There is something to be said about a band that has the ability to change the sound of their music on each album they put out. The Refreshments did it with their two releases (which I also highly recommend), as does Blues Traveler. Dishwalla is no exception. Their first album, "Pet Your Friends," gave us the great single "Counting Blue Cars," along with a whole album full of other great songs like "Miss Emma Peel" and "Charlie Brown's Parents." The second album, "And You Think You Know What Life Is About," was not as greatly received. It was a completely different sound, and one that, admittedly, I did not much care for. I think I listened to it once.
Dishwalla certainly make up for it with "Opaline." What a great sound for these guys. Many of the songs take on an almost "U2" type sound. It is a more mellow album, but JR Richards really lets his voice shine on this gem. Actually, it sounds as though everyone in the group put everything they could into the album. It is a full 45 minutes of enjoyment.
Sure, Dishwalla may not be a hugely popular band, but they certainly have their following, as they should. If you have never listened to this band, this would be a great CD to pick up. And if you ever get the chance, see them live. They put on a GREAT show!!!
And how can you go wrong with a band with a name like "Dishwalla." It's just fun to say...DISHWALLA...
