This movie is a perfect example of entertainment at its best. Nothing lacks: superb actors, good story, action, thrill, suspense, dialogues, magnificient pictures, exceptional camera work, great focus, good variety and choice of locations, good soundtrack, happy end with a morale... this movie was just made in quality. It's really close to perfection at its best.
Also, contrary to some other movies where the course of the story may be difficult to follow, in this one, the story unfolds in a very clear, pleasant way (even though the scenario is not simple, dealing with several places in time and space).
What I liked very much, infact, is the story itself, the gentlemanship of Nathan, who is so devoted to save his ex-partner Tom; he manages to save Tom by himself at his own risks, as the CIA stops for fear of political incidents.
So this movie is not only well filmed, it is also showing some of the good sides of human nature, which definitely adds to the pleasure.

A big thank you to Mel Gibson and team for this movie is really good !! I enjoyed it from start to finish. It is full of action, the scenario is good, the pace is perfect, the characters are great and sincere, the dialogues excellent, and also there is a permanent good humor. So everything is good in this war movie. Mel Gibson even managed to make me laugh on several occasions, and it's the first time I ever laughed during a war movie...
The whole movie is highly entertaining, and that's definitely the best war movie I've ever watched.

All in all, Perfect Storm is a rather entertaining action movie, based on a interesting true story, but there is something wrong, uneasy, and unreal in the atmosphere of the movie. The actors play quite well most of the time, but the scenario is too basic and the intrigue is not very good. The end of the movie is spoilt for several reasons: first the Weather Channel episode kills the suspense with the "special report", and then the actors are really not credible at the end. This is a problem, because in that sort of movie, the end is normally the climax of the story, the best part of it. Also there is another problem, because on several occasions, the movie contains stern moral statements about the fishermen and their family lives; it sometimes seems that the way of life of the fishermen is being tried, which is wrong in the context of that movie, especially because there is a lot of criticism, but not many constructive propositions. Finally I did not appreciate the depiction of the atmosphere in the ship's crew - the relatonships between people are tense, rather aggressive, so where is the legendary camaraderie of sailors ?? At one moment it gets even worse as one of the sailors is a blackman.

The story is interesting and well filmed.

The costumes are magnificent (direct from the museum I guess), the spectacles are well orchestrated, and Gerard Depardieu is in the cast, but the story is so sad; a lot of jealous people despise Vatelle, the cook; they will do all they can to prevent him from succeeding; he commits to pay his providers on behalf of his master; and at the end, the pressure on him is so strong that he just snaps and commits suicide. So Vatelle is a typically sad story.
That is why I didn't like it.

To begin with, I was nearly unable to start the movie on my PC !! That is because the menus are quite unusual and difficult to use. Also there are some strange guidelines like : « Watch out carefully when you see a shade (abat-jour in french) », « What are the keys », « Did you hear the title of the movie Adam is working on ? » etc. That is quite unusual on DVDs.
Concerning the movie itself, there are actually a few good elements in it, especially Naomi Watts who is able to simulate all the « états d'âme » of main character Betty and who renders them well ; however the general impression that emerges from Mulholland Drive is one of great sadness, especially near the end. The beginning is very confusing and depicts a sort of strange car crash at night, while a brunette called Rita is threatened by a man wielding a gun. She seems to be the only survivor, but instead of calling for help, she hides away and finally finds a refuge in a flat that she decides to squat. At this point, all the charaters seem to be staring in the darkness at some city lights below in the distance.
Then, the story proceeds with Adam Kasher not accepting Camilla Rhodes as the replacement for his main female role ; then later on he refuses Betty again (although Betty had been « prepared » in detail in the hands of another older man who simulates making love with her while she simulates having a virtual orgasm, in front of a crowde of movie makers); then blonde Betty and brunette Rita go together and discover love, while Adam's wife deceives him and invites Gene -from Clean Gene- to rape her at home, in the conjugal bed. Then Betty continues going down, carried by Rita who stimulates her and initiates her to Lesbianship, pulling out when Betty gets too carried away. As a result, Betty goes into a severe depression and finally seems to be reaching a place of her mind than even her parents would have avoided... Finally, the word of the end, which seems also to be the motto of the movie is « Silençio ». So all this depressing story ends up in the middle of a psychologic nowhere; that is to say, there is actually no end ; and because the beginning was an equally strange no-beginning, nothing much remains of this movie.
In fact I would warn depressed people from watching this movie. I found it so sad that I opened myself a bottle of Château Audinet french white wine which helped me gulp the story ; otherwise I do not think I would have been able to reach the end safely !!! (but remember alcohol may also be a health hazard)
As a conclusion, I do not understand what message this movie was supposed to carry, but whatever the message, it was not necessary to make such a sad movie to convey it.

A very beautiful movie to watch... Ok the plot is very simple, and when I looked at the DVD cover, my very first impression was that this movie would be too superficial; but being now an experienced movie buff, I realized that it was a wrong impression, and I was absolutely right !!! This movie is actually full of beautiful pictures and of lovely girls, but on top of that, it is actually very, very deep !!!! First it is mostly a "honest" movie; secondly, it contains lots of common sense ideas, back-to-basics; "Who said laurels were not a good place to rest ?"; "don't keep your head down ..."; "always smile...."; etc. etc. Also all the actors are doing great, especially Kirsten Dunst of course ..... . She wonderfully plays a complex Torrance character, a very gifted and generous person who can be either very self-confident or very full of doubts about herself, depending on the events and on the environment. She is really a great person ; so I only regret that her team does not win the competition in Florida at the end of the movie .... . Anyway, apart from that, I like the whole movie. Obviously some scenes are more important than the rest, like when some members of the team want to dismiss Torrance as the captain and her boyfriend Aaron stupidly supports this idea, only to hear that he is probably no valid "boyfriend material"; also the study of the competition between the mostly black team and the predominantly white team must be an interesting moment for psychologists I suppose... Well anyway there is plenty of good things to say about this movie... Most importantly, it is a good movie to improve your heart beat... the whole movie sort of casts a ray of light and of good humor upon you; and it definitely covers so much on top of Cheerleading. Cheers, Cheerleaders !!!!

What's wrong with this movie ?? I find it difficult to explain, but there's really nothing appealling in it ... I really had a hard time watching it ... It is also disappointing because it is very different from the other Spielberg movies, which are often very bright. I don't know how I managed not to drop before the end (probably because I was still and again hoping for something pleasant to happen). I really find the whole story exhales a huge sadness. It's very cold too. I just hope to never, never get into such a world.

This is an interesting movie. The actors are really doing great, in that they manage to create the perfect atmosphere for this kind of movie. Great job !! This is also a good Leelee Sobieski movie, though maybe not her best. Anyway, the movie is still great. Don't bother why the two brothers get this stupid idea at the beginning, just enjoy the intrigue. It is also an original story and you should not wish it to happen to anybody; it must take a long time to recover from such a motel nightmare !!

This is a very good movie, set in middle-class America, and it would be difficult to classify it as it includes a bit of science-fiction, lots of nostalggy, some action, some drama, etc. etc. The strong points of that movie: an original and interesting story (even if the pace is too slow and sometimes it can get boring), a good cast, a focus on the firemen, on their duties, on the dangers they confront. More generally it can possibly be interpreted as a tribute to firemen and policemen, which is good. Sometimes however, you will get confused as the past and persent are entwined.
