5.0 out of 5 stars Michael's Purpose In Life, July 20 2004
There is no better documentary about Michael Jackson. This was perfectly produced and masterly narrated. I've yet to see a portrail of Michael's life that is more inspirational. The words from Michael's wise old friends are so poignant: Katherine Hepburn, Sofia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Kelley, Sammy Davis Jr., and Fred Astaire's choreographer; they too are all in awe of this amazing performer and humanitarian. But my favorite sequence is the one put to "We're Here to Entertain You", the song that no one talks about but is absolutely beautiful and deeply personal to Michael Jackson. Yes, God put him here not only to entertain us, but more importantly he's a philosopher who has risen to prominence because of his show-buisness talents.

3.0 out of 5 stars This album doesn't show off Steve's usual electricity, Jan 3 2004
This review is from: Elements (Audio CD)
For the most part I was disappointed by this album. I wanted another Natural Timbre and got a less that thrilling work by a man who usually delivers. It's true this album has many styles, as Steve Howe says in the album liner, "combining...rock and roll, the blues and later jazz... to explore how progressive rock developed its own personality." however I don't think he was very successful at conveying how wonderful these Elements can be.

3.0 out of 5 stars An epic only because needless segments weren't cut, Dec 21 2003
This review is from: Spirited Away (DVD)
This movie drags on with very few moments to keep you interested. I think it is cultural differences, though Japanese animation is truely inferior to Disney classics. However I give it three stars because the director seemed to put his heart into it and tried to be as original as possible. The sad thing is, with all its originality it hardly entertained me or moved me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The finest tribute to a great man, Nov 18 2003
I was very happy while reading this book. I found all the things Walt's aquaintances had to say about him very interesting and credible. Very little seemed sugar coated (as Disney personel seem to be sometimes). I would make the assumption that Walt's personality was portrayed correctly by the many people that knew him. Throughout the course of reading this book I kept thinking about the quote that one amazon reviewer said that made me buy this book in the first place, "makes me wish I knew that man."

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful insight into the philosophy of Walt Disney, Oct 26 2003
This book is exactly as one would expect by reading the title. It's just quote after quote from people who knew Walt Disney best. I liked that many of his former employees were interviewed. Since I was familiar with some of the animators, imagineers, and actors it made it a more personal thing for me when reading this book. There are also many pictures that show Walt during all the different periods of his life, though the majority of them are during his successful years heading the Disney corporation. I share the sympathy of another reviewer who said that after reading this book they wished they had known Walt Disney. I think a person who really admires the Disney empire will share the same sentiments about the man who dared to dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't pass up this guitar collection - great stuff, Sep 8 2003
This is a wonderful collection of guitar music. I thought it would be just guitar but there are lovely, lush, orchestral accompaniments that give you much enjoyment for the price of this CD. You can expect to hear the standards by Vivaldi and Bach, as well as modern great guitar compositions by De Falla and the Romeros.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best rock-pop album since Fastball's "HarshLight of Day", Aug 7 2003
This review is from: Songs About Jane (Audio CD)
I noticed that this disk came out over a year ago. Yet only now are they getting noticed on MTV with the single "Hard to Breathe". This is pretty amazing because these guys are a perfect rock-pop band for the tubes. I guess it took time for the wave of rap-rock to depreciate. I wish nothing but the best for this band. Perhaps a little too poppy for my taste, but they have great songs never-the-less. And the singer has a great unique voice; very soulful like Jamiroquoi. I could only hope MTV embraces more bands like Maroon 5.

2.0 out of 5 stars Janet Jackson's music is nothing special, Aug 3 2003
This review is from: Velvet Rope (Audio CD)
I feel guilty for writing this review because this really isn't the type of music I listen to. I'm a little off kilter and so instead of making Janet look more respectable I found "The Velvet Rope" to be betraying to her. I didn't take this effort of hers very seriously, and except for a couple songs, I didn't take the music seriously either. I wonder where Janet would be if not for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I'm sure she has had some input of course but not enough to make her a viable artist. Janet is exclusively an Entertainer, just like her brother, and if not for her intoxicating charisma she wouldn't be making albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Here's what the high-brow has to say about Gavin..., Aug 2 2003
This review is from: Chariot (Audio CD)
Pop records bore me to death. The truth is that hook-laden songs have no substance. There is nothing to enjoy after the 3rd or 4th listen. I only got Gavin's new CD because I really didn't know that it was a pop record. I read his article in the July issue of Keyboard magazine and convinced myself he might be worth listening to. He talked about artists like Jeff Beck and Van Morrison. He talked about making inspiring records like his influences had. Keyboard's staff writer declared that this kid was a supreme songwriter who was devoted to his craft. Although "Chariot" was a shot in the dark I'd say my expectations were right on the mark. I immediately drew a comparison to the immortal Jeff Buckley. Gavin can sing, and his voice truely saved this album from being another pop record. But as for being a great songwriter I think I would have liked a little more instrumental integrity and variety; his straight forward rock riffs won't get him very far with music fans like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good DVD, a great CD, July 30 2003
Actually 5 stars for the CD, 4 stars for the DVD. The DVD is ok in that you get to see the master in action. But Rick Wakeman is more for the ears than the eyes. The set looks a lot like the "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" set. This is all you see, along with Rick's keyboards and such. Sure he tells jokes, but his accent's heavy and it is English humor afterall. The CD is phenomenal with superb playing and outstanding compostitions by the man himself, which outshine the classics such as "Canon in D", "Claire de Lune", "Help" & "Elenor Rigby".
