12 yr. old field trip long drive, Mar 18 2004
OK ever think how am I going to entertain alot of kids on a long drive and keep the noise and fighting down! These old 50 movies work like a charm.. they all stare, theirs mouths hang open and they only snap out of it when it ends or you have a potty break. I traveled with 4 12 year olds on a school field trip to San Diego from Vegas, we watched "Them" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Neither movie had been viewed before by the group and they never made more then a peep! 4 boys! The parents didn't say anything... the movies are clean, there's no swearing nor skin flicks! PERFECT! We'll keep buying the oldies ... they're the goodies! Teaching Mother..

They've done it again, funer then Harry!, Oct 13 2003
I read this book in two reads, ok so it's suppose to be a children's series, that doesn't keep adults from reading Harry Potter, now does it. This is a fun quick series, I like that you could read them in a few doctors visits... heck take all the kids to the dentist and finish this great story while you wait! Not all classics and books worth reading need to be 3" thick! Alot of ground is covered and the imagination is delighted! Now if we could just get the authors to write faster and WHY is there only going to be two more books, boo-hoo! Waiting on #4 already! Excited Teacher!

Watch for this Author she's a Gem!, Aug 23 2003
This author was new to us and we will be looking for her from now on. The pictures are sooo wonderful they transport you. The information is well done and clear, yet not watered done. This is someone that REALLY understands writing books for children that adults can enjoy using as teachers or parents. I recently bought alot of books on Shakespeare, for use in the school room this year and we have found 4 authors that made the grade on this subject! This is a keeper!

Through, fun and a smart read!, Aug 23 2003
If you were only going to get 3 or 4 books about Shakespeare, this really should be the first! It is done in the DK style format (even if your not a big fan of this style this book makes a great exception to the rule)and the pages are covered with info and pictures. This is the first one of these readers level style that was meaty and entertaining. Well, Well done!

Book of the Year!!! I'd give it 10 stars.., Aug 23 2003
This is one of those series that is so well done you can't imagaine EVERYONE not knowing about it! Have you always been a bit out of the loop or intimidated about Shakespear? Or are you good with it but don't know how to show/share that love with your family and students. This series will do it!! It's good for ALL ages, my middle school students found it fun and informative yet... really young (4ish) children could learn from it too. Save your self the upgrade and buy it in hardback, this will be one that you keep for generations and get the "WHOLE" series, each one is just as good as the other!

get to the nitty gritty....., July 30 2003
I bought this book Dirt and also Sand by the same publisher. I now wish I would have gotten both copies in hardback. I nearly never feel that way because of the price difference. We buy alot of books! This is one I can use now with my middle schoolers, use later and use with Grandchildren some day. The pictures are vibranant and well laid out. The information is pertenient, and well placed and it is FUN to read! Pre-school through early High School could appreciate this book, understand it, and find it useful. Anyone who needs to understand our soil would do well with both these books. They cover different material so neither would be a repeat. National Geographic, as always did a great job. Excited Teacher in Nevada!

Shes did it again! Another winner!, May 20 2003
I review curriculum all the time, sometimes for schooling other times for co-op's and group activities. For many of us on the adventure in home schooling we use her "Well Trained Mind" as a bible in the instruction of our daily life. This is a keeper! When we started we used "A World of Learning Adventure" because too many of use needed a more scripted aproach to be able and do "The Well Trained Mind". She heard our pleas and the result was a wonderful story! Don't pass up the activity book that goes with this brilliant master piece, your child will live for the activities. Even if your not a home schooler, what a bedtime story book this could be for you and your child to share the learning together! I'd say 4 year olds to teens could enjoy this as an out loud read together. Want to "KNOW" that your child is getting a good education even if "YOU" can't afford to home school or pay for private! Here's a good start! On with the Adventure!

Something every kid can relate too!, May 1 2003
This book is in the same style that so many children of this generation are already use too, it's very DK or Osborne like. There is, to the point information, a picture or two on every page, yet it is detailed enough even for a good reader while not turning away delayed readers. The bit size paragraphs are far less intimidating then in other styles of books. Perhaps that's why DK and Osborne sell so many books. There is a make and take type project on nearly everyother page, great for the hands on learners. Instructions simple enough for people that don't like instructions, (with pictures) of what it's suppose to look like. The supplies are things easily found around a house. My children are excited, that it's not just a book to read! But also one to do! We will look for more books by this author is this style. I'd say you need to be at least 8 or 9, to do this however children as old as 15 would find this a cool book! Especially if they love cameras, or want to learn about them. Cheapest books for this much material I've seen in awhile! Way to GO!

Simple yet effective, May 1 2003
This is a simple book, perhaps to simple for my 11 and 13 year old. However it's also a one of a kind. We are building a house this year, our first and the boys really wanted to know what was going on without me turning it into another school lesson. This book does just that each frame (simular to comic book style but larger) is one process of the home as is goes up. It is to the point and doesn't waste paper getting through the steps. Simple but effective. Any child wanting to understand "what's next" but not wanting an engineering lesson would appreciate this book. I do think even a 4 year old, that has it read to them could understand it.
