4.0 out of 5 stars A Terrefic Singer- Song Writer, Oct. 24 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A terrific singer and this set shows her diverse skills as a performer. Country roots, pop rock cross over and superb writing. I saw her in concert very recently, and she is a top level performer... her show was one of the best value for money events. Buy all her music; you will not be disappointed. She is special amongst artists, and has a unique style transcending musical trends over the years.

3.0 out of 5 stars War action movie., Oct. 24 2015

It is a pretty good movie with some good actors, but really could have been a lot more than it gave. Exciting action scenes. A good comparator stylistically is Guns of Navarone- a very different plot though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good concept, Oct. 24 2015

Not as spectacular as I would have thought...... the size diminishes the perspective. It needs to be at least twice the size.Good concept just too small a surface for displaying. Tin was a little too thin.... signs of minor creasing up close.

4.0 out of 5 stars Speedwagon is awesome..., Sept. 5 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a big REO Speedwagon fan from their early rock roots to more pop songs... their ability to stay current in the 60's through to the 80's reveals their diversity of style. They had many great songs and ones that resonated with the public giving them a number of hits. They seem to reach a climax in the 1990's which is not really surprising.. they nonetheless had a good run, and with changes in the band composition it kept their musical style fresh every decade. I particularly love "Ridin' The Storm Out" which is not on this album, and "In Your Letter" and "Take It On The Run" which are on this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spy movie with calculating revenge as the focal point, Aug. 5 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It is a while since I first saw this movie, but as I watched realized why it was so memorable. The acting is very good and the plot reasonably good. It is an entertaining drama. If you have never seen it before, it has great suspense. Based on a novel by Ludlum and has Hopper, Hurt & Lancaster in leading roles. It is a stylistically an 80's movie- at the centre of the plot is the cold war with Russia; so it could be classified and typed-caste as a spy movie although it is more about revenge. Blu-ray format did not really add much quality to the movie- still quite grainy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shoot-em up Mexican Revolutionary Movie with superb acting..., July 28 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Set in the early 1900s in Mexico depicting the revolutionary conflict. It was a bit over the top but still credible for this genre of movie. The story is about as complex as you can get (or maybe want) for a western-style movie without making it ridiculous. The two main characters are unlikely comapadres, but it works on several levels. The flashbacks add another dimension to the film plot and character development. As a watcher it is hard to either relate to, or identify with either character- which really is strangely beneficial because it leaves the door open to unpredictable events & outcomes.

Another highly stylized Spaghetti Western largely filmed in Spain. It does not feel like Mexico but has that Spanish underpinning that gives it credibility. Leone is an expert at creating psychological drama especially with close-ups on the faces of the actors and uses added focus on the eyes to give greater depth to characters.

Overall I liked this movie.
There are moments of inertia but it is generally an action packed movie with good special effects for the period it was made. It was good that Clint Eastwood did not find his way into this movie- using Rod Steiger and James Coburn provided a fresh view of Leone's work and this character pairing is magical.

4.0 out of 5 stars Musical with good acting- good for all ages., July 25 2015

Not a high octane movie and really no sophisticated special effects- optimizes "less is more" concept. However a good solid musical and despite its age, weathers well. You will not be riveted to your seat, but the plot - such as it is- still sustains your interest. Great choreography and has a very talented cast. My first watch and I enjoyed every scene. Personification of animals with humanlike qualities is fantastic and you do not have to be an ozone ranger, vegetarian, or armchair naturalist to enjoy this movie which is excellent for all ages and personalities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Movie that sustains interest and good for intergenerational audiences.. if not a classic already, should be., July 24 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It is a wonderful movie with great acting and characterizations- refreshingly it is more sophisticated humour than most movies of this ilk... perfect in every way. My 7 year old grandson has fallen in love with it and recites lines and acts out the story, after only watching it once- obviously is a good watch for those wanting to watch suitable for an intergenerational audience. And, it could be viewed several times without being boring!

3 songs (2 versions of 1- Let Me Be Free). Expensive so value for money is questionable; however it is the quintessential 80's glam female rock song- in my opinion. Catchy song and beat!

2.0 out of 5 stars Described as "High Octane" - hmm, maybe, but not great execution., July 19 2015

This review is from: Surrogates (DVD)
The cinematography was fabulous, however; the plot was weak, the acting poor even from the normally strong performer, Bruce Willis. The special effects were just too simple and awkwardly incorporated into the storyline. At the beginning it seemed ponderously slow. I even fell asleep waiting the plot to get going.... there are much better films of this type of genre. I think rather than having this as part of my collection, I will pass it on to someone else; hopefully it will find a fan because I definitely am not one!
