4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the original, July 1 2014

The remake was not quite as campy as the original series. While the special effects were great I felt that I still would have liked to seen a little more character development.

3.0 out of 5 stars Copy stand use, July 1 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We needed a new set of lights for a copy stand for photographing medical samples. The lights themselves are good construction and should last a long time. The reason for three stars is the switches in on one of the units wouldn't work and had to be repaired. When it was taken apart I discovered that instead of screws holding stripped wire in place there were two very flimsy copper prongs designed to cut into the plastic shielding of the wire in order to create a circuit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read., May 17 2014

This review is from: The Martian: A Novel (Hardcover)
Mark Watney is now officially my hero.

Andy Weir has created a character that is extremely easy to identify with. Mark is marooned on Mars and has to learn to survive in a near vacuum. For most of us that would pretty well be the end of the story, fortunately in real life NASA sends some extremely well trained and intelligent individuals on missions and in this fictional piece Mark is similarly equipped and logically and plausibly overcomes these challenges with the occasional screw up.

The story is well crafted, difficult to put down once you start reading and not overly laden with the technical aspects of survival in a hostile environment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely no effect., May 17 2014

I bought three bottles, followed the instructions dutifully, and have gained two pounds. Despite Dr. Oz's show recommendation the ingredients in this bottle aren't doing what they're advertised to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted., Dec 20 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This battery was great while it lasted. Over the last week it has been dropping a charge in about four hours and has come close to cooking the phone. I pulled the battery from the phone and noticed that it is now swollen, bulging, in the middle quite noticeably, and it has split the side seams on the case.

Time for another brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa, what a ride!, Nov. 13 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nexus (Paperback)
I bought both books, Nexus and Crux, and read them back to back. I found it very easy to slip into the minds of the characters and live their dilemmas through their eyes. Ramez Naam manages to illustrate both sides of the proverbial coin masterfully and had me at times cheering for the good and the bad guys and at the end having a hard time deciding who was morally right at the end of it all. Hopefully the next in the series wraps this up and soon, I'm looking forward to whatever conclusions that come out of this saga.

Very well made and crafted to be kid safe. It was a birthday present and the kids love them. There's no buttons or such such that would pose a hazard.

1.0 out of 5 stars Banal at best, Oct. 8 2013
Take six guys, get them good and stoned, lock them in a room for the weekend, give them a video camera and let their preadolescent personalities pretend its the Rapture and they got left behind. Any time the dialogue slows administer another round of drugs and alcohol. Other than a few cameos by Emma Watson, Rihanna, and a couple of very well rendered demons there's not much of interest in this flick. Look for it soon in the dollar bin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little hand and joint protection., April 8 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these to use on my rowing machine, an average of three to five times a week. So far they're holding up well and have proven to be the best solution over bicycle gloves or taping the "oar" handles. I was getting some serious callouses from rowing and stiff finger joints and these gloves seem to be doing what I purchased them for; hand protection. They're a little longer in the fingers than cycling gloves and have sufficient enough padding without being over padded.
