good book, just ignore the details, Feb 14 2004
This is a great book, and I have used it extensively in my home for homeschooling and also for helping along the education of my child in school. I warn readers though to read without taking too much of it seriously-- while the resources listed are good, and the ideas about classical education are also excellent, the way in which the author suggest these ideas be accomplished are little over the top. Please ignore the scheduling part altogether and remember that NOBODY does all of the things suggested. A better reource is the Well Educated Mind.

Totally stinks, Feb 13 2004
I bought this in a desperate moment of wanting to be more organized with my homeschooling, (we all ahve those moments) and since it is the only one out there I thought I would give it a try. It is alful. There is no binding, no colorful front, and the pages are basically copied and thrown in a box. The copies are even crooked on the page! The price for this is outlandish considering the product and I really regret buying it. PLease don't waste your money, you are better off creating your own-- if you are worried that yours will be too unprofessional or will look too homemade-- don't. That is exactly what this one looks like. This is an absolute waste of money that could be better spent. Een a teacher's plan book would be better than this. In short, don't waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a lactation consultant, I recommend this book to every, Feb 8 2004
mother with a new baby who is ambivalent about going back to work. With the rising cost of mediocre child care, it is impossible for most people to justify the expense of going to work. Being with mom is an inherent need that all babies have, and it is just as important to meet this need as it is to feed them. This book is wonderful, and I highly recommend it. R>L>W.

excellent resource, Feb 7 2004
As a lactation consultant, I get a lot of questions about dieting. Dieting is not something you want to do while breastfeeding-- and frankly, nto something you want to do to your body at all. (Remember the rule-- if you can't do it while breastfeeding then maybe it isn't healthy to do anyway!) Don't diet-- change your lifestyle. This book is perfect for mothers looking for sound advice about how to lose weight, while breastfeeding and while not.

EXCELLENT RESOURCE, Mar 2 2003
This book is great for the Missouri traveler on a budget, or for homeschooling parents looking to add adventure to the school day. Some of these would make great two or thre day weekends. The best book I have found for Missouri.

good book, super religious, Sep 15 2002
Definately a Christian-oriented book, super religious, but if that is for you, this was a nice, gentle introduction to homeschooling andlearning about things that interest the child. Nice pictures

ok book, but hopefully you can find better, Sep 15 2002
This book did help my son learn to read somewhat, but he was by no means a "reader" when we were done with it, and we had to supplement with other things to get him really reading. The system taught is so specific to the DISTAR program that you can't really quit in the middle if it isn't working for you. ALso, the lessons are dreadfully boring, and were painful to get through, for both my son and for me. We had to promse a trip to 6 flags to him to motivate him to finish it! Might work for some, but didn't do much for us.

great way for the kids to see how others homeschool, Sep 14 2002
My son is 8 and so is the main girl in this book, so I think he could relate. Both my children liked this book, and I thought it was worth buying ... On the parent's side, the amount of things this family gets done in one day was a little intimidating! But it was a good, positive read for the kids.

small house but made room, July 3 2002
I live in a very small house with large boys, and this one is worth keeping on the shelf-- leans toward Conservative Christianity, but as a liberal Christian, found it tolerable-- worthy buy -- even as a new book!

helpful book, worth a read, Jan 29 2002
I found this book to be a pretty good read. I was looking for something to reaffirm our decision to homeschool, and it didn't do tha for me as much as I would have liked, but it was really interesting, and although it doesn discuss the bad aspects of going to school, it isn't down on school at all-- just helps people recognize where problems might lie and helps to address those issues. I think this is a great book for all parents, those homeschooling and those traditionally schooling-- any parent that is interested in helping thier child learn to love to to learn will find this book to be full of good information.
