5.0 out of 5 stars hairbrush divas - the legend!, Sept. 12 2006
This review is from: 40 Golden Motown Greats (Audio CD)
this is a really special album for me.

in my teens, my sister & myself used to babysit for neighbours, who were pretty hip, they had a copy of this on vinyl, & we were the original hairbrush divas to this album, really!

loved every track, & listening back to these songs, just brings it all back, a real good times album!

one of the first "babe-band"s - who were totally cool for their time, and now totally classic!

5.0 out of 5 stars back in the day....., Aug. 23 2006
best compilation by donna,

has all those great classic disco tracks, & they all lead into one another nicely, with that fabulous funky energy from electro keyboards.

i love the full length version of the title track best,

& also the 12 min version of "no more tears" - i originally owned this on vinyl, it was originally sold as two single packages, versions 1 & 2, so good its been combined to two.

was also great to hear those real old-skool '70s tracks, ie, "i remember yesterday" & "try me, i know we can make it" really took me back!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfecto!, Aug. 17 2006
This review is from: Shoot the Moon (Audio CD)
this is perhaps my fave judie album, ever, tho tying with "the cruise" - i had a vinyl version & have desperately awaited this cd release, so am delighted!

other faves are "ritmo", "road noise" (for "'til dawn", "for you" & "hunter") & "cat is out"

back to "moon" : the title track is the most gorgeous song ever, with judie's beautiful trademark harmonies, but virtually ever track here i love, as with "the cruise".

judie is one of my fave artists ever, a sterling combination of perfect vocals, haunting music, beautiful lyrics & true, genuine artistry. wherever you are judie, luv yer!

5.0 out of 5 stars leaves one with a deep sense of haunting evocation to heart & mind............, July 31 2006
This review is from: Pink Floyd the Wall (VHS Tape)
whilst this movie on one hand has horrific imagery, it is also top quality graphic art.

it explores depths of human psyche rarely seen before or since.

it leaves a deep haunting in the mind & heart, incredibly evocative, i first watched this when first released in 1982 & it left me with a profound feeling of sadness & sorrow but also familarity with the imagery & suggested subject matter.

i watched it with an adult eye for the first time recently and realised fully what an incredible, ground-breaking, deeply inteligent & creative piece of work it is, exploring depths of human emotional & mental sensitivity with incredible bravery & honesty, which touches the heart in a unique, original & haunting way that you never forget.

always wanted to see this movie, & it didn't disappoint!

paul kaye is a comic act genius!

& bernard cribbens as grandad was totally sweet!

a totally hilarious romp through lawn bowling becoming an international champion sport, with kaye's techniques lighting up the screen! pure brilliance!

5.0 out of 5 stars flows in smooth strokes!, July 31 2006
i have never seen the film, so my mind was completely open to the literaries, this book was one of the most pleasant and smoothly worded books i have read for a long time.

the descriptives were beautiful, the period elegantly evoked, and the artistic brushstrokes flowed wonderfully, thoroughly enjoyed this, read in about three days whilst chillin in the glorious summer sunshine!

5.0 out of 5 stars a cult classic - end of story!, July 22 2006
This review is from: London Calling (Audio CD)
cult classic - end of story

the cover art launched a thousand copycats - one of the coolest sleeve pics of all time!

the songs: title track - pure brilliance!

train in vain - great song.

i love all the other songs, it is a brilliant package, doesn't disappoint on any level.

had my first copy on vinyl aged 15, & count these boys among my first teen crushes, & they gave punk "a heart"!

four horsemen is a cult classic.

i just love this album - is not necessarily my fave clash album as i could never choose between this or combat rock or sandinista, as they're all brilliant.

this band were one of the best rock bands of all time, up there with U2, depeche mode, but in their own right, & on their own terms - totally cool! one of the penultimate '80s Rock Albums!

4.0 out of 5 stars not for the faint-hearted!, July 17 2006
This review is from: Breathe In (Audio CD)
"breathe in" is a totally gorgeous upbeat song, the more i hear it, the more i love it.

i was attracted to this album really as it was recommended by judie tzuke, one of my fave artists ever, & who co-wrote many of the tracks here & was a great influence on lucie artistically, as a mentor.

i was pleasantly surprised, as tho the album in entirety can sound a little "syruppy", it does in fact contain some beautiful melodies, very touching & mesmerising.

"nothing else matters" always loved the metallica version, & this is a nice testimony to it.

"forget me not" is perhaps the most beautiful song, here, & is incredibly touching.

this album is not for the faint-hearted, as its emotional quality is optimum!

5.0 out of 5 stars timeless!, July 11 2006

i'd say this song has well stood the test of time, and is in my view, one of, if not the best pop songs ever!

a great dance/party track, timeless meaningful lyrics,

marc's wonderful vocal style, those infectious electro beats & the unforgetable visuals of the duo with their floppy dark '80s wedge cuts & thick black eye crayon, bangles & black nail polish.

marc was, & still is, to my mind, a true '80s icon!

total nostalgic indulgence, as well as just being a great record!
