Watchable, Feb 19 2003
I recommend to rent the movie, but not to buy it. My main problem with this movie is the script. What is the deal with the riot on the boat? Half of the movie they show us how bad is the 1st captain (Ford) and the second half he is the hero. But during all the 1st part he created the problems that cause the death of his crew members. The other weakness of the movie is that it failed to show how fanatically people believed in the Communism, that they were doing right things although through huge amount of dead bodies. Probably movie makers need more consultants in order to create a real good movie. I think in the real situation the riot on the boat is ended with the death of the captain or the riot crew, at least that what happened at the old times. All this riot plot is looks like a Hollywood fantasy.

Coltrane is great - movie is weak, Jan 2 2003
Coltrane and his music is really genius. The same I expect from the movie about him. Why I consider it weak: 1. It is only 60 min and not all the time is for his music. DVD can fill > 3 h. 2. Comments are interrupting his performance. The sessions are cut at the middle. I think I need to wait for DVD writer and create the movie that I want by myself. I want to have whole session of performance from Jazz Casual (weak picture, but the sound recording is good). I want to see as much as possible from Kind of Blue, My Favorite Things, Giants Steps and Love Supreme. I saw the parts from these sessions but I want to have all of it. I don't care that the picture can be weak, but I want to see Coltranes fingers and hear his sax. Also for music DVD it should be the option to play only music without comments, because after couple of times you probable want to hear only music and not listen to the story.

Take the intrerview out!!!, Jun 20 2002
...The music is really great. Coltrane is so awesome that his music magnetizes, you can't even put it at the background: it takes all your attention. Now the problem is that the interview is very poor... I think that even with talented interviewer the musical DVD should have the option to skip the dialogs and to choose to play the music only. It is also strange that the sound recording not as good as it supposed to be and the video picture is sometimes very dirty. Don't buy this DVD. Somebody needs to remake this DVD and make some cleaning of it.

Very pour edition., Mar 12 2002
Don't buy Deluxe Edition, buy Remastered Edition. Remastered edition is 24-bit transfer, Deluxe ed. is the original. In the Deluxe Ed. the CD is in the carton leave (they wanted it as in LP), unfortunately to take and return CD can scratch it. The music is Grate, Coltrane is the big master.

Music is great, but the sound is pour, Dec 6 2001
This is my 1st CD of Lester Young. Unfortunately it has a very bad sound. I bought this with Ken Burns JAZZ Collection logo hoping that TV guys edited the sound to meet the new age audio requirements, but I mistaken. I suggest try something else with the better quality. The sound is so bad that I can listen it only on my computer, not on Home Theater.

Very nice CD, Aug 15 2000
I love this CD. It is very soft and relaxing. There is almost no avangard stuff, but very nice piano jazz. I very recomend it.
