bit disappointed that the actors were only dressed in costumes and did not act out the parts, so I enjoy the CD better because you can truly appreciate the music because the images and the screen detract from the awesome music. Photos of the production are shown at the beginning of some songs instead of acting, and in other parts they show doubles acting out the parts while the real singers sing at microphones. Some of the acting doubles are laughable because the acting is terrible, so that is why the visuals sometimes detract from the gorgeous music. Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast as the rivals Jean Valjean and Javert will blow you away because they are such a great team. Ruthie Henshall shows a lot of emotion in her part as Fantine because she puts a lot of emotion into her part without wailing like Graff on the Original Broadway Cast Version. Jenny Galloway and Allun Armstrong have great chemistry together and do well as the Thenardiers. They are comical yet disgusting at the same time. Hannah Chick will make your heart melt in "Castle on the Cloud." Michael Ball and Judy Kuhn show lots of emotion in their parts as Marius and Cosette. They make these slightly annoying characters more understandable. Adam Searles is cute as Gavroche with his bubbly little voice, and Michael Maguire as Enjolras will make you gasp, especially in "One Day More." A must buy for all Les Mis fans!

My favorite recording of Les Mis that I own, Nov 3 2003
If you are interested in Les Miserables, I suggest you buy this album in addition to the other albums because it is the best in sound quality, emotion, and music quality. Of course they took out some of the parts to shorten it up so that they could fit it in a shorter amount of time, but it is surely my favorite album. I suggest buying the Complete Symphonic recording in addition to this album because although it lacks in good voice acting, it has the complete musical on it. Davids Charles Abell did a great job with conducting the orchestra, and the music is actually better than in the CSR. Great Family Entertainment, Oct 26 2003
This film has gorgeous animations, great voice acting, and the music is awesome. It is a musical, so steer clear if you don't like that sort of thing. This movie brings up sibling rivalry and how to forgive someone who has really hurt you. It is about the Joseph in the book of Genesis (in the bible). Rachel, Joseph's mother, was thought to be barren, so Joseph was a miracle child. Leigh was the mother of the other eleven brothers, so Jacob let them do all of the work while Joseph studied scrolls inside. The brothers began to envy Joseph with a passion because Jacob gave Joseph a magnificent coat that only the wealthy would wear, showing that Joseph was better than the rest of them. Joseph wants to fit in with his brothers, but they end up only getting angry at him. Jacob realizes that Joseph has prophetic dreams, and it angers Joseph's brothers when Joseph tells them of a dream in which all of his brothers' stalks of wheat bow down to him. They decide to sell Joseph as a slave to Egypt. Joseph has hard feelings for his brothers, but in the end all is resolved. It is an excellent movie and I highly recommend it.

Says it like it is- with humor included!, Oct 23 2003
Many people will hate this book because it brings up issues that people are not comfortable with, like why the education system sucks, how Bush became "president," how many businesses are still racist and black people do not have as many opportunities as white people, and other things that might tick you off. But if you read this book with an open mind and without hating because it is "too liberal," than you may actually enjoy this book because it has political satire at its best. It is a really amusing book. Don't take every little comment he says too seriously, because a lot of it is tongue-in-cheek. I found some of the ideas in the book enlightening. Maybe you will, too.

Good Famiy Fun, Oct 14 2003
Eddie Murphy is hilarious, and this movie is a step up from the past couple of movies that he has been in. Murphy's character gets fired after his veggie o's cereal is a flop. There is a tickling scene with two men dressed as a carrot and a brocolli while trying to make the kids in the taste test like the cereal, but the kids are gagging and throwing the cereal, complaining that it tastes terrible. Murphy's wife and young son had been complaining about murphy not spending enough time with them, and he finally has a chance to get closer to his son. In fact, he becomes really close with his son when he starts his own daycare center with his ex co worker. The idea came to him when he was sitting with his friend at the playground while complaining that all of the daycare centers are trash. The school that he wanted to send his son too was too expensive. There is a humorous scene in which murphy, his wife, and the child are touring the school while the students are studying for SATs and learning five languages in a DAYCARE center. At first no one wants men to take care of their children, but they soon learn to trust the two men. The expensive daycare center is losing business, and so now the war is on! A very funny movie that I recommend to all!

Tolstoy certainly knows human nature!, Oct 12 2003
I had to read this in English 5, and I absolutely loved it because it holds a powerful moral that every person should know: Money is not everything, and Greed can ruin your life. There are allegories, metaphors, symbols, virtues, and vices in this story that must be examined by the reader. We follow Pakhom, a poor man in Russia, who becomes more and more greedy as time goes by. Pakhom is a low class man who thinks that his only problem in life is that he has too little land. The Devil is amused when Pakhom says that not even the Devil would tempt him if he had enough land. Pakhom does indeed beginning to get more and more land, and he gets meaner and more greedy. He finds out about a "foolish" people called the Bashkirs that basically give out their land for free, so he does to them. What he doesn't know is that this people is actually wiser than he is because they are satisfied with what they already have. Pakhom is given the opportunity to walk around as much land as he wants, digging holes to mark his land, and if he can get back to the marked place by sunset, then he can have the land for free! Pakhom gets too greedy and walks around too much land, so he must run back. He is so exhausted that he dies. How much land does a man need? Six feet from his head to his feet. A must read!

A favorite in my house!, Oct 11 2003
I just got this book for my 2-year-old nephew, Zachary, because he loves the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" by the same people. He asked me to read it to him four times in a row because he loved it so much! He likes it because it uses zoo animals that he loves, like hippos, walruses, zabras, elephants, flamingos, peacocks, polar bears, leopards, and a boa constrictor! (well, I say "snake" when I get to that part because that's how he knows it). The rythm is just like Brown Bear, and he loves it! I recommend it to all young children because it is a fun book.
