3.0 out of 5 stars Lively Music, Lyrics a little light, July 2 2004
This review is from: Musical Fairytale (Audio CD)
The music is 50's "Grease" style of music, and lively. The songs' lyrics are repetitive and mildly boring. "Looks like love, smells like love, tastes like love, feels like love, sounds like love, moves like love, sleeps like love, eats like love, etc... Give me a break!

4.0 out of 5 stars Elfquest vs Vietnam, May 26 2004
This review is from: Wizards (DVD)
Obviously the remnants of the anti-Vietnam sentiment, but still an interesting story to watch. The artisty is remisicent of Elfquest, but the storyline is a little slow. The still art while the narrator advances the story is annoying. I've been told that Bakshi, (already successful making the Fritz the Cat cartoons), wanted to make an animated Lord of the Rings. His backers said that they needed to see that an animated work about elves aimed at adults would succeed, so he made Wizards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lively and entertaining, May 5 2004
This review is from: Five Guys Named Moe (Audio CD)
Bright, lively songs. I'd like to see this if it ever comes to Toledo. My only minor complaint is the mixer didn't pay attention and the volume needs adjusting several times to either hear what's going on oe saving your eardrums.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rich music and incomplete scores, May 5 2004
This review is from: Mad about Cartoons (Audio CD)
The music is unusually rich and full, it will fill the room. My only complaint is the pieces are clipped. You only get William Tell from the "Lone Ranger" segment when the entire work has been used in cartoons. Other clips suffer the same way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sir William Gilbert reincarnated, May 5 2004
This review is from: Songs & More Songs By.. (Audio CD)
His tongue twisting lyrics and rapid fire humor are very reminiscent of Gilbert & Sullivan's works. They lack some of Gilbert's intense political jabs, but I even hear a bit of retired hippie hiding in the background. I wonder what he could do writing a musical?

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the Austrailian version is better, March 4 2004
This review is from: Boy From Oz (Audio CD)
The songs are lively, but I'm not impressed with Jackman's singing talent. The others are fair, but nothing to write home about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice music, but it needs a libretto, March 4 2004
This review is from: Wicked (Audio CD)
I read the book a couple of years ago. When I saw it had been made into a musical, I was curious. The songs and performers are lively and entertaining. My only complaint is the songs don't seem to follow the book. I know they'd have to modify and simplify the story, but I can't figure the changes. A small libretto would be a great assist.

5.0 out of 5 stars An under-rated gem!, Feb. 28 2004
This review is from: Cats Don't Dance (Bilingual) (DVD)
The music is livelier than Disney has had in years, the animation is crisp, clean, and a treat for the eyes. Randy Newman really shows that cats can dance, sing, and make you feel good. The animated cameos of golden age film stars (WC Fields, Mae West, Clark Gable), are iceing on a most delicious cake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining, Feb. 28 2004
This review is from: Allegro Non Troppo (DVD)
I'd seen this in college (about 1979?) as required for a music course. There were no Italian translations, and I mostly found it confusing. The DVD release has subtitles, and is most enjoyable. I especially found the "Best of" additional short works funny and mildly political (love/peace/green earth hippie ideals of the 1960's and 1970's). There's enough sexual content and mild nudity that I'd would suggest not for younger than 10 year olds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, and far better than Lion King 2/Simba's Pride, Feb. 11 2004
This review is from: Lion King: 1 1/2 (2 Discs) (DVD)
Lots of inside jokes, clever alternate views of the Lion King, lively music, who could ask for more?
