The end of the world? Bring it on!!!!, April 13 2004
Revelation, being the second of 4 movies on the apocolypse by cloud ten pictures, tells the story of a cop (Thorold Stone - played by Jeff Fahey), who has recently lost his wife in the rapture and is trying to find out what the heck happened. His search leads him to Helen Hannah, (Leigh Lewis) and her collegues whom are all Christians or at least sympathetic to the cause and the battle against the anti-christ Franco Macalousso, (Nick Mancuso). This film is very well done by cloud ten. The story is fast-paced and the charecters are well fleshed out. There is alot of witty dialougue in this one and the virtual reality side of the story is very interesting. Watching the anti-christ doing his deals for human souls is quite unsettling, and very realistically done. It's amazing what we humans are willing to trade for their own souls these days. For a christian made film, Revelation stands way higher from bigger budget hollywood movies on the same subject, i.e. the dreadful "end of days." It also is one of the best christian movies I've seen. Thanks for reading and enjoy the film.

Buy this!!, April 12 2004
Indiana Jones, (Harrison Ford), is one of the greatest charecters ever put on film. These movies rank as amoungst the very best action films ever. "Raiders of the lost ark", tells the story of an archeologist, Indiana Jones, who is given the task of finding the lost ark of the covenant. This biblical artifact, is said to contain great power so Hitler and his cohorts are keen on obtaining it. This movie hardly ever lets up as far as excitement and action go and the acting and story are first-rate. I wish I could say the same for the sequal, "Indiana Jones and the temple of doom", there is one main reason this film is much maligned: Kate Capshaw. Her performance in this film as the leading lady is appalling. Her constant high-pitched screaming and hysterics really do take the enjoyement out of it. The story itself is interesting, Indiana goes to India to discover the a lost sacred stone in order to save a local village. It's a noble and dangerous quest which takes him into the very heart of evil as he encounters a dangeous Kali worshipping cult. This film is not for children either as there are some disturbing scenes of human sacrifice. I only wish they put out a director's cut and took out Kate Capshaw! Finally, "Indiana Jones and the last crusade" is the last film in the trilogy and it's an action packed ride. In this one, Indiana is searching for the Holy Grail, the cup that Jesus of Nazereth used for the last supper. The cup is said to contain the secret of eternal life to whomever finds it. Once again, Indiana comes up against the Nazi's and the film goes alone at a breathtaking pace. The film also sees the welcome return of Marcus Brody, (Denholm Elliot) and John-Rys Davis, (Salah) and Sean Connery as Indiana's father provides a great deal of entertainment and amusement. The late River Phoenix also puts in a good performance as a young Indiana Jones, we also learn where he got his hat, chin scar and bull-whip!! All in all, a great box-set to own, the films have never looked or sounded better and really benefit from the dvd technology. I hope Spielberg and co. get a decent script together for the new Indiana Jones film before Harrison Ford gets too old! If not, Brandon Fraser could step in for him, "The Mummy", was a very Indiana Jones type film. Thanks for reading and enjoy these films.

Christian sci-fi? You better believe it!!, April 12 2004
Cloud Ten pictures try their hand at Sci-fi with "Deceived" and they don't do a bad job of it. It stars Judd Nelson, Louis Gossett Jnr and others. A group of experts are called in to investigate a message of unknown origin thought to eminate from space. The writers give us an interesting and thought provoking story as well as making it quite thrilling. SPOILER ALERT!! Compare it if you will to the movie "Contact" where "aliens" make contact with us. The question asked here is how do we know where these messages really come from and what happens if the "aliens" are in fact evil spirits. All in all, an interesting film with good performances by it's lead actors. Watch this if you are interested in aliens and the like and if you like to think. Thanks.

Average, not great., April 12 2004
Soul Harvest, being the 4th book in the Left Behind series, takes off where book 3 left off with the further adventures of Buck Williams, Rayford Steele and co. as they fight against the antichrist Nicoloe Carpathia. Now I loved the first 3 books, but this one left me a little puzzled. There was not really all that much happening in this one.It was a very easy read, in fact i read it in just over a day, it's almost too easy though and not very challenging. There is a bit of redundant writing in this one, over a period of 8 or so pages, the author describes 3 different people as being "in great shape", I thought this was quite lazy writing. I'm a pre-trib rapture believing Christian,(phew), so adhere to the basic beliefs of the story. I was as a Christian however quite perplexed by the behaviour of the main charecters. It seems in fighting against the antichrist, the heroes have to lie an awful lot! I always thought lying was a sin, but these guys do so at seemingly every turn. I understand that many times there lives were at stake, but still, upholding Christianity means being truthful I always thought. Overall, I enjoyed reading it, but hope the series improves and that the charecters learn a bit more on how to suffer and still hold true to their convictions. Thanks for reading my comments.

Bigger than Ben Hur? I don't think so!, April 12 2004
Ben Hur, William Wyler's best film, captured 11 Oscars in the year it was released. This feat remained until Titantic came along and was also matched this year by Lord of the Rings:Return of the King. I'ts easy to see why this film did so well, it is brilliant in almost every way. For those who don't know, Ben Hur tells the tale of a young prince of Judah named Judah Ben-hur, (Charlton Heston), who has a falling out with his boyhood friend Messala, (Stephen Boyd), that has dramatic repercussions. After an accident involving his sister and a Roman Governor, Judah and his family are locked away by Messala. This begins an epic story of faith and struggle. Judah ends up in as a galley slave on a Roman vessel. After he saves the lifeof the new Roman leader on the ship Quintus Arius, (a brilliant Jack Hawkins, Judah gains prominance as a Charioteer and gets his chance for revenge. Along the way, Judah has a few very moving meetings with Jesus of Nazereth, this scenes are some of the most touching of the movie. Charlton Heston gives a fantastic performance as does Stephen Boyd. It's an epic movie in every sense of the word and the chariot race is worth the price of the dvd alone. The only real weakness in this otherwise perfect film is the charecter Esther, (played by Haya Harareet), I really wish they cast Jean Simmons or Deborah Kerr in this part. Ben Hur deserves it's reputation as one of the greatest epics of all time and is worth repeated viewers, like a fine wine it seems to get better with age. I look forward to watching it every year at Easter time. Happy viewing.

DISTURBING SPACE OPERA, April 6 2004
Star Wars tells the sad and tragic tale of Luke Skywalker and his unrequited love. Luke, (Mark Hamill before he hit it big as the voice of the the joker in the animated Batman series), falls out with his uncle and aunt over the fact that they will not let him join the reballion against the evil empire. Later, when Luke's aunt and uncle are burnt to a crisp by the empire's henchmen the stormtroopers, Luke is set free to follow his dreams to join the reballion. Obi-wan Kenobi, (the late great Alec Guiness), convincing him to help a princess whom Luke has taken a fancy too, ("who is she, she's beautiful"). Now I have to admit, falling in love with a hologram is a little strange, but I guess it could happen. Here is where things get really sick. Throughout the trilogy, Luke's feelings grow for the Princess, (played by a ravishing Carrie Fisher), they even share a passionate kiss in the sequal the Empire Strikes back, but as we the viewer finally get to part three we find out she is his sister! Talk about a shock, I was hoping Luke would win Leia's heart, then Kapow!! Obi-wan tells Luke she is his sister. How did that all happen? To make matters worse, when Lukey tells sister she says, "I know, somehow I've always known". She knew she was frenching her brother? Now George Lucas is responsible for making the superb "Howard the Duck", so I might give him the benefit of the doubt, but basing a whole series of movies on this disturbing premise is not that responsible, especially for a movie made for children. Now I enjoyed the antics of that english robot, and his buddy the round thing was a scream as well, but that C3B9 guy was obviously a rip-off of the tin man from "wizard of oz", on that subject so was that Tobacco guy, can anyone say cowardly lion? (...) In summing up, watch these films on dvd, the wider the screen, the bigger the jabba, and remember not to take things so seriously!!

an interesting yarn, April 6 2004
Looney Tunes:back in action is a family film combining live-action (starring Brendan Fraser, Jenna Elfman, Steve Martin)animation (Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Yosemete Sam and more). The basic plot is that Daffy has been thrown out of Warner Bro's and must be rehired, meanwhile he's teamed up with security guard, Fraser) in order to rescue the guard's father from certain death! I enjoyed this film. I won't spoil any of the jokes for you but watch out for Timothy Dalton's charecter, it's very amusing how it's done. My favourite scene was with all the aliens attacking, you'll recognise beasts from such films as "robot monster", the brain creature from "this island earth", and even my favourite Daleks put in an appearance. Any film with Daleks in it is great in my book! Very entertaining family friendly film.

I wanna live in star's hollow!, April 5 2004
My Saturday nights at the moment consists of getting pizza delivered and watching the Gilmore Girls. I kid you not!! My wife and I love this show, heck we are even sending our daughter to a private school when she grows up so she can end up like Rory! (I know, it won't happen). What a great kid she is, a brilliant role model for teenagers today, and what a great relationship she has with her mother. It's great to see a wholesome show like this one on at the moment. And it's very entertaining as well. The script is razor sharp. How these girls eat so much and stay so slim I'll never understand though!! Cmon, sing it with me, "If your out on the road, feeling lonely and so cold, all you have to do is call my name and I'll be there on the next train....."

A good book to stir you to change., April 5 2004
I have read this book several times, mainly when I feel I need a wake-up call. Michael Brown has written a powerful book here against sin and for holiness, something that is woefully lacking in the contemporary church. I like the way he challenges our choices in entertainment also, it's strange what professing christians choose for their entertainment. He really paints an ugly picture of sin and gives some good practical advice on how to avoid it. He quotes extensively from the puritan writers such as John Owen, and from Charles Spurgeon the great preacher of the 1800's. I highly recommend that you get your hands on as many books on holiness as you can and search your heart as society today is headed for hell and wanting to take you with it! Thanks Michael Brown for writing this, it spurred me on to better things and encouraged me to study this oft-neglected subject. I also recommend the writings of Jerry Bridges on this subject, and check out the puritan sermons as well.

Better than Gladiator., April 5 2004
Victor Mature makes a better gladiator than Russell Crowe in this sequal to "the Robe." Join Demetrius in his journey as he battles gladiators, tigers, Caligula, and most dangerous his feelings for the wiley and seductive Susan Haywood. What makes this movie so entertaining is the moral dilemma he faces, and his fall and redemption. This is a real man facing real temptations in an immoral world, much like we are in today. Jay Robinson makes a welcome return as the emperor Caligula, chewing up the scenary with his wonderful performance. This is like gladiator with heart.
