2.0 out of 5 stars Not the worst movie I've seen, June 17 2004
The story itself is not bad... but the execution stinks. Poor imitations of the first movies "do you want to know more?"
The acting was decent and once the story got started it was somewhat interesting.
If you really look you'll see an actor from the first film.
Overall, this is a movie for the hard core fans only... and thats just because it says Starship Troopers" on the box.

Great movies... but GL screwed with the classics.
It's like reworking Lawrence of Arabia or Ben Hur
Shame on him

5.0 out of 5 stars The stuff of Dreams and Legend, May 17 2004
This review is from: Legend (Ultimate Edition) (DVD)
This is a wonderful work that adds to the realm of fantasy. Besides a wonderful story of Good v. Evil (the cornerstone of all fantasy) we are blessed with some fantastic performances by Tim Curry and Mia Sara. Tom Cruise also does a fine job.
One of the best things about this version is that both the Original and Directors cuts are available. This way you can choose either the original film that you grew up with or the directors cut. Other SciFi / Fantasy directors should release films this way (COUGH... GEORGE LUCAS.... COUGH COUGH).
This is a must have for fans of Lord of the Rings, Dune, Babylon 5, and other great fantasy works.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hollywood TRASH, May 15 2004
What can you say about a movie that makes the tragic attack of Dec. 7, 1941 a backdrop for a stupid love triangle!
The only part of the movie that is any good is 40 minutes of combat that does not include Ben (of Benifer).
If your looking for a GOOD movie about Pearl Harbor check out TORA TORA TORA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cyberpunkture at it's peak, Nov. 7 2003
Neuromancer is cyberpunk. This first part of the sprall trilogy sets the stage for a little world we like to call cyberspace (a term INVENTED by Gibson).
This is the REAL story of the Matrix.
Neuromancer is akin to Dune and Lord of the Rings. LOTR is the epitome of fantasy epics, Dune is the best Sci-Fi universe, and Neuromancer represents the best version of a possible future of weak government and powerful mega-corporations.
While not as grand in scale as Dune or as epic as LOTR, Neuromancer is just as brilliant!

3.0 out of 5 stars GEORGE... STOP SCREWING WITH YOUR CLASSICS, Oct. 24 2003
Lost Arc and Crusade are unchanged... BUT Temple of Doom has been re-edited!!! Notice the NEW PG Rating... Temple used to be PG-13.
George is messing up his own movies AGAIN!
Lets hope that when SW comesout on DVD we'll be able to get the old version.
Oh yeah... these movies are still awesome.

The Silmarillion

by J.R.R. Tolkien
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars In the beginning there was The Silmarillion, Dec 24 2001
This review is from: The Silmarillion (Paperback)
The Silmarillion is a journey through the imagination of J. R. R. Tolkien. It begins with the creation of Arda (Middle Earth) and gives us a history of the world up to the Lord of the Rings. The novel is split into four main parts; The creation, The First Age, the Second Age, and the Third Age.
The Creation sets the stage of our story by telling the story of how Arda, Elves, Men, Dwarves and all living creatures came to be. We see how the land and sea are formed and we are told of the fallen that bring evil into the world.
The First Age tells the story of the many Wars between the Elves and the Evil One (and all of his Orcs/Goblins). We also see the transition between the old world of the past and the new world of Middle Earth from LOTR.
The Second Age revolves around Men and their growing influence in the world. The live on an island called Numenor aka Atalante (sound familiar). Here they live and prosper for generations as we read of their exploits. The Second Age ends with tragedy as you can guess from the Numenor's other name.
Finally, The Third Age tells stories regarding the Ring of Power. We learn more about the Ring and how it was forged, and we are given insights from the perspectives of various characters concerning the forging of, search for, and destruction of the Ring.
All in all, this is a GREAT history of Middle Earth. This is Tolkien's real life's work, as he started writing it in his early teens and worked on it until his death. We are given insights into history and language and we are transported to another world that seems that it could have really existed.
