2.0 out of 5 stars Not for those with lacking scientific knowledge..., July 20 2004
I am the first person to admit that my science knowledge is limited. It ends on a college freshman physical science level. I thought that this book could give me a better grip on science by using a topic I enjoy to explain it. Well, the science is poorly explained for those of us who are science dummies. I tried to keep up but just couldn't. And on top of that the text is dry. The most interesting part of the book are the introductions for each character. I will not lie to you, halfway through the book I started to read only the introductions and skipped the rest. I am glad that I borrowed it from a friend. Don;t waste your money, and if you just REALLY REALLY need to read it because you are an X-Men fan then check your local library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skeptic turned believer..., July 20 2004
I picked this book up with skepticism, poetry from a famous rocker, such a cliche. There are so many of them out there with poetry books. What surprised me is how deep his poetry is. It makes you think and actually try to get into his mind to find secret messages and trap doors. There are several previous comments that rate this book lower than 5 starts because it is hard to understand. Well, poetry is supposed to be hard to understand. It is supposed to make you think. For what other purpose would it exist?

4.0 out of 5 stars A small treasure..., July 20 2004
I don't want this to become another plot summery. There are too many of those anyway. When I found this book I was happy to find a graphic novel that does not present women in as sexual objects. Alita is a girl who can beat up any guy. Why I gave this book 4 starts is that author Yukito Kishiro is lacking something from her writing. I know that it was probably lost in translation. Yet I can't deny that it is a bit dry. Aside from this minor flaw the story is quite interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Off to college..., July 19 2004
My parents gave me this book as a gift before my first semester of freshamn classes and said, "Don't make these mistakes." Some mistakes are really funny, some are really sad, and others just plain stupid. Since then I have made a few typos myself when writing essay exams with a time constraint. These comments are belivable especially because with a time limit all students make a mistake now and then. It is a light hearted book and should be taken that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only for Goths!, July 19 2004
I picked this book up as soon as it came out a few years back. I have left my Gothness since then but I still enjoy Voltaire's work. It has a sense of humor and isn't afraid to make fun of everything. And I mean everything. It is an enjoyable diversion from reality and it won't make you dumb. Hmm, something uncommon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long but each page is worth it..., July 19 2004
I have read 6 different translations of this book starting with a children's version when I was 6. I know, that doesn't count. But the 5 other ones were full versions. I know that such a thick book can be intimidating but it is worth while. Each turn of the page feels like unwrapping a new gift. By the time you get to the end you will miss it and wish that it was even longer. This is the best translation that I have read thus far. This book is for anyone that likes to treasure their time with their books and is not for impatient people who just want to know the plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want an understanding of Political Ideologies?, July 19 2004
Anyone who has an interest in knowing more about Political Ideologies existing in this world needs to pick up this book. It is written in a language that is easy to understand by just anyone about a subject that could be made confusing by it. It is wonderfully organized. It is organized by ideology and each ideology is organized by sections such as Goals (the goals of the ideology), Structure, Citizenship, Rules, Authority, Justice, Human Nature, etc. It talks about the main thinkers of each ideology and the history and the historical context of each ideology. It aso includes overviews of recent, not fully developed ideologies such as Feminism, Environmentalism, and Fundamentalism. This book is for everyone who wishes to broaden their understanding of political ideologies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone interested in political ideology..., July 19 2004
One of the main writers on liberty, J.S. Mill is often overlooked in introductory courses in Political Theory courses. I bought this books as a supplement in my class and it was a wonderful read that gave me an advantage. This book contains some of Mill's best work and the notes added by Schneewind give them an extra dimention and a few explanations that I am glad I had.

1.0 out of 5 stars Let me give you some advice..., July 19 2004
A Book of Shadows is supposed to be of personal growth. I went out and bought a pretty notebook when I fist started. Then I started doing research. It turned out that I did some research on history of Wicca then started doing research on the Gods. Well, I found out that there was more to history that I bargained for and I had no room to add anything. Best answer? Save everything on your computer, you can always add stuff and keep everything neat and organized and if you really need a hard copy of everything organize it in a three ring binder. You will be able to move pages around and if sporadically a new topic comes up or stems from a new one, creating a new section will be as easy as adding a new divider. And if you have too much information to fit into one folder get another one, you can move pages from folder to folder easily and they will always be by topic. Use your money that you save by buying a book to read and educate yourself on Wicca/Paganism or whatever.

3.0 out of 5 stars Her way of being a witch..., July 17 2004
This review is from: Witch Alone New Ed (Paperback)
She teaches how to be a witch in 13 moon which is a good idea and she has some great excersizes and ideas but she teaches her way of being a witch. There is nothing wrong with that but the reader has to realize that there are many other ways to practice witchcraft and her way is not THE way to do it. Sometime I get the feeling that she feels like her way is the only way. I enjoyed the book because it had some new ideas in it and some of the excersizes helped me along my way but I would not reccommend this book to a begginer. At least read 5 or 6 other books from good authors (not Silver Ravenwolf, please because she will mislead a begginer more than any other author I can think of) before tackeling this one. I would recommend it to anyone that has been studying for a year or so because it helps understand just how different the practice of magic can be.
