This book was tough for me to take. It is packed full of profanity and vulgarity. I have never read a novel that used the F-word so often. I don't question the authenticity of the descriptions- I'm sure they mirror real life for many people. Unfortunately I found very little humour in such a tragic way of life. When I try to get past the darkness of the storyline I do think Shilling wrote very well. In fact I think I would enjoy a less raunchy novel by this author. I found Rock Bottom depressing with very few redeeming qualities.

enjoyable, Dec 23 2008
I really enjoyed this sweet historical romance. I found the storyline to be engaging and the main characters were delightful. I tend to find the requisite "conversion" scenes in Christian romances to be a tad overdone but Burkhard did a good job of keeping this one rather less annoying than some. I found Burkhard's descriptive scenes easy to imagine and I felt drawn into the story. This is an easy read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good Christian romance.

lovely book, Dec 15 2008
My Little Girl is an adorable book about a daddy-daughter day. It is a wonderful example of how important it is to spend time with our children! The illustrations are beautiful. I loved the easy going writing style. I have read this book dozens of times to my three children since I got it two weeks ago. My 2 year old daughter likes to point out the daddy on the page and then points to HER daddy and smiles. It is very cute. Even my sons have listened to the story several times. I found this to be a delightful children's story that would make a wonderful addition to any home library. It would also make a lovely Christmas gift from Daddy to his little girl!

fun book, Dec 15 2008
Honestly I loved this book. I really enjoyed Orion's writing style which is packed full of sarcasm and wit. I found the storyline fun and easy to engage in. The descriptions of the couple's adventures are wonderful and make it easy to imagine. There were a few swear words but nothing too horrendous. I felt a certain kinship to the main character who so loved lounging in her pj's and staying home but found herself completely out of her comfort zone! I often found myself smiling and giggling while reading Queen of the Road. This is a great book that I would recommend to anyone!

Living with Integrity, Nov 4 2008
I suspect that most of us would agree with the assertion that integrity is one thing our world needs a LOT more of these days. Dean Kilmer, in his book Igniting the Moral Courage of America, gives us six simple steps to living with integrity. Kilmer discusses the historical decline of moral integrity in America and how our own thinking has played a major role in allowing the decline to happen. He explains what exactly integrity is and steps we can take to live our own lives with integrity. He encourages us to take a in depth look at some of the issues eroding the family and how we can build integrity and fidelity back into the homes of America. The author also talks about fear and how we need to demonstrate courage in our quest to positively change to future. He stresses the need to reclaim our education system and build a foundation of truth in our lives. In the end the only way this can be done is through God's power in and through us! Kilmer follows each chapter with a discussion guide which would make it a good choice for a Sunday school class or small group study. I appreciated his use of personal illustrations and found the book easy to read and follow. Dean Kilmer is employed as a pastor and the book feels like an engaging series of sermons.

Wonderful book, Nov 4 2008
I think The Shack is a beautiful book. Honestly I just can't understand why there is any controversy over it at all. Personally I enjoyed Young's writing style and I think he did an excellent job of portraying a deeply emotional story. I quite literally laughed and cried throughout different parts of the book. Theologically speaking I found The Shack to be spot-on. The book deals with intense spiritual truths and expresses them in a way that anyone can understand. I really think The Shack contains a much needed message for our world today and I didn't find a single thing to disagree with.

Great Teaching Tool, Nov 4 2008
I received a copy of Queen Vernita's Visitors by Dawn Menge and Bobbi Switzer in the mail this week and I wanted to tell you all what a delightful book it is! Queen Vernita invites twelve wonderful friends to visit with her during each month of the year. Queen Vernita and her friends enjoy fun activities throughout the Oceaneers Kingdom. This book is an excellent way to teach the monthly calendar, seasons and days of the week. This book would be an excellent addition to your home or school library!

Great Devotional Book!, Nov 4 2008
I really enjoyed this book! I love the Psalms and I think Patterson does an excellent job of reminding us how beautiful the Psalms are and how much they reflect human emotion. It is easy to read and follow. The chapters are short tackling one psalm each. This is an excellent devotional book and would make a lovely Christmas gift too!

Illuminating!, Nov 4 2008
I have been blessed in my life to be able to read the Bible several times over in several different translations and you know what? It's a great book. If you haven't read it you should give it a try! There is a reason it is the most popular book in the world you know :) This month I was given the amazing opportunity to preview a new Bible version- Bible Illuminated. Honestly I think it is easily the most incredible version I have EVER seen. The photos are incredible- just looking at them gave me VERY strong emotions and then to have them paired with the Word of God was just intense. It truly had me captivated.

wow, Nov 4 2008
Wow. This book is amazing. The pictures are incredibly breathtaking! Even my almost-2-year-old daughter Olivia was captivated by the photos! The book itself is super high quality and would be a delightful coffee table book or Christmas gift for the difficult-to-buy for folks on your list. I am truly impressed by Alpine Americas :)
