5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough...Very, very thorough--, April 24 2003
While this book is definitely for beginners mostly, it is very precise and thorough and gives the reader a very good, very well written overview of traditional/modern astrological methods. Incredibly recommended for the beginner/novice and even for those well versed in astrology--a quick, fun read well worth the time. This guy is a talented astrologer; you can just tell he knows what he is talking about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Elucidating, Feb. 20 2003
Well written, but lacking in particulars like planets in houses, specific aspects, ect. He doesn't make a distinction between a square and opposition, he just calls them 'dynamic.' While both aspects to tend to be aversive, they are aversive in different ways. Nevertheless, Arroyo is a talented astrolger, and I especially like the footnotes he included in this book, which refer you to other books he has found helpful in his studies. The books he recommends treat the topics he presnts in a general manner in a much nore specific way. There is no denying there is much relevant knowledge here, and that makes this book a quick read that wasn't expensive, either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Feb. 20 2003
This review is from: Touched With Fire (Paperback)
Jamison's book on the fascinating, yet controversial correlation between bipolar disorder and creativity is well written and thorougly researched. She is a bipolar, and psychiatrist as well, and she has basically devoted her life to the study of the disorder. Not only is the argument she presents thoroughly convincing, but in the end she leaves the question semi-open-ended, as any good writer/scientist should do. Certain chapters are tinged with her odd, delightful sense of humor, which is always nice: she is able to treat such a somber subject like bipolar with a refreshing clarity. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but Shallow Astrological Anthology, Feb. 20 2003
A good initiation into the art of chart delineation, though this book only skims the surface of the vast subject that is astrology. Is you are a beginner or novice astrologer, I would definetly recommend this to you. For those that seek to dig deeper, you could use this in adjunct with 'deeper' astrological texts--but this is absolutely not "The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need" because it is written using her point of view only.

2003 Astrological Calendar: Horoscopes for Everyone!
2003 Astrological Calendar: Horoscopes for Everyone!
by Bruce Scofield
Edition: Calendar

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, Feb. 20 2003
Since I am a triple Cancer, this calender has very much helped me to begin to chart my moods, which dramatically wax and wane with the cycles of the moon. It is very exact, and it lists the exact minute a planet enters a particular sign. (ie. Moon into Cancer 10:37 AM) It also has all of the major aspects occuring between ALL of the transiting planets, including some of the minor aspects as well. My only advice to anyone looking to buy this is: wait a little while into 2003 (or whatever year you're buying this for), and some bookstores or "Sun" shops will begin to unload these calenders for half-price, or even less!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Deep, Elucidating Interpretation of the Astrological Chart, Feb. 20 2003
Hickey's book on astrology has become one of recent the "Karmic" classics among the canon of astrological texts. It is well written and very precise, and it includes interpretations of every major aspect for every planet. My only complaint is that she focuses almost exclusively on Mars and Saturn as malefic, with almost no time spent focusing on the potential for growth offered by these two traditional 'devils.' Also, the same is true with almost all of the squares and oppositions (her interprtation being almost completely negative), so that part of her book can be a bit scary to the casual or new student of astrology. (take it from me) There is no denying that a Mars-Saturn conjunction is a 'bad' thing, but Hickey makes it sound as if it is the worst thing to ever happen. But all in all, it was very insightful and definetly worth 20 dollars; my only advice to Hickey would be--lighten up a bit!

Discovering Literature: Stories, Poems, Plays (2nd Edition)

3.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Anthology, Feb. 20 2003
Though this anthology by Guth and Rico is extremely overpriced, it is worth it if you can find it used. There is an excellent section on Flannery O'Connor, as well as a couple of decent sections on the poetry of Dickinson and Frost. Many of the classic plays are included as well, with an emphasis on Shakespeare. My only problem was the numerous grammatical errors that seem to pepper this lenthy edition; but with nearly 2000 pages, it would be impossible to copy every line perfectly, so I cut them some slack there. Hopefully, many of the typographical errors will be corrected in the 3rd edition--then I will be able to give this anthology 4 stars instead of 3.
