5.0 out of 5 stars The Love Below/Speakerboxxx, Sep 27 2003
I want to start this out by saying that Im not a huge rap fan, but this is still an incredible album. Of the two albums Andre 3000's The Love Below is the better and more interesting of the two. He strays away from any traditional rap sound and carries a more funky jazz vibe. My favorite tracks on the album are Love Hater which is basically a laid back jazz tune, Spread which is extremely funky, Roses with a cool piano intro and a catchy chorus, Hey Ya! with its acoustic guitar, awesome synth riff, and chorus, My Favorite Things is a crazy reworking of the original, Dracula's Wedding is short but sweet, and Vibrate is funky with great lyrics.

Big Boi's Speakerboxxx is my second favorite in this double album. It seems to stick to a more traditional rap style but is extremely funky. Ghetto Musick is a great track with a great backing track and chorus, Bowtie with crazy horn lines and great hook, Bust is a great track with a hard rock edge to it and great raps, War is a song about the problems in the world today, and Church is a great funky track. Definitely pick this album up if your looking for some music that isnt afraid to try something new in a genre that needs new life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The triumphant return of Janes Addiction!, Aug 12 2003
This review is from: Strays (Audio CD)
Jane's Addiction's first album of all new tracks since Ritual De Lo Hibitual is a return to their interesting mix of metal, funk, blues, psychadelics, and folk. This album is almost on par with their classic debut Nothing's Shocking. It is great to see that Jane's have not changed their style after all these years and still rock as hard as before.

Strays has many great tracks, and all the players on it are in great form, as well as new bassist Chris Chaney. The title track is great, starting slow and building into a rocker with great riffs and vocals. Price I Pay also starts slow, builds into a verse with clean guitars, and you are hit over the head with slamming guitars during the chorus. Dave Navarro has a great solo closing the track. The Riches is a great track with great vocals, nice guitar work by Dave Navarro, and slamming bass lines by Chris Chaney. Superhero is a cool track with great riffs, solo, and vocals. Wrong Girl is probably my favorite, the riff is just incredible, and Perry Farrell sings it perfectly. Dave Navarro's solo is incredible, my favorite on the album. Suffer Some has a great riff, a singalong chorus, and great guitar fills across the track. Oh yeah Dave Navarro's solo rips as well. If you are a fan of Jane's Addictions earlier work then I would definitely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funk it up!, Jun 27 2003
This review is from: Mothers Milk (Audio CD)
Mother's Milk is the Peppers 4th album released before their masterpiece Blood Sugar Sex Magik. This is their first album with new guitarist John Frusciante, and drummer Chad Smith replacing respectively the deceased Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons. Both new members prove their importance to the band with guitar salvos reminescent of Hendrix by Frusciante, and the tight rhythm and powerful style of Smith. Original members Flea and Anthony Kiedis bring the funk as well. Flea's bass style had become increasingly virtousic over the albums and his bass shines throughout. Anthony Kiedis brings his lyrics and vocals in tip top form, varying from rap to wacked out funk.
My favorite's are Good Time Boys with its tight bass line, good vocals, aggressive drumming, and virtuosic guitar work. The Stevie Wonder cover Higher Ground is breakneck from start to finish with slap bass intro from Flea, guitar solo, and great sped up ending. The tribute to Hillel Slovak Knoc Me Down with a more melodic progression and Anthony shines throughout. Stone Cold Bush with a vicious bass line and bass solo, funky guitar intro and screeching solo, the lyrics shine as well. Sexy Mexican Maid is also a standout track with its laid back groove, playful guitar backing Anthony's sensual lyrics, and great guitar break. This album proves that you cant fake the funk and is a great display of the Pepper's earlier work.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest achievements in modern music!, Jun 27 2003
The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was quite possibly one of the greatest album's ever. The production by George Martin was revolutionary and his production techniques still sound fresh to this day. The songs have seamless transitions into each other and every track is memorable. My favorite's on the album are With a Little Help From My Friends, with it's playful lyrics and laid back beat, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds with its trippy lyrics and psychadelic melody, Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite with its carnival like sound, a great vocal from John Lennon and marching bass of Paul McCartney, When I'm Sixty Four with it's sped up vocals and lyrics about old age, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) with its screaming guitar breaks. This album is one of the most memorable of all time and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good album young or old.

3.0 out of 5 stars St. Anger, Jun 10 2003
This review is from: St. Anger (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
First I want to say that this album is not at all what i had expected coming into it. I was scratching my head after the first listen through, but got used to it after the 3rd or fourth listen through. I was expecting a return to the older albums such as Master or ...And Justice For All, and to a point it is. The difference is St Anger has the thrash rhythm parts but not a single solo from Hammett on the album. It doesnt venture into the progressive complexity of ...And Justice For All though. This combined with the lack of good lyrics make St. Anger a mediocre album. Most of the lyrics are repeated to stretch out the songs to an average of 6 minutes, attempting for the epic lengths of And Justice For All. Unlike Metallica's earlier albums St Anger is very riff oriented, most songs are based around a riff. This album is by no means terrible, there are many great riffs on songs like Sweet Amber, Dirty Window, Frantic(except for poor lyrics), and St. Anger. As a whole St. Anger is an average album that sometimes gets bogged down in its repetitive lyrics and poor delivery of them, but saves itself with crunchy thrash rhythm guitar from Hetfield. This album is a must for the completist, but will take time to get used to.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite album, Mar 15 2003
This review is from: Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Audio CD)
This is one of the most incredible albums ever. The album is breathtaking from start to finish. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the pinnacle of the Red Hot Chili Peppers career, after this album they took a turn into a more commercial style. The majority of the songs are driven by the funky slap bass of Flea. RHCP stick to their earlier funk sound on tracks like If You Have To Ask, Give It Away, Mellowship Slinky In B Major, Naked In The Rain and Sir Psycho Sexy. This is the first album on which the Peppers' slow it down and mellow it out on tracks Breaking The Girl, I Could Have Lied, and the major hit Under The Bridge. John Frusciante's guitar stands out on his solo in If You Have To Ask, The Righteous and The Wicked, and Under The Bridge. Anthony Kiedis' lyrics are strong throughout addressing everything from love, war, drug addiction, and sexual experiences. Anthony shows he is capable of rapping and singing with equal conviction. The album's only downfall is the cover of Robert Johnson's They're Red Hot, but clocks in little over 1 minute. This track is not enough to break the incredible experience.
