2.0 out of 5 stars Completely fed up with this author, May 24 2007
This is the second book from this author that I've read and both were complete wastes of money! This is not a 'romance' novel, more like a political sci-fi. Even at that.. it stank! I cannot see how the previous reviewers gave it such high stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Harem, May 8 2007
This review is from: Harem (Paperback)
THE HAREM contains four erotic romance novellas and each story has its own twist on the Harem theme. "The Secret Door" by Noelle Mack has a slight paranormal element where the heroine--a lonely odalisque--unveils a hidden garden overseen by a mysterious golden-hued man.

In "The Pleasure Garden" by Emma Leigh, the shipwrecked heroine finds herself at the mercy of a handsome Englishman who must teach her the ways of Tao lovemaking in order to prepare her for the emperor.

In "East Meets West" by Celia May Hart, the half-Indian, half-English heroine has been trained in the erotic arts in preparation for the Maharajah. Escorted by a charismatic lieutenant neither one can deny their overwhelming passion.

Author Melissa MacNeal takes a slightly different approach with the Harem theme in "A Lady's Pleasure." Recently widowed Ophelia Leeds discovers that her late husband captained an elaborate ship fashioned to entertain all his wealthy friends' sexual desires. Intrigued by the escapades detailed in a hidden journal, Ophelia sets out to make a Harem of her own.

Each story revolves around a theme of forbidden passion, but my personal favorite is MacNeal's "A Lady's Pleasure." Sexy and fun this novella lightens up the mood and still makes you squirm in your seat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good, March 19 2007
I just recently bought this book, and found it to be quite good. There is an interesting story and the characters were also quite interesting. I did not give it a five because I felt the language the 'warriors' used was much too crass. It distracted by the book and wasn't useful. Though some shocking language is expected in a book, alot of swearing and vulgarity in this book by the 'good guys' seemed to be pointless.

I was shocked to read that the next book to come out will focus on characters OTHER than the sister of the herione, considering ALOT of pages were put into creating tension and interest in what would happen to her in sequels.

All in all though, a very good read and I hope others enjoy it as much as I have.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blah. Just Blah, Feb. 22 2007
This book could have been so good.. But it wasn't.

It's a really thick book, for a paperback, and so I thought I would settle in to a good long read. I couldn't get into it.

The story description sounds good but fails to deliver any excitement at all. Things just kinda happen.. and then other stuff happens.. (yawn) and finally.. (whew) the book is done.

The hero & herione are both uninteresting, the author fails to create any tension or chemistry between them.

The only reason I gave this book 2 stars outta 5 was that I actually did manage to finish is without throwing it in the fireplace.

When slightly chubby Suzanne Montgomery comes across a personal ad in her local free magazine for a "Kept Woman", she's intrigued enough to keep the paper, but not brave enough to respond. That is, until her best friend Wendy takes her by the bra straps, encourages her to get over her crazy ex-husband, lose the weight she's been complaining about and move on with her life.

Encouraged, Suzanne emerges from her sheltering cocoon a new woman. New hair, clothes and attitude regarding her body--along with the help of her "I'm not taking no for an answer" girlfriend--give her the courage to respond to the ad that continues to not only run in the magazine but in her mind. It also helps that her current battery-operated boyfriend isn't doing such a great job lately.

Enter Brian Armstrong, a self-made man, dating all the wrong women. He's good-looking and the CEO of Armstrong Control Systems. Women want him--want to change him, that is...control him. But what he wants is a sexy, confident, intelligent...submissive woman. Oh yeah, and one who likes Chinese food and miniature golf. With the help of his Administrative Assistant, a sexually submissive woman herself, Brian places a personal ad for the woman of his dreams. Someone willing to be "kept" by him. Loved by him. Controlled by him. Eat pizza with him.

When Suzanne and Brian meet, sparks fly and dreams of a possible future emerge but then so, too, does Suzanne's just out of jail ex-husband.
