Wonderfully funny entertaining film!, Mar 10 2008
Took a chance on this one. A little gem. It features Chinese men in the roles, but the situations and human foibles apply to all! It was wonderfully witty and funny. I liked the characters (think I know some just like them), liked the wit and the humour. I miss wit and humour in the garbage Hollywood puts out. Guess they need to find some literate writers. This flick was fresh, and fun. I laughed out loud - a good sign for a comedy.

Preachy and Ranting most of the time . . ., Mar 10 2008
Okay - I'm in Canada and maybe that's a difference here. I have really tried (honest) to like this book and its characters. But after 16 chapters I'm still cold and really don't care - nor like - the main heroes of this story. I use 'story' loosely, as so far, the CI hero has done nothing but rant on and on and on and preach without end, about the Gay condition in Ohio, or was it Indiana, or whatever. These are old issues - here and in other civilized nations in the West. You and your boyfriend can get married here! I'm sorry if the situation is as bad as the author yells about, but I wasn't looking to become involved in Gay political activism in some backwoods American state. And yelling in my face about it does not improve my interest in the storyline (do I remember one?). I'm not sure what to make of the body-beautiful, drop-dead gorgeous hero, who is so gorgeous, all genders want some "quality" time with him, and he's the smartest of the smart, the bravest of the brave, the most caring of the caring . . . I can't take it. And his policeman 'partner' in solving this crime is the straight version of the above! The characters just don't work for me, and the (so far to chapter 16) endless preaching and ranting ad-nauseum puts me right off. If it wasn't for Jeffrey Dahmer being real, I would'nt be buying into this serial killer stuff either. Don't disguise a political activist rant, for a who-done-it novel. I've thoroughly enjoyed other genuine books of this genre, especially the Russel Quant Mysteries. But this one will not find a place on my shelf for future re:reading.

An over-the-top, poorly written, sad effort, Feb 4 2008
A poor story (script), far far too long, over-the-top special effects that rival Star Trek I for killing what material was there and a 'happy ending' that came AFTER the credits! Anyone left in the theatre or still playing the dvd long enough to even see this scene?? What were they thinking? The delicous villain Lord Beckett completely changes character at the end - did they run out of money to finish the film and needed to wrap it up in a hurry? And when did this entertaining, light hearted pirate movie a la Errol Flynn become a long and boring Soap Opera with too many special effects? They needed a writers strike to save this project! There were shades in Pirates 2 that hinted that the third would be this dark. But what a disappointing end to the trilogy. Once again, Hollywood over does it for the final installment. Save your money, and watch the first one over and over - it at least, had the formula right and didn't take itself too seriously. Whoever wrote this drivel, completely lost sight of what the 'magic' was. For Shame.

A Winner! Again!, Jan 15 2008
Okay - I'm hooked. This, along with the other Russel Quant novels, are thoroughly entertaining, wonderfully witty and funny, and totally engrossing! If he can write them as fast as I read them, I'll be a happy reader! Highly recommended. Anyone making a movie of these wonderful adventures?

Gawd Awful American Garbage, Jan 15 2008
No historical accuracy here - fictionalized everything - the action and the tanks are the stars here. Lousy script, re:inventing history glorifying American military achievement - if you have to make it up you're in real trouble (guess so). Robert Shaw is good, Robert Ryan is awful. Overall, an insulting and offensive movie to those that were there - and to those who inflict this mess on themselves. Avoid it or go in aware of it's flaws.

Wonderfully Entertaining!, Dec 30 2007
I loved this book! It was my first read of Bidulka's work, and I immediately fell in love with the character(s), the wit, the laugh-out-loud bits and the mystery. Count me as a Big Fan!

thoroughly enjoyable!, Dec 12 2007
Okay - it's a coming-out in sports movie in Europe. Still well done, still well acted, different from the genre in enough ways to keep it entertaining and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it :)

a funny and thoroughly entertaining film!, Dec 12 2007
Some Spanish films are a bit 'over-the-top' for me, although I enjoy the freshness of them. This one is not over-the-top, but well written, very well acted with good quality production. The premise is new (to me anyway), and the common situation gone wrong scenario is full of funny and unexpected scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and highly recommend!

a nice surprise! In a wonderful feel-good quality production., Dec 12 2007
I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but I was very impressed! Not only with the production quality of the dvd, but the singing/dancing performances by the entire cast! It was funny, it was charming, it was a feel-good quality production. You get past the voyeuristic elements quickly, though it never goes away altogether, and laugh and enjoy the talent on-screen in truly wonderful performances. I enjoyed this far far more than I had thought I might. A nice surprise.
