Great show, decent dvd, mediocre image quality., Oct 12 2007
This show has been hard to get for many years. The only copies Ive ever been able to watch were VHS recordings from the original 1976 airing. So when I heard that this DVD was being released, I was pretty excited, although the fact it was being released by a small company had me skeptical as to what the quality would be like.
Upon inserting the disc, you are greeted with a warning that the video quality isnt going to be that great due ot the lack of good source materials. Now Im worried. I click play and away it goes...
So basicly, the picture quality is better (for the most part) than the old 'taped from tv' VHS copies Ive watched, but its still not that great. This DVD was obviously made from a video taped source, not from 16mm or 32mm film, so the image is very soft and blurry and has tons of video noise associated with old video tape transfers. There is also tape damage lines that quickly flash on the screen throughout the entire 50min long show. Also the contrast is pretty bad, the colors are flat and dull, and the blacks are all a murky grey. The 'taped from tv' copies Ive watched had considerably better color and contrast than this DVD, but over all, its definatly a step up from what was previously available.
So for the most part, its nice to see this show again, without all the glitches and missing pieces from the bootlegs that are floating around, but the image quality (flat color/bad contrast/soft and blurry) really makes it less than I had hoped for. I understand that the best source material may have been used, but geez man, a little tweeking with the contrast, and gamma correction before transfering to DVD would have done wonders for the video. But I guess its better than nothing. At least it comes in a decent package with art on the disc, and some extras. :)

Great animated series from Filmation, Sep 27 2007
I loved this series as a kid, and I still own the Super Powers VHS of Aquaman. I cant wait to get all of the episodes in the Complete Collection DVD.
One thing though... Whats up with the price?? Here on Amazon.ca its more than double the price that its listed for on Amazon.com (even with the preorder discount). Considering the CDN dollar is at PAR with the US dollar, something is not right here.
NOTE: Ive noticed there is another listing for Aquaman the Complete Collection, and the price seems a little more reasonable. This listing MUST be incorrect. Although, this listing has all the product info and package screenshot, the other listing is practically blank.
Someone at Amazon.ca needs to sort out all the incorrect DVD listings that are on this site.
