Let's Not Forget Grand Prix!!, July 25 2007
Clearly, Super Speedway is a well-crafted documentary and belongs in every CART/F1 fan's DVD library. Very cheap price for the extraordinary images and sounds that few have captured before. But let's not forget the 40th anniversary issue of John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix". This is the first time it has been digitally re-mastered and made available on DVD, and the picture quality and sound is stunning! Frankenheimer was the FIRST to mount bulky 70mm Panavision cameras directly to F1 cars while the actors themselves drove the cars. For sure, the character development / love stories sort of get in the way, but for the true race fan, it doesn't get any better than Grand Prix (incl. LeMans and Bullit). The last climatic race at Monza is simply incredible, and is the FINEST race footage ever filmed. There are special features that should really be seen FIRST before watching the movie, these include "the making of" as well as interviews with actors who were in the film, and pro drivers like Sir Sterling Moss, Dan Gurney, and Sir Brabham. These are RECENT interviews; not old re-hashed stuff. So it is my humble opinion that you also get the "Grand Prix" DVD where it all began, as well as "Super Speedway".

One of My Favorites, Jun 16 2004
I have almost all the SG CD's. When I first got this one, I had my doubts. But after playing it a few times through, it is now one of my favorites...it stays in the CD tray. I just wish I could see them live here in Houston sometime.

Didn't Buy, Jun 16 2004
I've been a fan of LC's since his first album, and I used to buy albums and CD's without review. But after buying a few that just didn't do it for me, I'm a little more carefull. I went through the samples...of course the first song is all sax. Who chooses these samples?! I want to hear Larry! I went through the other samples and I just didn't hear the technical smoothness that I like. Maybe I'm just not a big blues fan. I really prefer Larry's work on the Four-Play CD's.

So-So, Jun 28 2003
With all the hoopla and praises heaped upon this Steely Dan CD, I was expecting another Aja, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. Although it is a return (of sorts) to the formula that made the older Dan recordings so awesome, there's just nothing there that makes we want to hear it again. Their attempt seems somewhat lack-luster, but then again, Steely Dan at their worst is better than many others best. Perhaps I should give it more time and a closer listen, but initially, I could have passed on this CD. Was probably a "nostalgia" buy.

Pretty Darn Good!, Jun 19 2003
Keeping this short, this CD does not disappoint...it's the style of Rippingtons music that I like to hear and buy. The addition of the REAL horn section is fantastic; I just wish it hadn't taken Russ so long to finally add into his music. Let's face it, Russ is not going back to the days of St. James Place, and it would be unfair to tie him to the sound of his yester-year. Russ is so good that there's complexity even in his simplest riff. This is great work by a GREAT band; just be glad Russ and the guys are still recording and touring!

Confusing, Jan 17 2003
As a "newbie" to FCP and NLE, I have found this book to be confusing. I usually don't find a clear and understandable answer to my question or problem, and I have to go elsewhere.

A GREAT LIVE ALBUM!!, April 15 2002
I second most of the other reviewers that this is a very good Ripp album. Personally, I was sort of getting burned out on the same old CD after CD, but this one is very good indeed. Quality is great, though I would have preferred abit more room ambience be mixed in. Having seen the Ripps several times in concert (my first was with release of "Kilamanjaro"), I found this recording to be quite faithfull to the spirit of the Rippingtons. Like another reviewer, I did NOT like the addition of "Purple Haze" and "Fire". They played these during their summer tour through Houston last year, and I really couldn't understand why everyone got so excited about their playing these tunes. Of course, Russ is as good as any guitarist past or present, but to retro back to Hendrix didn't impress me. I probably would have preferred to hear him copy some Stevie Ray Vaughn numbers; at least those have a blues background. Russ' version of "Star Spangled Banner" is okay I guess, but no one can do like Jimi did! But all things considered, this is a great CD!!! Don't hesitate to buy it!!

Fantastic!, Oct 10 2001
I only wish Claus would do another album like this! By the way, you can hear his orchestra arrangements in Diana Krall's album "The Look of Love" (which I just bought and can't wait to receive)!

Original, Dec 5 2000
This is my first Shawn Mullins CD and I'm glad to say that I enjoy it thoroughly. I find his music creative and lyrics written from the soul. "Someone To Believe In" is my favorite, and one of the lines in lyrics is about going from radio station to radio station giving interviews and plying an acoustic tune or two on the air. As it turns out, he played "Something To Believe In" on the air here in Houston, and I knew I had to have this guy's CD. I look forward to buying his previous CD's as well.

Big Disappointment, July 16 2000
Desparately in need of some new music, I was very glad to find a new Steely Dan CD while on a long driving trip. However, this CD is just an uninspired collection of tunes. All of them are awful; none have a distinct hook as per earlier SD efforts. I actually just threw the CD away; it's that bad.
