Now THIS is how you package a DVD series! Each disc is in its own jewel-case-style "page", compact and organized. Not a scratch anywhere. Great coffee table book with the set including a bonus disc. Can't wait to have time to watch it all. Well done!
Although the DVD set was a good deal (plus it includes both tv movies) I am VERY disappointed with the packaging. First, the box was crushed on one corner, so even though this is a gift, I decided to unwrap it and check the discs for damage. I'm glad I did. Most of the DVD's are scratched from friction wear during shipping, the two most damaged have at least 2 episodes that are barely viewable. Season 5 Disc 1 is the worst. I have not been able to test all of the discs (I have a life!) but I'm sure we'll have trouble with several more.
The problem is the design of the box. The discs are separated by half-disc sized cardboard. This is where the scratch patterns occur, right across the middle of the discs. The two heavily scratched discs were inserted improperly with no spacer and have deep scratches all over. These discs also had some hard material stuck on them, possibly paint chips?
I will not bother trying to exchange them because I doubt the next set would be any different due to the design flaw, plus the birthday I bought them for is next week, if I end up giving it to him at all now. I'll think twice before ordering a DVD set online in the future. At least that way I could return them immediately and get something else or try another set in store and hope for the best.
