1.0 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted., Dec 20 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This battery was great while it lasted. Over the last week it has been dropping a charge in about four hours and has come close to cooking the phone. I pulled the battery from the phone and noticed that it is now swollen, bulging, in the middle quite noticeably, and it has split the side seams on the case.

Time for another brand.

This review is from: Nexus (Paperback)
I bought both books, Nexus and Crux, and read them back to back. I found it very easy to slip into the minds of the characters and live their dilemmas through their eyes. Ramez Naam manages to illustrate both sides of the proverbial coin masterfully and had me at times cheering for the good and the bad guys and at the end having a hard time deciding who was morally right at the end of it all. Hopefully the next in the series wraps this up and soon, I'm looking forward to whatever conclusions that come out of this saga.

Very well made and crafted to be kid safe. It was a birthday present and the kids love them. There's no buttons or such such that would pose a hazard.

1.0 out of 5 stars Banal at best, Oct. 8 2013
Take six guys, get them good and stoned, lock them in a room for the weekend, give them a video camera and let their preadolescent personalities pretend its the Rapture and they got left behind. Any time the dialogue slows administer another round of drugs and alcohol. Other than a few cameos by Emma Watson, Rihanna, and a couple of very well rendered demons there's not much of interest in this flick. Look for it soon in the dollar bin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little hand and joint protection., April 8 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these to use on my rowing machine, an average of three to five times a week. So far they're holding up well and have proven to be the best solution over bicycle gloves or taping the "oar" handles. I was getting some serious callouses from rowing and stiff finger joints and these gloves seem to be doing what I purchased them for; hand protection. They're a little longer in the fingers than cycling gloves and have sufficient enough padding without being over padded.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive geek bag., April 8 2013

Pockets and storage galore.

If you like pens and highlighters this bag will accommodate them. Under the front flap there's six pen slots, albeit a little short, three short ones on the side of the bag, and under the back zip over panel are an additional four full length pen slots and four wide slots. There's also an abundance of pockets: three under the zip over panel that will hold smart phones easily, Under the front panel, as shown in the picture there is a smart phone sized pocket and a larger pocket that's large enough to hold sunglasses or such. Also shown in the picture is a water bottle sized pocket and small pocket ideal for ear buds and cables.

The inside of the front flap has a clear plastic pocket which is a great place to store receipts.

There are also two slots, one on the interior of the bag and one one the inside of the back zip over flap that will hold a decent sized book or letter sized notepads.

There are some card type stiffeners that help keep the bags shape so that it doesn't collapse in on itself which was a nice surprise.

The stitching and material on first inspection look good and will hopefully hold up with wear. The only concern is the shoulder strap; the metal fasteners look a little underweight and the strap attaches to the top of the bag rather than the sides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who'd a thunk, a watch for us lefties., Nov. 24 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Okay, pardon the poor spelling in the title but I actually found a watch made for left handed people.

I've combined the watch with a Momentum black metal watch bracelet and in spite of at first what seems to be its imposing size and weight after a couple of days of wearing it it feels like a good solid watch. In the past previous watches because of how light they are I'd occasionally have to check to make sure it was still there.

Like another reviewer with age related eyesight I can read this one with my glasses off easily.

All in all a good deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice weight, good construction., Nov. 24 2011

Unlike the other reviewer my strap didn't come with a "Hong Kong" sticker on the clasp but does have "stainless steel" stamped into it. The strap has a nice weight. I bought it for a Invicta Men's 332 Force Collection Lefty watch for which it is a pretty close match. The combination of the two is a little weighty, the watch itself is huge.

On the last two links where they attach to the watch are two tabs which I had to file off in order to get the watch pins to align to the body of the watch. Fortunately the removal of the tabs is on the inside where the links meet the body of the watch so they're not visible. For a smaller watch, i.e. not as thick, minor surgery shouldn't be involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down., July 5 2011
This review is from: Robopocalypse: A Novel (Hardcover)
Ever had one of those books that's impossible to put down? This one is definitely in that category. The story contains just the right amount of hard, almost plausible, science without becoming too technical and great characterizations.

The story is told from a narrative point of the main character who has survived the war and is chronicling the progress of the war through the records of those who have fought the war including the A.I. that has waged war on humanity. Rather than being a documentary the story is interpreted through the eyes of the characters and allows the author to develop the characters fully.

A great read, non-stop action combined with great story telling, reminds me of the earlier works of William Gibson - "Burning Chrome" or Stephen Neal Stephenson - "Snow Crash."

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrox red and read no more., July 3 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
At one time Wrox books were the publisher that I'd turn to if I wanted to learn about a new technology or needed a solid reference book. The "Programmer to Programmer" trademark meant something to me when I needed to turn to individuals for written advice. I'm sad to say this is no longer the case. Over the last three to five years this publisher's material has shown a steady decline in the quality of the authorship.

This book is the metaphorical straw that has broken this camel's back. The author's writing style lacks any coherence; code segments are dropped in with out any regard to a logical flow or explanation as to how they were developed. Also are the errors typographical and programmatic. I've made it as far as page 46 before tossing in the towel after vainly trying to find the file "Template.master" in the author's provided source code. Hoping for just errors in proof reading and typography I downloaded the author's source code. The error count in Visual Studio when trying to compile the code alone is 109 listed errors.

Unfortunately the last few books I've purchased form Wrox has soured my opinion of their product line and it's going to take some really good unbiased reviews to encourage me to purchase from them again.
