1.0 out of 5 stars Very Little Facts only Prose, July 3 2004
This review is from: Theodore Rex (Paperback)
Considering the length of this book, the reader should come away knowing a great deal about one of our greatest presidents. Unfortunately, Edmund Morris is writing in the same style as Michael and Jeff Shaara. The only difference is that the Shaaras lists their books as fiction. This book is filled with Morris' opinions and musings on what T.R. was thinking. This book was a waste of my time and should not be listed as a historical biography. If you want to read a book on T.R., then pick up Mornings on Horseback.

This is a very unique biography of Abraham Lincoln. As described in all the other reviews, this book focuses on Lincoln's ethical character. After reading this book, the reader should feel like we have so much more to give to this world that we live in. We should continue to develop ourselves so we can contribute to make this world a better place. Lincoln believed he could do that by proving to the rest of the world that democracy can survive and prosper. Everyone knows Lincoln was a kind and humble man. But the author not only describes Lincoln's ethical nature but provides many examples that proves to us time and time again what a wondersful exceptional man Abraham Lincoln really was. Everyone living in a free country should thank Abraham Lincoln for his ethical dedication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul of the Movie, March 29 2002
This review is from: Batman (Audio CD)
Not to be confused with Danny Elfman's instrumental release for the same movie, this soundtrack for the first Batman, is one of the best movie soundtracks ever released. Prince created a soundtrack that moves with the movie. It is not just a compilation of songs that you hear in the background of a movie, like many soundtracks that are hastily put together. This CD is full of dialogue from the movie and from Prince's imagination. Prince put a lot of heart, soul and funk into this recording.
Songs:
THE FUTURE is the opening song that sets the stage for the dark future that The Joker has in mind for Gothem. It full of techno, synthesized sounds that are held together with Prince's rhythm guitar.
ELECTRIC CHAIR comes out with hard guitar riffs by one of the greatest guitarist in the pop/rock world.
THE ARMS OF ORION - What a pretty song. It is sung as a duet between Bruce Wayne (Prince) and Vicki Vale (Sheena Easton). It is a soft, sad love song that is held together by the beautiful piano and a string section.
PARTYMAN - What more can I say except to quote Jack, "Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds!" Everyone listening to this can picture Jack Nicholson as the Joker strutting thru the museum with his henchmen and a boombox. Very Funky.
VICKI'S WAITING - Another dance track. The song is about Batman wondering if and when he should tell Vicki Vale that he is Bruce Wayne.
TRUST - Another upbeat dance track that was used when the Joker is riding on his float in a parade through downtown Gothem.
LEMON CRUSH - Club tune. The only song I can not envision in the Batman movie. Still a good tune.
SCANDALOUS - Love or Sex? Everyone who is a Prince fan knows this is one of his songs (Insatiable, Damn U, Do Me Baby, The Beautiful Ones, and Adore) that is great for romancing with the one you love. Great Song!
BATDANCE - Great Finale. Prince starts the songs with 3 loud guitar riffs, then the Joker speaks. He weaves Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, and Jack Nicholson into this song that incorporates all aspects of the movie.
This soundtrack has a soul of its own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Time for Heroes, Nov. 7 2001
A compelling story about the rescue of prisoners during World War II. This is a great book. It details the lives of many characters that are impacted by this portion of the war. First we learn of the horrors of the Bataan Death March, the horrific treatment of the prisoners and Philippine civilian by the ruthless Japanese soldiers. After reading these accounts, I do not sympathize at all with the people who protested the dropping of the Atom bombs on Japan. The book builds emtional ties with the many heroes that Hampton Sides describes. We realize that none of our bravery (except for the NYPD and NYFD) compare to the prisoners, Rangers, and many civilians that were involved in this event. Thank you, Hampton Sides for bringing this story to me.

A book about an exceptional human being who strives for humilty, honesty and self-improvement. Janet Lowe describes a man who is consistently striving to improve his mind and personality. Charlie Munger is that rare person who is dedicated to leaving this world a better place than it would have been if he never existed. Mr. Munger is one of the true great Americans that became great through intregrety and honesty. The values he lives by and teaches are values that guided the lives of Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln.
